What Is A Bleep Test & Does It Work? | GTN Does Science

Спорт

The Bleep test is used by organisations around the world, including schools, the military, the police, and other groups interested in testing physical fitness. The main advantage of a Bleep Test is that it can be done by lots of people at once. But what is it, and is it reliable? We put our presenters to the test!

You guys did do the test on wet grass, that probably hurt the estimated VO2-max quite a bit. Asphalt, track or indoor concrete is usually a better surface for this test.

Great tips honestly. There is also an e book called Mastering the 20m beep test which helped me significantly. There is a 7 week workout plan to help you prepare for the beep test. I've recommended 'Mastering the 20m Beep Test' to all my friends who are prepping for fitness assessments. The workout plan is tough but effective-I've never felt more prepared!

Do you think the surface played any part? If the ground is absorbing energy more than the treadmill then it might explain some of the consistent deviation among the 3 participants

It would be great if the three of you tried the Polar Global Fitness Test. You wear the H10 strap and lay back for 5m. It takes RHR as well as HRV and some other metrics into equation. Since you already know your V02 Max, it'd be great to see just how accurate or innacurate the Polar test is. The number given is supposed to be equal to your V02 Max.

VO2Max needs to be combined with Running Economy (RE) to quantify running performance as VO2Max is like how much fuel you can use per unit body weight but RE accounts for how your muscle fiber composition, running form etc. use that fuel, ie a high VO2Max alone could well be like a gas guzzling SUV, not necessarily faster or more enduring.

It's good thing that juggling is not on the Australian Special Forces Test. James would have washed out. On a more serious note, ya'll bring up a very good point. As triathletes, we spend nearly 100% of our time doing sagittal motions. It would probably be useful, and help our overall fitness, in both life and triathlon, if we were to substitute some of that straight line running and swimming for the occasional diversion into soccer, tennis, or some other sports that forces us to move laterally a lot. That is a good experiment. For a couple of months, switch out a tempo run for 90 minutes of soccer, playing as a midfielder, not as the keeper.

It might be a good test if people are motivated. However when I was 14 years old we had a bleep test in school and most people couldn't be bothered to try hard. I had had a serious neck injury 6 months before hand including spinal surgery and for the 6 months before this bleep test I wasn't allowed to do any exercise at all, without any exceptions the bleep test was the very first exercise in 6 months. I was joint 1st in my class of 30 children, which could not be an accurate result because all the other kids would go out and play football at lunch and I wasn't allowed to do that with my neck injury. So in schools it's a complete waste of time, because the kids just can't be bothered to push themselves.

This is really interesting. I think the assumption is often that anything outside the lab isn't reliable but I don't think that's always true. I know that Garmin's V02 max estimate has been found to be within 95% of lab-based results.

Beep test? The Cooper test? I mean the guy's old, but he is still around and should still have his name connected to his work. Right? I mean I wouldn't say The Christmas Story About Ghosts and Scrooge, but would reference the developer (author in this case). Dickens.
