On Christmas Day 1914, the Western Front briefly went silent. Men put down their guns and met their enemy in No Man's Land. They sang carols, gave gifts, and came together as young men in a similar situation. The war was supposed to be over by Christmas. And it didnt. But what if in an alternate timeline it did. And what would that even entail for such a thing to happen?

@@alofii6106 Be careful what you wish for. Just because something looks immediately better, doesn't mean the long term is better. As mentioned in the video, we wouldn't have had the nazis and huge loss of life due to two huge world wars but also we'd see colonialism and national pride to a huge extent and thats not including other things that would also be affected. World trade, the longest peacetimes we have seen (of course, wars still happen but you don't have to wake up expecting an air raid in most european cities), huge leaps in technology and learning is stuff we wouldn't have experienced without such a catasrophy occurring. So pick the lesser evil, no immediate evils but very slow if any progress, or evil and then huge changes to everything

They would be novels first [or short stories, like that “gift of the magi“ story, Where the girl sells her hair to buy a chain for a watch he sold to buy combs for her hey.]. I’ll tell you one thing for free. History [or at the very least, Christian history] may forever use this as an excuse not to turn the “politically incorrect“ blessings of Christmas time into a generic “happy holidays“. Christmas would become the single holiday that ended in the entire war becoming white peace, or stalemate. You can’t get rid of a holiday like that after it’s done so much for the world, can you?

Lets have a FOURTH alternative. In this reality, the Christmas Miracle does not occur in 1914. Instead it occurs in 1915. There are diaries and accounts of Generals giving orders in 1915 specifically to counter the chance of another 1914 miracle. And there were still troops who, while they did not cross into no-man's land, did observer their own "cease fire" for the day despite the orders. As you say 1914 was too early for such a miracle as nationalism and feelings were still high. But after one year of fighting in trenches and mud and water and seeing their comrades die, the troops were more ripe in 1915 for a more general mutiny like the Russians in 1917. In this scenario, localized miracles start to rapidly spread up and down the trenches due to how interconnected they are. Eventually the generals hear of this and try to issue orders to get back in the damn trenches. But the troops having suffered for over a year basically say screw you. Oh sure some gung ho officers start spouting orders and shouting .. and a few have "accidents" at that point as the disobedience spreads. Diplomats finally hearing of this jump on the opportunity to propose to their governments and extension of the ceasefire. Lets talk they say no need to keep fighting we have a chance. And the politicians listen and order the Generals to stand down and issue a general ceasefire until the new year. Sure this all spins on the need of both groups on the western side seeing this chance. But as mentioned diplomats were always working behind the scenes to pressure the military and governments for peace. Heck after a year of two front warfare the German generals might even agree to a chance to have breather as they can see they are not winning, and if they can get a western truce then they can focus on Russia. After that it all starts heading down a similar path as this video except maybe some changes. The Western nations MIGHT bring in Russia to the talks, or they could decide those backward fools (they were not well perceived in the West) can suffer their own fate for declaring war over Serbia to begin with and escalating the whole mess. But a 1915 Miracle might have worked.

Especially when you look at a war like World War 1. Unlike WW2 which had moral reasons to it. WW1 was literally just Empire's being jealous of each other and wanting to best each other. The young soldiers at home could care less if the King or the Kaiser or the Emperor wanted a larger Empire on a map, they just wanted to move on with their lives. And sadly a lot of them never got to do so.

Well, either that or the 7 years War is the biggest event. Probable that if the French had won the 7 years War, instead of the British, with the French still being seen as a threat to the colonies and the Industrial Revolution happening in Britain, but to a less burgeoning extent due to not having India to supplement an explosion, the American colonies still would have wanted to stay under the British Crown due to perceived need for protection against the neighbouring French Colony, Britain would still reach parity with France again iin the next few decades, having gunboats after the Industrial Revolution, when the French wouldn't have them, To begin with, and then probably not even in the Medium-term either, as the monarrchy would be holding industrialisation back, as always happens with autocratic powers wanting to maintain the status quo.Lastly, there would be no Germany, with the French having maintained a strong military and hegemony of the continent, unlike the decline they had in the 19th century. It's probable that without the British winning the 7 years War and taxing the colonies, there wouldbe no USA or modern state of Germany. The brits and the french would be Dominating the world for the foreseeable future, probably for Centuries, with the aid of industrialisation

@@Rowlph8888 eh, i feel that the 7 years war was always going to be a british victory. WW1 on the otherhand was a time when the concept of a superpower did not exist. It was just lots of middle powers with colonies they were extracting resources from. If that ideal died earlier (perhaps a more aggressive US and japan alliance to take asia for themselves, forcing a proper EU where national identity was lost) the superpowers of today would have been locked on totally different continents with no real method of landing troops en masse in any real proximity to each other. Would have probably been something more akin to the naval battles of the spanish vs the british with heavily fortified static defences in the middle east, balkans and russia.

"That any concession given was failure." Y'know, I was finally reading "WorldWar" by Turtledove, and this reminds me of the summerization between the alien invasion and the human diplomats.
