If you exclude the last 2 centuries of Ottomans, they had pretty high literacy than European powers.Educated ones are the people of palace, devshirmes, and harem. Intelligent ones among the devshirmes attend a speacial school. So according to their skills and interests, they become Pashas, Architechs, engineers, governors and ministers. They were not Turks mostly. They were Christian boys collected from their families. Most became Janissaries and the rest become intellectuals and ruling class.

@@Man_740 i dont think nuking people is never that easy especially for russia considering they had multiple occasions to use them even in soviet times but they simply couldnt. Because russia cant survive more than 2 nukes itself meanwhile most of the big ottoman cities arent even in the range of russian missiles and former ottoman empire covers both israel and turkey who were given nuclear weapons by usa for them to be able to response to any nuclear attacks from soviets. Also we "assume" the old soviet arsenal are fanctional but in really only on paper just like old soviet tanks and planes russia has. Russia is just a massive but weak at the same time. Its military history is full of failures.

I think they'd have a much larger economy, since the land they occupy is rich with pretty much any materials and resources, and they could exploit them without worrying about outside interference.

trihardFTW This would rally European powers like Spain and France together. However France would back down because of the English threat. The H.R.E was a clusterfuck and so everyone would exploit that too. The reformation would most likely happen earlier with the illusion that God would let the papacy down. Spain and Portugal would invest more money into a war with the Ottomans and so there would be less supplies for expeditions. So the Americas would be explored later on but this time maybe the Brits Land there first in New Foundland and Labrador

Erwin Rommel I did not say that the Ottomans supported the reformation when Mehmet II was the ruler. It was in Sultan Suleyman's time. Also, I did not mentoin anything about the consequences of sieging Moskva. It was just Mehmet II's idea. Also, Turks are used to the cold weather, since their origin is Central Asia. Crimean Khanate was a Turkic nation under Ottoman control aswell. It's obvious that they would use the tactics that fit the climate.

What if the German Empire (of 1914) reunited? I find it really interesting due to it being relatively possible, given the differences in politics in places like Poland, the lands that were German have a massively different (and less nationalistic) political preference from the rest of Poland. It almost completely matches the old borders. Would probably lead to a terrifyingly powerful Germany, so powerful it could even more blatantly control the European Union.

It's only possible if the total removal of American power happened in north Africa and the middle east which is likely. Turks will make massive gains, though their empire will be significantly smaller than it was back in the day. They will have to deal with French west & north Africa and Iran from the east and possibly Russia from the north if Russia plays its cards right

To be honest, this neo-Ottoman Empire would be more of a liability than an asset to the Turks. First, these regions (Balkans, Anatolia, Middle East) are historically unstable for multinational states, even today Turks still face a kurdish problem despite owning a Nation State where they make up the majority of the population, can't imagine problems Turks would face in this multinational empire. Also, Turks would become a minority, Arabs being a majority in this empire, and religious Arab mindset isn't compatible with secular nationalist Turkish mindset, Turkish way of life would be threathened by Arab conservatism. Additionally, Turks would have to maintain lots of poorer regions and populations than themselves, taking money out of Turkish hands. In my opinion, working on the modern Turkish Republic, and reinstalling Ataturk's ideas would be a better option for Turks than forming an unstable empire which would be a liability. Turkey has a massive geopolitical advantage with its vast water/agricultural resources, huge renewable energy potential (especially geothermal), and geographical location (center of trade routes and energy pipelines). If Turkey begins combating terrorism in more efficient ways to end it, capitalizes on these potentials via right policies, and boosts tourism once again in a safer environment, Turkey can become a very prosperous, rich, and powerful nation. The Turkish military is already one of the strongest with its modern equipment, high discipline/motivation, and NATO ties. All that Turkey needs is to get rid of political islamism, end terrorism inside its borders, and start implementing right policies.

Nationalist Talk You wrote a really logical article sir. I will guess that you are Turk, considering your knowledge about the region. All you have said was logical and possible. But the only thing that Turkey needs to get rid of is Erdogan, and extrimist religous personales like him. Despite the fact that Turkey has so much arable land and aproppriate background to raise their own food, the government made Turkey to be a dependent state in all of the branches except military( actually you can consider Turkey as an dependent in military too, as they buy the war equipments from other states too.) If the government had incentivized people to establish their own business, and encouraged farmers to produce more, things would have gone much more different than today.

Greetings from Turkey! Well, I completely agree with what you both wrote. There is an imminent economical crisis im Turkey, which started as the decreasing value of Turkish lira. And anytime soon, I'm afraid that the economy will crash hard. Too bad. The problem is not that Turkey is not capable of producing goods, but is that the government is selling all factories to western/eastern firms. It hasn't been a long time since our sugar factories are sold. They just told "If we close these factories, less people will have diabetes." As a person somewhat 'aware' of what is going on, this is illogical. I see no point... So what I am trying to say is: Before starting anything new, Turkey should focus on economy. Otherwise I see no future in Turkey. With this mindset and political leaders, a second Independence War cannot be won, in any condition
