Skeksa- a pirate Queen with a not so merry band of skeksis trading and plundering goods from gelfing and location hopping as she saw fit. Skekli-trope master the skeksis becoming nomadic tricksters using their vague supernatural prowess and secret wisdoms to entertain and exploit gelfings with a multitude of smaller deals than the alliance of the crystal.

I agree. I believe that SkekTek would’ve been the best emperor of all the choices. SkekTek would’ve done what this video says, and he most likely would have repaired his relationship with Aughra.

In the books it says that many of his experiments serve no scientific purpose, there just another form of sadism. That aside I think it's true that he would elevate those who were able to aid in his research. I can picture teams of Gelfling mad scientists doing terrible things to Podlings.

Every skekis when they become emperor: Gelflings would be stronger, smarter, better educated. SkekLach: Guess I will die.

If SkekTek had become emperor, his curiosity would eventually turn to madness. With no one to contain him, every living thing on Thra would become nothing more than specimens to be experimented on. Eventually all pretense of knowledge or discovery would be lost. Like a sadistic Nazi doctor, the motivations of his endeavors would devolve from how much he could learn, to how much pain and suffering he could inflict, and how much pleasure he could derive from it. In the end even his fellow Skeksis would find their way into his cages, and eventually onto his operating table.

I think something similar might happen with Ske-Ok. Maybe his manipulations of history might sew conflict and hatred among the people of Thra. The only Skeksis whose rule wouldn't devolve into slaughter and ruin would likely be the Heretic, and he'd likely be killed 99% of the times in each scenario before he could achieve his goals

The Chamberlain was the most *fit* individual for this position not only he would successfully keep many servile subservient races under the skeksis command but he also efficiently manipulated them including the gelflings and even the podlings! Unfortunately skeksis empire has no value for merit as we seen in the case of poor scientist

If SkekZok had become the new emperor instead of SkekUng in the film, he would've been the scariest yet most effective ruler. In the presenting Kira scene he strongly advocates for killing her immediately which would've been much smarter for them.

I think if skekli was emperor he would have the other skeksis be a traveling circus

Kinda sad that Skekmal is left out because I csn imagine what he might do if under complete leadership of the Skeksis Empire if it even becomes one. My speculation is that Skekmal would rule with a mindset of “only the strong shall thrive”. He would lead less like an emperor and more like a mighty chieftan or a warlord but not to the same extent as Skekvar or Skekgra. Hunting and living off the land would be highly encouraged by him and I can imagine he would have even have gladiatorial events which he himself would participate in. Life under Skelmal’s rule would be very tribal and barbaric compared to the others he’d be hands off on greater politics if he even allows such nonsense to even exist. Either way Thra would might not be in such a bad state compared to Skekso’s rule but it would very likely be in an age of chaos and bloodshed...

I don’t know if I agree skektek. While science-oriented, he was still extremely sadistic and cruel. He would have devoted more resources to his experiments, but he would be just as selfish and cruel as any other skeksis. He would have still created an army of some sort comparable to the gartham, but they would have been loyal to him alone. He may have settled some grudges with some of the other skeksis (a few skeksis like the general and skekso may have even been killed), ruling the remaining through fear. Prior to resistance, he may have even experimented secretly on podlings and gelflings, a few guards or servants would go missing on occasion. I think all except the heretic where ultimately evil and heartless (skeksis are not really a race in their own right but are the evil, darker impulses of the urskeks).

I disagree with certain things. Yes he is sadistic but most of it is because he is belittled and abused, and since he can't do anything to the other skeksis, he takes it out on everything else, excluding sidtic. Although yes he is sadistic by nature as are all skeksis, he would just be less. He might be more paranoid because of others threatening his rule. He would be a quite hands on ruler, looking to prove himself to others as a good leader and because he is literally the most useful skeksis. He is the blacksmith, medic, and scientist of the skeksis.

Honestly he could've become Emperor when he first created the Garthim, simply by adding the directive that they were ultimately loyal only to him. If he took a page out of the Chamberlain's book, he could have used the Garthim to overthrow the Emperor once he had made enough to outnumber them. It would've been all too easy for him, too; the Skeksis, so preoccupied with the Gelfling threat, would never dream of the day that their Scientist, whom they abused for so long, would eventually best them all. He could probably get other Skeksis in on this coup, too; skekShod would be more than willing to depose skekSo, and skekSil could be persuaded with promises of power. I don't believe skekTek would have any actual interest in ruling, so an arrangement could be made where skekTek is Emperor by name, but skekSil is the one managing the Empire. This way, they both get what they want; the Scientist is recognized for his genius and can continue his experiments unhindered, and the Chamberlain attains basically the highest position of power he can get, managing the entire Skeksis Empire and second only to skekTek and his Garthim. skekShod... I'm not sure what else he'd get other than pure revenge. Maybe gifts from the Scientist or something. Who knows? I predict that a few Skeksis may die - skekSo and skekVar specifically - in order to eliminate the possibility of rebellion. That's a sacrifice skekTek would willing to make. And it's a bit of karma for all those years of abuse.

I don't know about Skek Var being a genocidal warlord, or dismissing the Gelflings. We see in both the comics and the first episode that initially Skek Var not only desired to have Gelfling warriors under his command, as he tried to get Ordon to join the guard, but he also valued the soldiers under his command, as he was initially outraged by the Scientist draining Mira. If anything he might instead corrupt the Gelflings into a warrior martial culture to subjugate Thra militarily. Now, an interesting idea might be if Skek-Sa somehow became leader. She has ambition and leadership skills, and is rather cunning and manipulative, while still valuing her Gelfling servants for the most part. She'd likely build a maritime Empire, and have a trusted Skeksis ally like the Ritual Master act as her second in the castle, while she travelled Thra enforcing her rule and expanding their borders.

I choose skekGra, the Heretic, formerly known as the Conqueror.

My favorite Skeksis is Skekshod. He’s very interesting and always makes me wonder what would he be like if he was normal. I said normal none of them are normal. His clothing is beautiful and how he acts has always interest me . He is also a lot like me. I mean that might not be a good thing but in my opinion skekshod is the best.

Great video! I personally think SkekSil and SkekTek would be great emperors. The Chamberlain being very smart and probably tactical when it comes to the affairs. Cuz you got to realize he did have the idea to farm gelfing rather kill them all. Also most other Skeksis are for brute force. The scientist on the other hand I theorize that the land of Thra would be a little bit more advanced when it comes to technology. Because to be honest SkekTeks technological advances were only to fit SkekSos agenda. But if it was the scientists agenda but most likely see a different Thra then we know today. And theoretically not saying it's realistic but if the hunter did become emperor life for other skeksis would be the most different being probably all forced to join the hunt. Cuz after all the only thing that matters is the hunt. Lol

What about a video theorizing about what would happen if different skeksis were banished / left the castle? Why did they leave/get banished? What did they do after? Would it have any lasting effects? Not necessarily in place of anyone (example SkekAyuk leaving the castle instead of SkekMal) but just if they themselves had their own story. You can do this for anyone, even SkekSo I know you might not take requests but this can just double as a comments only discussion

I think that most of the physically weaker Skelsis' would have been overthrown by the stronger ones. If Skektec got to be the emperor, he'd have been pulled down by SkekSil or Skekung. They were the darker halves of the same being, and a part of that type of darker nature always tries to dominate or stand over others. The physically weaker Skelsis' would only have been able to take control if the stronger ones were dead.

I imagine if skektek became emperor he would have made Garthim before hand and used them as a physical means to maintain authority or something similar to garthim.chamberlain could’ve had to have earned the trust of some of the stronger skeksis before hand to ensure the rest never tried anything, which isn’t impossible given how he got skekvars trust and skekmals respect.

Skekso was physically weaker, but had the strongest will and mindset.

SkekShod and SkekOk’s empires interest me the most, with Shod’s becoming a sort of merchant republic, or at very least a very capitalist monarchy, with money making being valued above all, and SkekOk would almost become a “Philosopher King” something I saw when learning about the old Greek world, being a wise leader with a respect for learning over warmongering, but still maintaining an absolute rule

Skeksil, Skekekt, Skekok, and Skeksa are my favorites and If they rule it would be so wonderful

Skektec is my favourite skeksis because he has such an interesting story, also you got to to admit that robotic eye does look cool, but excluding the reason why he got it, which is another reason I like him because he’s also sympathetic, in fact if think about the only reason he’s so cruel is because the other skeksis shun him which brings us back to the robotic which although cool is more disturbing when you learn about how he got it, so really behind the disturbing and monstrous shell is actually a very kind creature who has just been shunned by others not to mention his relationship with Augra and his interest in creatures, I mean in the third or fourth episode of age of resistance the emperor literally chokes one of his creatures in which he is horrified and struggles on finding a number for how many gelphling he needs to give the crystal essence again and immediately tends to his creature right after the emperor leaves tending to it so you can actually feel for this guy very much because he’s actually just mistreated and just needs some caring, I think it makes perfect sense that he be the greatest, he really is just a nice character who needs caring and nothing not to mention he actually cares for others such as Augra and his creatures too, that is why he is my favourite skeksis and possibly of all the dark crystal!

This is indeed an intriguing idea! While he would never have a taste for the political arena, I feel that Skekmal the Hunter would simply over power Skekso and take over. Maybe if he was Emperor, Skekmal would be personally leading war campaigns, making Skekgra look like a push over. That would be my reasoning, either him or Skekna would make a great Emperor.

I'd say that SkekTek would've made a better Emperor because he was the voice of reason most of the time. At the moment, not likely unfortunately. But there seems to be a resurgence happening, so as long as we stay vocal about it, Netflix eventually has to bring it back. They can't deny the rapidly growing fanbase for long.

I have to say skekTek is my favorite of the skeksis. Of all of them I like the idea of skekTek or skekOk being the best fit, but skekShod close behind them.

Either the Ritual Master or Chamberlain would be a good fit I would think.

If either skekli, skeksa, or skekmal were emporer Skekli: gelfling would serve as actors or actresses, and podlings would serve as stage hands of the castle and would give books or art works as a tithe. Skekmal: Before he left the castle: he wouldve killed the original emperor and the others, and tithes would be skulls of animals or executed warriors, and the alliance of the crystal and the clans would be disbanded and united into one clan or empire, focused on domination, hunting, and blood bathes. After returning with augra essence: he would kill not only the gelfing and podling, but also his kind. Skeksa: the skeksis rule wouldnt only be on land, but also within the oceans.

If skekmal the Hunter was emperor it would be chaotic

SkekSo was never ment to be emperor! He turned the other Skeksis away from their master while I was away, tending to MY crystal: The Crystal of Deceit. SkekSo was Chancellor of the Castle before he proclaimed himself ruler!

While I agree that skekLi the Satirist and skekMal the Hunter had no chance of becoming Emperor, I disagree with your conclusion that skekSa the Mariner was out of the running. As we saw in the AoR tie-in comic that featured her, she was attempting to subvert skekSo's power by installing a Sifan All-Maudra that she controlled, which makes clear to me that she had always been an active contender for the throne, and kept her distance from the Castle to avoid discovery.

I would go with SkekGra the ‘Heretic’ post vision as Emperor was he would unite the Uru, Skekis, Podlings, and Gelfings in harmony and peace.

This was really interesting! You certainly know all of the characters very well Personally, I think SkekTek's was the most interesting... I almost want to contemplate the hypothetical of him as emperor in more detail

Personally, my favorites from the Skeksis you went over would be either skekOk or skekTek as emperors. The main reasons for my choices are that the political, economic and societal changes that would take place if either of these dudes took the throne seem to be the most ideal scenarios out of everything you've described. Becoming a world based more on science wouldn't be that bad of a future, although I do have to wonder how far the Gelfling would allow skekTek to go in regards to Gelfling Rights issues. The Gelfling may also take issue with all of the other creatures used in skekTek's experiments, so I could see activist groups forming and protesting if skekTek ended up going too far, which I think he eventually would. I also wonder if skekTek would come up with the idea to drain Gelfling in the first place if he were to give them more chances to excel in the subject he loves so much. Had he not been so abused by the other Skeksis, I could see skekTek having more compassion and being a little less clinically sadistic. As for skekOk, the big issue I would have with his rule is that he would maintain the racism that goes on between the clans. I would love it if Gelfling society valued academia more and that it eventually would become a huge basis on which their society was built on. That would be my kind of world, so long as Gelfling school wasn't a hotspot for vicious, cliquey, cruel childlings to hang out and torture Gelfling they see as too different, like human schools are irl. Danny, I just wanted to say that I like these what if videos you're putting out. This and fan fiction are about the closest we fans are going to get for new material to tide us over until something official happens with the franchise. I do have a few suggestions for video ideas, if you are open to them. One that is similar to this video is a what if the All-Maudra had been of a different clan, like All-Maudra Fara, or Argot and so on down the line. How that might have changed the story. Another would be (and you know I'm a huge Tavra fan) what if Tavra had never gotten caught in the catacombs. I would think the war effort might be different, she'd be able to challenge Seladon for the throne and a lot of other changes could have happened. Plus, she wouldn't be a spider, so she'd end up being able to do more things. Those are just a couple of the what ifs I came up with. I've got more, should you ever run out of ideas. One last thing: can we get a confirmation that the YA novels are either definitely not canon, or an alternate timeline? There are just too many inconsistencies between the novels and the TV show, which most people believe to be the true canon (especially since people don't seem to like to read very much nowadays). As much as I want the books to be the true story, even though I love the show as well, it just doesn't make sense that they're canon. Clearly Tavra never went to Sog, because they meet in the Podling Tavern. The whole How Naia met Kylan thing could've happened offscreen, but a lot of other stuff couldn't take place and still line up with the show's canon. Plus, and I may have mentioned this before, the Bestiary is claimed by its creators to be the definitive guide to all of the creatures of Thra. Definitive is like, this book is all the creatures of Thra. There aren't any other ones, end of story. Most of the creatures mentioned in the YA novels are not in this book. Phegnese, Bell Birds, Bluemouth (although this one's more of a plant than a creature), Ruffnaw, Blindfish, Tortles, and Burrowing Noggies, just to name a few are absent from the Bestiary's pages. The YA novels just can't be canon, which means Naia, so far, doesn't possess healing powers, nor can she dreamfast with creatures other than Gelfling, Kylan is literally just the scaredy-cat broth guy who's totally inept in weaponry (although he still has the best line in the show and his singing is still impeccable), Gurjin is...awesome, compared to his book version, Rian got an upgrade too, but is still not my favorite, Deet is way more awesome, as is Brea, Tae doesn't exist, which sucks royal rakkida (for an awesome story about this unsung heroine, check out my AO3 story Meet me by the Seafarer's Lantern. She has her own 3 part story in chapters 4,5 and concluding with 6, which just came out), Periss, Erimon and Amri don't exist (such a travesty. Periss made me laugh and Amri is such a cool nerd) and there is no established relationship between Tavra and Onica (and don't anyone give me that bs 'oh, but Tavra mentioned Onica's name that one time in the series'). Nothing ever came of it, so I don't count it. It's like the YA novels were a template used for the show, and then the parts the creator's didn't like were tossed into the trash. I do understand about Amri though, that they started filming before I think either Songs or Tides came out, but seriously. I just need someone with a little authority (a.k.a the best Dark Crystal KZreadr) to confirm that they are not canon. Do a video explaining why, please. I promise, as soon as I get done with graduate school and secure a higher paying job I'll up my Patreon contribution if you do one. There's just so much evidence against those wonderful novels being real events in Thra's history. Personally, I like the idea that the movie is a different timeline than the series and the books are also a separate timeline. Maybe that's what Aughra sees when she looks at the different paths. I particularly like this because I just read the Power and Beneath comics and they sucked, in my opinion. That is not a good ending to such an amazing franchise. Last, but not least, I wanted to comment on Danny's wattpad story The Dark Crystal: Sifan Charms. I'm not a member of wattpad, so I can't leave comments on stories, so I thought I'd do it here. I love the story so far. I just finished reading the last chapter that was posted and I'm always left wanting more. His OC Athyra kind of reminds me of a female darker version of Seahawk from SheRa. Athyra's got a lot of interesting philosophies and views on life. The Dousan navigators are interesting and it's intriguing to see how Tavra reacts to Athyra vs. Onica. The only negative I've got is there are a few grammatical errors here and there, but those have gotten fewer as the chapters progress. I can't help myself but to mention those. There is a reason that the best birthday gift my sister and her husband could think to get me was a grammar police T-shirt. So don't take it personally, Danny. You're writing is good. I love it. I hate (in a good way) that you ended on such a cliffhanger with that last chapter. I want to know what happens next so badly. Keep doing what you're doing dude, you are helping provide new (if hypothetical) content to a fandom starved for more. I hope you're looking forward to the new Disney/Henson documentary on Jim and how the Muppets became famous. I can't wait for it. And I can't wait for a new chapter or video coming from you soon. Here's what I think the hunter will do as the emperor A tyrant,forcing his order over the others when he takes rule,imprisoning all the mystics to keep the skeksis alive, and instead of accepting tithes, would make (read as forced) the seven clans choose one gelfin to be given up to be hunted by skekmal,ordering the scientist create bigger and more powerful prey to hunt,and making the others remained naturally strong even when they grew old,slaughtering the weak,and publicly executing anyone who dares to rebel against his rule,keeping several prisoners to hunt in the castle every now and then when he gets bored

To be fair, SkekUng’s rule was short lived.

This also brings up another question, if skekSo wasn't Emperor while he was still alive, what WOULD his role have been?

Let's give skekAyuk more credit, I think what would happen is that skekAyuk would more than likely make it where there is high production in farming crops and domestication of many creatures on Thra and maybe even take a step further by having the clans create a mass breeding program for some of the species that are considered delicacies with the help of skekTek, the problem with that idea would be overpopulation of one species causing environmental issues. The solution? Send the hunter to do what he does best. Everyone will be fat and happy and will no long have to worry about starvation.

If SkekMal were emperor, I imagine Thra would be similar to the Hunger Games. Once every trine each Gelfling clan would choose their best warriors and send them into the forests of Thra to be “heroically” sacrificed to the Hunter. They would be brainwashed to see this slaughter as doing their duty by keeping their leader’s hunting skills sharp by giving him intelligent prey to kill.

I was thinking some of the ideas in this video would make great fan fiction. I think the chamberlains republic has the most potential , you could make a series with that one. The scientist would be great for some kind of science fiction horror story, an entire world turned into a prison laboratory. The gourmand would be great for a fall of Rome kind of story, in fact he kind of resembles some of the last emperors.

this does beg the question: What would SkekSo's role become if he were not emperor? How would he as a political figure influence and change the rule of these potential empires? Would his obsession with mortality lead him to becoming reclusive and paranoid, or would it lead to many more dark discoveries now his time was not consumed by leadership?

This is an interesting topic. I personally think out of all the choices, SkekTek would've been the best choice for emperor for the reasons this video explains. They're all interesting ideas, even those that aren't listed: SkekSa, SkekLi and SkekMal. A couple other interesting ones are SkekLach (the original one from the Monga which was a far better character), or SkekHak. I understand that SkeHak perished immediately after the Great Division, but if he'd lived and was indeed an architect, I'd love to see that. Also, I personally disagree that SkekLi would have no desire to be emperor. Quite the contrary, in fact. I think SkekLi could've (possibly) been a good and smart leader for the Skeksis. Along with being very good with performances and a good liar, SkekLi was intelligent and could really get stuff done, despite lacking much physical strength. Not too different from SkekSil the Chamberlain, actually.

SkekAyuk could totally take the throne, but only as the result of someone else's machinations. Perhaps SkekSil might realize that being emperor puts a target on your head, so rather than taking the throne himself he engineers the ascension of the most static and predictable of his siblings as a puppet ruler.

What if SkekSo survived until the crystal was healed?

What about SkekEert the spymaster? I know he may not be cannon anymore but he’s always been my favourite Skeksis.

I feel like the Chamberlain would probably be one of the better, but also one of the worst in a weird way. Just re-watched age of resistance and realized the emperor isn’t very cunning. Don’t get me wrong. He’s a great villain, and he’s a very powerful leader in his charismatic terror he inflates upon the others, but he makes a bunch of rash and ultimately pretty stupid decisions based upon his own fears and anxieties (to be fair. This is one of his defining characteristics.) whereas Chamberlain actually seems to think things through. One has to imagine that if Chamberlain is in charge, the Skeksi could’ve rained a lot longer and while life would probably be better in someways for the geldings another worries, it would probably be a dystopian nightmare. But ultimately his pride or ambition would probably eventually tear him down

The only Skeksis who might've actually been able to succeed as Emperor were skekSil, skekTek, and skekZok, whether before or after skekSo's death. SkekTek would never have happened due to his low status, and while skekSil was the best equipped for the position, his low popularity made it a hard bid. SkekZok would've been most likely to win the throne had he argued for it, due both to his authority as the religious leader and his general ability to get along with the other Skeksis, but for whatever reason, he decided against vouching for himself as Emperor. The reason these three would've been the only Skeksis capable of stopping the prophecy and ensuring Skeksis rule was because they were the only ones who could see past the immediate and plan for the long-term- they were the only Skeksis capable of resisting immediate pleasure and self-indulgence if they knew it was in their long-term best interest. For instance, skekSil and skekTek were the only ones who knew they needed to harvest essence at a sustainable rate, rather than harvesting it all at once, and skekZok argued for killing Kira immediately once they had her, yet skekUng dismissed him. (It should be noted that it was skekTek who convinced skekUng to harvest her essence first, but I think that's because skekTek had long abandoned the logic and rational thinking that can be seen in Age of Resistance.)

If SkekMal or one of the other wanderers were Emperor it would just be SkekSil as Emperor but occasionally the actual Emperor shows up and tells everybody what to do

I'll vote for SkekLi and SkekSa. Here's why: SkekLi would be a voice for the arts, yet still be quite the commander. Much more merriment in store for the Skeksis, then! Now SkekSa. There is a strong female leader for each of the Gelfling clans, and only the girl Gelfling have wings. Why can't there be a strong female leader for the Skeksis? She hated the way SkekSo ruled so much to where the mainland of Thra was just a speck on the horizon behind her. If she becomes the Empress, she'll finally get the chance to be what she was meant to be... the Captain. Long live performers and pirates!

You know what? Now that you point it out, before madness took him (which is what I think happened) The Scientist probably would have been the best ruler for a bright, harmonious future. Huh... Also, SkekEkt is canonically male, not female. The reason why he has a feminine voice is that 1. The puppeteer who controlled him was so good at acting, they decided to let her be the voice and 2. SkekEkt is written out to be flamboyant, consumed by "fashion" and, weirdly enough, sexually pervasive. The only female Skesis and Mystic were the Mariner and the Swimmer. I love your channel, but please triple-check your research. ; )

You have to understand, they have changed the character's pronouns non-stop since the shows release. First they were male, then female, and now currently "they." And realistically that's what they should all be. And skekLach is also female. I always do my research:)

In some sources they are referred to with male pronouns but in the show they use female pronouns they might just all be gender fluid tbh

Is Skekekt a female character?

I think the hunter could lead in a way. He seems to be obsessed with the hunt and sees little to no interest in wasting precious time discussing politics with no immediate benefits or consequences. As such, he would lead a tribal like faction of ruthless hunters. Disband the crystal group. And train all in the art of the hunt. For in his eyes, at least as far as I've seen in age of resistance, the only thing that matters is the thrill of the hunt of prey. And if he tried to rule, he would enforce a brutal kill or be killed society where the strong hunt the weak.
