I sent you a message on FB. I'm thinking about putting together a kind of roundtable chat podcast thing about DC lore and theories and would love to have both you and Jason involved.

Fun fact: in the original Dark Crystal movie, there was a cut scene where the Skeksis were holding a funeral for Emperor SkekSo. It had this epic organ music that many considered as the true theme of the Skeksis and was spoken in the original language of them. So I guess SkekZok did make the funeral ritual after all. Regardless, the Ritual Master was quite an evil character and if anything I'd expect him to be the next Emperor due to his regal robes. Great video!

It would've made a good scene but I knew it would mean cutting out Skekso's counterpart's body fading away and how Jen said he'd go but he barely understands. Even with that scene in it, it wouldn't flow right.

@@xxshinanaevangelianxx Which is why they cut it. I wondered why that scene was cut myself until I watched it and thought about where it would go, and realised it would block the transition from dying emperor collapsing to dying master fading away, which story wise and tonally was a lot better.

SkekZok was one of my favorites as a kid. Regal and pious but self-deluded to the core. I like how AOR expanded on his cruel and torturous side. When he killed Kira in the original: you can sense the great satisfaction he takes in believing he’s saved the skeksis....ooops. Thank you for the video!

My favorite Skeksis.

“A knife specifically for skinning SkekTek” I mean, I like SkekEkt and SkekOk as favorites, but poor SkekTek....

I have a theory if the ritual master was chosen to become the next emperor, his style of ruling would be similar to Pope Alexander the sixth - aka Rodrigo Borgia. Infamous for bribing the cardinals so he could become the next pope (not to mention a girlfriend and illegitimate children), and creating laws and approvals that would benefit him. Which exactly what the ritual master would do if he came into full power. I also wanted to point out that it’s easy to see that SkekZok represents the corruption of the church, a clear visual cleverly placed by Henson.

Ablutions are washing oneself. Also they can be a ceremonial act of washing parts of the body or sacred containers.THE ABLUTIONS in army slang a building or room containing washing facilities and toilets.

In the original movie at least, he had the most clear and "noble" sounding voice. Seems to fit his role well.

Amazing video. Out of all the skeksis the ritual master is my all time favorite, ever since I first saw the movie when I was a kid I was just so mesmerized by how the ritual Master looked and I thought he was the most interesting looking skeksis out of all of them... Even in age of resistance he was still my favorite, it's funny that everybody says the Chamberlain is their favorite but for me it's always been the ritual master

SkekZok is cool and all but SkekMal is just too badass imo. "You have heart... I'll take that, too!"

SkekZok is Vanity. He may have displayed some lust, but that’s not his main sin. There’s more towards vanity because Jim Henson explained him as a “Pompous Priest”. In The World Of The Dark Crystal Book, he thought of himself to be the greatest advisor to the Emperor firmly believing his advice was above all others which was not true. He was also very prideful when performing his Rituals proud to announce when he was going to invent new ones such as the Essence ritual. He was so proud to be alive that he never created a death ritual believing he could never be destroyed.

@@AnnaBellaChannel yeah we see him doing a ritual for the deceased emperor in a deleted scene from the movie. He enjoyed allowing the peeper beetle to tear out the scientist eye also laughing when emperor strikes him, and he turns on Seladon later even when he encouraged her when she turned on everyone and bowed to her as all Maudra obviously he wasn’t genuine about it.

The Chamberlin was my favorite of all, I always found The Ritual Master the most striking to look at. Beautiful, disgusting, glorious, horrifying.

My favourite Skeksis! I always found it quite intriguing how he deliberately avoided competing with skekUng and skekSil for the throne, so that he could find ways to subtly undermine skekUng's credibility from the sidelines. Plus, his sadistic punishments and temporarily fatal stabbing of Kira are certainly deserving of fear and infamy.

The Ritual Master in the movie always fascinated me but we knew so little about him much like the rest. This was very informative and pointed out points that even I didn't think too deeply about about the character, showing the depth of his character as well as the others you've made videos for of the Skeksis. Great job on this video.

Wait did I hear that he hides a knife to skin me? That scares me '._.

Yes they do. However, the voices of SkekTek, SkekAyuk and SkekOk were noticeably different.

he looks the most "skeksis" out of all the skeksis, his voice is also fitting. easily my favourite skeksis

This skeksis is definitely one of the best looking ones

Zok also holds a look similar to Sam the Eagle of the Muppets. I think he is handsome for a Skeksis, and had the most sky blue eyes.

To add a counter argument (Because I initially thought the same thing until I saw a different view) He may not have been licking his..."lips" because he was envisioning what he would be doing to the gelfling, but how tasty the gelfling's essence would be. It's an interesting view, but with how the lines are said, what he says, and the said gesture of licking his lips, Lust is hard to look past.

besides SkekVar, SkekZok is also one of my favorite Skeksis, even though in the movie, he shows little character, but in the age of resistance, he shows quite the character and even shows emotions at the opening. also, he says a good word "exemplary".

I wonder if I’m the only one who likes Dreamfast with Me’s videos before I even watch them 😂. I actually got to see the original Ritual Master puppet in November at the Museum of the Moving Image in New York, I was so excited, it was a dream come true! They also had an Age of Resistance display with the Hunter and so much more! So happy I was able to go!

He is the only one of Skeksis who is the most like his whole self. There was a deleted funeral scene in the Dark Crystal movie.

skekZok and skekUng stuck with me after I first watched the movie, I liked how they were so imposing and possessed such powerful voices but in different ways. Thanks for delving into this fantastic mad priest.

4:58 to 5:28 I never cease to be amazed at how beings can be so similar and yet polar opposites, especially given the connection between the UrRu and Skeksis. 5:48 to 6:00 Very true. The Skeksis fear two things above all else: death and returning to their true form as UrSkeks.

I do deeply appreciate SkekZok as a skesis because he does have moments where he can be civil like in the chamber of the all Maudra but one thing pointed out in a few of the videos that I also noticed about SkekSil that he never engaged in deadly punishment. He saved SkekTek’s life by suggesting the peeper beetle because as was pointed out: ‘Had a knife specifically to skin SkekTek.’ Had SkekSil not stepped in I believe SkekZok would’ve killed SkekTek.

SkekZok really had a bone to pick with the scientist. I guess he was jealous that skekTek's work was, ultimately, more valuable than his.

1:31 oh yeah i saw the deleted scene of the skeksis and urru's funeral and UrZah ask Jen to find Aughra and the crystal shard to begin his journey leaving the mystic valley.

Since reading Creation Myths, I wonder which UrSkek was it that became Dark Heart and caused the separation? Think you could do a video about that?

He was younger and had to take the violent General out of the castle. The general's only good idea in his long life was to run away and go back the castle. The Emperor knew that the both of them together was a violent and ruthless pairing.
