    The way I solved the glass surfing was by using black background paper, and filled the tank with plants and wood. Once I put up the black wallpaper, POOF.

    I love my Amazon Puffers! I actually just made a “how to” video of my procedure for trimming their teeth! I’ve had one of my puffers for a little over 3 years now and have had to trim 3 times now! I don’t mind it at all

    I am a few weeks in and they are still glass surfing, tried flow direction and black paper on the sides but no luck. Just going to wait it out now. They do stop every so often and to eat.

    I just bought three Amazon puffers today after weeks of research and two of them seem to be a little stressed doing the glass dance but I suppose they just need some time, right? Also I have to put frozen bloodworms right in front of them before they will eat it.. I havnt seen the two of them going around hunting yet like i see from the third and from my dwarf puffers

    The surfing will reduce but will never fully stop. Having a heavier flow in your tank sometimes helps too. If you put some live snails in the tank that can help spark their hunting. Other than that it just takes time, they’re weird fish

    I would put some live blood worms in. The puffers will find them in the sand. But I wouldn’t worry too much as long as you’re not away for too long

    I just got mine a few days ago. Hes just sitting on the bottom, not very active. He does not come to the surface to eat. He is still fat and looks good but he is just not doing much. Is he just nervous because of the environment change?

    They’re weird fish, the more you do the more that stresses them out. So if there is no obvious water quality issue, disease or stress from other fish etc just leave it

    I bought one, and I felt terrible. I observed him and I could tell there was a little more going on than a typical guppy or something. It's inquisitive.... But in my tank the poor little guy got anxious. Despite my best attempt to make a good home for him, it was heavily planted, stable, I'm not an amateur with fishkeeping... But I realized then that some fish aren't meant to be put in a tank. Mine did exactly what yours is doing. Swimming against the side of the tank obelsessively. I felt terrible. Here I was thinking I was a great fish keeper, but I realized I took this awesome creature and dropped it into a glass cage for my personal amusement, and it was miserable. .

    I have 3 Green Spotted Puffer fish. I have had one for 2 years 9 months (2.5 inches long, she was maybe 1inch when I bought her) The 2nd one for 1 year and 6 months (he’s 3.5 inches long, 3 inches when I bought him) and my third for 1 year ( Half an inch when I bough her, 2 inches now) . They say you should only have 2 in a 75 gallon tank but my 3 Green Spotted Puffers love each other. They sleep together. They don’t grow fast it all. My tank is over filtered. I have a 100 gallon Canister and 55 gallon Canister filter on my tank. I don’t have to do weekly water changes. I completely agree with you with leaving them alone. My tank has a bunch of caves for them to hide with no plants. They hate when I change up their tank. Just about everything you read online is wrong. Most of their puffers die with in the first month. The only way you learn how to take care of these puffers is to own them and know the basics. You will kill them. Don’t get discouraged or attached to your first puffers. It might take you 6 Green Spotted puffers or Amazon Puffers to learn. After you learn how to sport a healthy GSP or Amazon Puffer at the store you will fall in Love. I could tell my 3rd puffer was a healthy after watching her for 30 minutes. Yes it takes that long to know if a fish this intelligent is healthy or not. I saved her from getting sick from the other Green Spotted Puffers. Just keep trying if you kill them. These fish are so rewarding when you figure them out. As long as you over filter your tank and not use a bubbler on your tank you. You will succeed. One last thing. For the love of god don’t put Green Spotted puffers in a 30 Gallon tank. Amazon puffers you could but you still shouldn’t.

    Same but I just gave up. My first time having puffers, I bought 2 small figure eight puffers. When I bought them from the store, the store stated that they were fresh water fish but then they both died within two weeks because they needed brackish water. My third puffer was a green spotted puffer, I did more research on brackish water salinity and I kept it for only 4 months, it died because it got dropsy, it was just floating a lot and could not swim properly. My 4th puffer, I tried getting a fresh water puffer but non of my local fish stores had any, so I wanted to attempt the green spotted puffer again. This time I fed my puffer more of an verity of foods such as snails, claims, krill and shrimp. He lasted a bit longer but one day he started getting really sick. Like he would drop down on the sand a lot and just stay there, looking like he’s dead. I don’t really know how he got sick but I think it’s because my clams got bad and I didn’t know but still fed him it. I added a lot of aquarium salt in the tank as that was the only medication I had, but he was just rotting in my tank as time passes. He soon died and ever since I gave up on puffers. I moved on to basic goldfish and koi, and it’s going pretty well as I’ve had them for almost 3 years now. I went to my local fish shop lately and saw dwarf puffers and Amazon puffers. Finally I have access to fresh water puffers so it might be easier. But I still don’t know if I should get another as it might day a horrible death. Even my family doubts me when I get a puffer fish. As they say I will kill another. But I might get either Amazon or dwarf puffers, I’ve done research on both species, and I’ll see what I can get.

    Keep an eye on it but they’re very skittish and nervous fish when first introduced into a new aquarium so I wouldn’t worry too much about weird behaviour in the first couple weeks. Try and get it eating

    Does anybody know how they keep their beaks trimmed in the wild?

  • @Fishkeepingmadeeasy

    @Fishkeepingmadeeasy

    Apparently they have to forage through rocks and wood to get to food in the process trimming their teeth. They also graze on algaes on rocks and wood too. Plus the small crustaceans they eat are pretty crunchy which help too. There actually isn’t that much good information out their about Amazon Puffers in the wild.

  • @AaronBowser

    @AaronBowser

    @@Fishkeepingmadeeasy yes, exactly my thoughts. I've been searching all over for information regarding their natural behavior so that i can better understand why their beaks grow at such a high rate. I read they eat mostly fishflies in the wild. So I've started to look up information on them. They actually live in water most of their lives and can be found under rocks and wood. I imagine these puffers are digging and foraging under rocks like you said. I bought insect pellets, insect tabs, and feeder snails to feed mine along with the occasional frozen black worms and live worms. I hope that keeps their beaks down. I'm thinking about actually putting live larvae under a rock to watch their behavior

    Yeah I understand, I’m not a massive fan of wild caught fish. If I’m being honest I was told mines were captive bred but after doing loads more in-depth research and speaking to fellow puffer keepers I discovered it was highly unlikely they were and likely wild caught!
