Just disable the AF Assistant and that should fix everything with those adapters filters and hood.... the Manual mode will do it as also.

I wish there would be a lens protector, i dont much trust the original lens cap. It is a great camera, i am not also a pro, as a film school dropout student is fine for my lil projects

do you know what size filter lens I'd use for a sx540 hs?

I have the same camera and I tested your theory about the light lamp thingy lol so I covered that light or sensor really well with my finger and zoomed in and had no problem at all focusing. I did it in video mode while recording and the same thing. No focusing problems at all. Is it at all possible that the reason that your camera would not focus was due to fingerprints on the lenses?

After a bit of researching I found out that it's called a af assist beam and all it does is to help the camera focus better in low light situations and pretty close range only. So it's just a little light with no focusing ability so that's not what caused your camera not to focus properly

Did you figure it out? The lens side diameter of the adapter is 58mm. Note it's a Canon proprietary clip (forget the name) to whatever size threaded ring on the accessory attachment side. In pretty sure you won't find an actual T ring (though perhaps you've come up with something else), as I doubt this camera will work with telescopes, the lens being a multi element system, not sure you could get the 'scope focal point to fall where the camera can focus on it. I'm not deeply experienced with that aspect, but I see period have enough problems with camera bodies without lenses. If you see this, I'd be very curious to know if you made it work or found another solution. At effective focal length of 1200 mm, the camera is surprisingly usable on its own without a telescope. Do you know any fish eye lenses or wide angle lenses for this camera? I been looking for a while, but since I barely know anything about cameras, I don’t know if any are compatible

Being that the SX530hs is a point and shoot style of camera, the lens is not able to be changed.. There are a couple of Fish eye and wide angle adapters out there but they're not really good. They rest on the end of the cameras lens and just distorts the image. I don't recommend them at all. You'd be better off getting a DSLR camera that you can change lens on and they're way better. I just released a video on a budget DSLR, Canon Eos Rebel T5i, I recently picked up used if your intrested.

I'm not 100% sure for the Canon SX510HS, I have the SX530hs. But I did a quick Google search and it coming up with 52mm. Hope that helps you.
