The problem, Sergei, is that you are not in control. You are getting a percentage of the commission only. That is a major issue! You are not even receiving all of the commission. Yes, for instance, 40% might sound great but if the total commission is only a few dollars, then the 40% is even worse than just "the few dollars." Even if you want to price the total commission higher, the actual brokers will always have a lower price. This is commonly known as - "too many middle men." Sure, the broker that allowed you to come and work under him, will allow you to do that, however, you are trying to make money. He is essentially using you as a tool to find more loads and maybe establish new accounts. This is very similar to insurance agents. A person would have to be nearly completely incapacitated to not be able to work as an insurance agent. The insurance company knows that every new person brings in new family members, friends, and contacts... all of whom are potential customers. The same with real estate agents; there's a real estate agent on nearly every corner. Here's the good part - you do know how to run a truck and a trailer for heavy-haul. You can always go back to that and make money, AND, be in complete control with your own operating authority. Give this some more time; try to build your own brokerage. "Plan B" is to get another truck and roll!

Yes, this sounds just like the real estate industry. Real estate broker vs real estate agent. As an agent, you work a ton to make peanuts. How long do you keep working in an industry to see if you can actually make real money? Or do you cut your losses and shut down the business? Depends on the industry. Even as an agent, you are running your own business. With any business, you usually don't make much money when you first start. But, there has to be a point when your income starts to increase and the business becomes profitable. Do you run the business for 6 months, 12, months, or maybe 2 years until you decide to continue or shut it down? It's one of the most difficult decisions for business owners - when and if they should shut down a business...

It is far too easy for people to get real estate licenses. The business is saturated and it's largely by design. The big real estate companies want to pull in as many agents as possible because the company knows that each one of those agents is connected to even more people... more people... more contacts... more properties. It's a massive circle-jerk. Sergei is now living the same mess.

The problem is your commission. That company giving you 40% is straight highway robbery. You should be at least 65%. Look up all the brokers online. All of them are starting at 65% or higher.

truckers are only screwed when they don't know what they should charge, and are not aware of the expenses. I once took a load that paid $6K and then I spent $3K on permits and tolls. Tried to complain to the broker...He said I should have done my homework ;)

incorrect. when i was trucker i never made 200-300 bucks from a load. it was $2000, $10,000 or even occasionally $30,000! minus expenses, of course. you just have to be smart, know how to negotiate prices, and keep track of your expenses, AND do not upgrade trucks and trailers every year ;)
