If you invest in stocks you pay tax on any earnings only not the lottery money. So cash and tax free savings accounts if you don't want to pay the tax.

In my country, there are no taxes on money you win.

In Australia, you receive the entire amount up front and pay no taxes on it. Of course if you put it all in the bank and earn interest on it, you pay tax on the interest because that is now classed as income.

In Canada when you win the lottery it is one check with the full amount

Here in California, there aren't any state taxes on lottery winnings. You have to be a state resident though at the time of winning.

At a 5% State Tax rate, you actual total Net is roughly 57% of the Cash Option

What happens if you move?Like if I waited until I got the other lump sum and then moved to Belize or something would they still demand tax money?

in Denmark you just get the money you don't even have to pay taxes on it the state owns like 40% of the gambling company and the company pays enough taxes that to incentivize people gambling you don't have to pay taxes

If the IRS is gonna take %50 of my winnings then they need to pay for %50 of my lottery ticket

Assuming you live in the USA.

In Ireland and the EU. Lottery wins are Tax Exempt and you receive the *TOTAL AMOUNT* But you do pay tax on any interest earned. 🇮🇪🇪🇺
