What Happens Inside Your Ear During A Scuba Dive?! | Equalizing Ears Scuba diving

Спорт

Your ears are an important part of every dive. They can make or break the dive and understanding better how the react to pressure can really help you to scuba dive more comfortable. In this video we will tell you what happens inside your ears and why you have to equalize your ears!

Thank you for this. The illustration and demonstration was very helpful - My understanding regarding ear: #2 is the Ear Canal, #3 is the Ear drum, as you said, and #4 is the middle ear leading to the Eustachian tube (The inner Ear is also on the same side of the ear drum as the middle ear so the demonstration makes sense. Thank you again.

Thank you! This is a very clear explanation. Thumbs up!

I would have loved to learn how to scuba dive. However, I have a perforated ear drum. It's healed, but it's my understanding I could never dive because of it, especially in deep depths. I didn't know you had to equalize the ear drums. That's very interesting. I've learned a lot with just this video.

In my sixth dive (last one to get the open water) I wasn’t able to equalize properly, and I didn’t realize that ascending a bit helps. Instead I tried to put pressure on my ears and it did help a slight bit, but not actually enough. Afterwards it turned out my right ear drum was damaged, though it wasn’t punctured. Luckily there was no permanent hearing loss. But the moral of the story is, equalize often and early!

I can't equalize for some reason. Water literally goes inside my ears when I blow my nose underwater after 10ft. I havent been able to go deeper comfortable bc of this problem

Fantastic demo for first time divers. Perhaps you can dub the sound and reupload. Saw a couple of things that would be great to clarify: At 0:51: "the pressure will build back up inside the ear" is a bit of a misleading statement. The volume inside is increasing as a result of the pressure outside the ear decreasing as the water ascends into shallower water. At 1:58, perhaps you can clarify that the air "will go out on its own THROUGH YOUR EUSTACHIAN TUBE INTO YOUR SINUSES AND OUT WITH YOUR EXHALES".

Thanks for the calcification! Point two your right! Point one........Because of the increasing volume the pressure is also increasing. Right?

so how do you get the air in your Eustachian channel?

Just slight correction.... its not the negative pressure behind the tympanic membrane that influences the ear but the variation of the atmospheric pressure on the outside of the tympanic membrane that will cause an increase or decrease pressure on the membrane.

So when u have a blockage do you not try to equalize upon ascent and just go back down?

Do you recommend Doc’s Proplugs when diving for people that gets usually ear infections?

Do you add air through the nose or the mouth! I’m always confused about this

That much pressure just 3 or 4 meters down? Wow that's not much below a regular swimming pool... would never imagine

First 10 meters is the biggest change of pressure in depth interval. After that every 10 meters pressure increases less and less.

As long as you follow the recommendations you should have no problems. For example, you should not keep descending if you haven't equalize properly, in other words: you should never find yourself in a position where your ears will take damage.

Do you know what are you talking about? If no 1 is outer ear, and no 2 is inner ear, you have water in inner ear every time you dive. If you get puncture in eardrum, water gets to the eustachian tube not to the inner ear.

Better terminology would have been the inside of the ear.

@@50ftBelow what you call the inner ear in english is called the middle ear. The inner ear is on the other side of the drum

The first line of your comment is totally unnecessary. They are showing a video in which they clearly illustrate what happens to the ear even if you mute the video. It is clear that if there is a terminology mistake is not out of bad faith, or to harm other people.
