This might be the best video on KZread. The way you show the same clip at the beginning and then, with context, at the end... Goosebumps. Jon is asking himself, frantically, what he did. He's saying he hates himself. He knows what happened and is in denial about what he became in that moment. Insane storytelling. May we all find peace

MJ, Tiger woods, Mike Tyson... nearly all goat sportsmen have one thing in common: They are killers. And this can't come without a dark side. Regular people don't understand. Even the ads n the segue are flawless, Patrick is a genius!
This is much more than a Jon Jones documentary. I think every people has a dark side but very few people can separate it out. And you are right - the dark side is way more powerful than the good side when it comes to motivation and getting what you want. Sometimes, you genuinely try to be good but bad things happen in life and you end up going back to your dark side because as you mentioned - you know it will save your ass by throwing every morality out of the window if it has to. I don't think this is true for most people, but some people have that ability to tap into their dark side just like in a flip of a switch. Jones' interviews about being a good guy or a bad guy or when he is talking about his personality probably show that he is very aware of his good side and bad side. IDK whether that makes much sense though just what I feel.

You are the GOAT of this. You and Joseph Vincent are hands down the two best creators of documentary content. People need to realize that no one is perfect, I think the biggest thing about Jon is that he relates to a lot of us. You might think you’re perfect, but the fact is, ain’t nobody perfect. Nobody is without fault. More relatable than most fighters. It’s not a fake persona, it’s just a guy who has faults, and is also a crazy mf. You explained that perfectly in this video, me being into psychology, I can definitely get with this.

Obviously no one is perfect, but Jones got lucky, imagine if he would run a pedestrian in one of his drunk nights, it would be like Chris Benoit where your whole legacy is tainted by your actions, amazing fighter but he isnt my favorite by any means, one thing is having a dark side, and the other is taking lives with you, time will say greatness isnt necesarilly long, Even Lebron James is having some questionable moments, Great athletes and people were great, but they werent perfect or examples to the others

Dude, the construction of that documentary was solid. The way the story line rises and falls lures one into depths of your theme. The references to the book, Relentless, and personification of John's identity as a, "Cleaner" simply weaved the whole project into a tight braid. Inspirational as f*@$. Thanks. P.S. I still believe your doc. on Dana and the UFC is prophetic- if I recall, it was made before the WWE merger as well as talk of unifying all championship belts into one - the BMF on the planet. Just give it a few more years; at most.
You have amazing documentaries I'm a huge fan I have been missing the showtime hype documentaries for boxing but this is a different stylistic approach that actually deep dives and builds up the fighters more.

The ways these videos are put together is just remarkable absolutely breathtaking 😅 I get goosebumps all the way through.
This "cleaner" personality aspect is something I always thought about professional athletes, but above all, combat sports athletes. In order to be good at hitting another human, but above all, keep calm and composed when someone is beating you up in front of millions of viewers, requires a completely different mindset, emotional coldness and pain tolerance that "we" don't have, and we will never will. I would say Jones became the GOAT precisely because he mentally deviates even from his fellow GOATs(Silva, GSP, MM, etc), he is the only one that fights like he is not even slightly concerned about his opponent body integrity, but also didn't let Gus break his mental integrity either.

I feel like to do something after i watch one of your documentaries. That ending gave me chills. Amazing
Jones' Father's (was it his father?) speech was incredible. Goosebumps!
Great mini doc. Interesting angle to look at the Jon Jones story. Real power and striving to be better mixed with human weakness and deep darkness. Love watching the UFC and the sport of MMA, but the stories take things to a new level. So much is revealed about a person's self when they are striving to be great. Especially in the fight game. Parables on the human condition.
Incredible work producing this video. Thanks man.

A bad guy who strives being good - such an open response from Jon. What a strong documentary @Patrick Gavia! You did a remarkable job on this. I appreciate your unique approach in the video. You've woven together Jon's story, discussed his past and upbringing, delved into the concept of our darker sides, and used the book Cleaners to help make sense of Jon's situation. I too have grappled with understanding and dealing with my own darker side. I've attempted to hide or dismiss it, but that only led to it erupting unpredictably and even more powerfully. Your video taught me that our darker selves can be a source of strength. It's important to acknowledge it, coexist with it, and integrate it into our lives. But it needs to be kept under control, kept dark. Thank you for providing the clarity I've been seeking.
You’re the best to do this Patrick. What a legacy you’re building.
