What Happened to MagikarpUsedFly

Ойындар

MagikarpUsedFly's ACTUAL Champion Spotlight series propelled him to one of the most well known League of Legends KZreadrs (especially among casual League fans). Behind the scenes, MagikarpUsedFly struggled to keep making content that only his fans found enjoyable, and after abandoning his ACTUAL Champion Spotlight series - MagikarpUsedFly slowly distanced himself from KZread and the internet as a whole. This is What Happened to MagikarpUsedFly

Hey! Had a friend send this to me on Discord and just got around to watching it and wanted to say thanks for the in-depth retrospective! Reading through the comments brings a smile to my face hearing about the lives I've touched whether it's for the better or worse haha. As an update on my life, things are going great! I went into more traditional video production - not telling my audience because I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it without relying on the audience I built to jump start it. Currently I work at an Ad Agency where I went from a video editor, to head of editing and moving into head of creative towards the middle of next month. I stripped away my use of Social Media as I found it to be toxic to my mindset and that includes Twitter (or x or w/e the fck), Instagram and KZread. As of right now, YT has turned into a side gig for me as I believe it should be, and utilizing my strengths in other fields to continue doing what I enjoy outside of Social Media. There are some misconceptions in the comment section (someone said I streamed myself going off with a tirade of racist comments? lmao what kind of fake news ass), but after writing up some responses, I found it's just wasted energy. After doing YT for 10 years, 1 thing I learned is that you could literally tell people something. Dumb it down so it's easy to understand. Write it out in large text and people will still not understand lol. TL;DR - Thanks for watching! Thanks for the kind words and thanks for the retrospective in my absence! Appreciate you all and wish nothing but respect and positivity with your lives. ❤

I feel like the majority of these "why content creator X stopped/where he went" vids come down to the same conclusion of "League is frustrating as fuck and making content for just League locks you in a creative quagmire that'll burn you out hardcore." Magikarp, Redmercy, SRO, etc. That's not an insult to these vids, they're well done. Does serve as a cautionary tale to creators to not only hyperfixate on 1 thing, though.

Lmao SRO didn't quit and is still making League videos, he's just irrelevant because his viewers dropped him. He behaves like a emotionally stunted manchild on stream and was stuck in Plat most of the season. His Twitch viewership at one point dropped to hover between 100-200 concurrent viewers only, while his months old videos are stuck under sub-40k views. Enough for him to get by, but not enough for him to stop if he wants to continue making a living.

Magikarp was honestly the only league content creator i used to watch back in the day. His sense of humor and personality were the main reasons i watched his vids, not just the league stuff, even though i found him through that. I remember binging his spotlights while bored and watching his playthroughs of other games, unboxings too. He was always honest with his audience and he was a really big inspiration to me. I dont watch much of him or youtube in general lately, but i do try to check back on his and brickys channels from time to time. Also another funny thing i remember disliking his self deprecating jokes because i thought more of him than what he was saying.

Hey, enjoyed the video. It reminded me a lot of BrickyOrchid8 and his "So you want to main" series, and how he felt Pidgeon-holed into league content because of that series. He openly stated that he did not enjoy making league content and wished to do variety, but the League community hates anything non-league related, and he noticed views would plummet on anything for DBD or For Honor which were other games he was currently getting into at the time, and was actually pretty damn good at those games. He did end up quitting the League content for good after a battle with his viewers. It's crazy how much the community is obsessed with the game to the point it's usually all they play and the only content they want to consume. If I ever became a well-known youtuber(which would most likely never happen) I would avoid League content at all costs.

Something I noticed that happened to league content creators, is the community themselves as the younger audience came, became way to obsessed over ranked. Not to be THAT guy. But back in my day we really didnt give a fuck about your rank, as long as you were funny and posted good vids, you were fun to watch. These days if you aren't Diamond+ the community just kinda treats you like shit. Honestly i say the LOL community is probs the most snobbish game community when it comes to ranks.

I agree so much with him and it’s why I also stopped playing LOL as much as I use too. Riot really made this game more about competitive play (because that makes them more money) rather then a fun to play game. The gameplay is worse and the toxicity increased because everyone that plays thinks they’re gonna be challenger, which is very unlikely but they all think they’re god tier players. I miss the good old days where everyone including the enemy team congratulated someone for getting a penta kill rather then flaming each other over all chat about whose fault it is.

I think that there are two sides now. People who watched the Loltubers grow out of League, and those who miss them in the current community. A lot of my friends quit 6-7+ Years ago and we never went back. Some of us still play but… idk sometimes games just run the course with some people.

Personally, I've always understood the key factors of Matt's main motivations to move away from champion spotlights being: the unrealistic amount of effort put into each spotlight, the then after creative burnout, and the lack of content creator support league had, and still has. Matt's eventual move away from League content I've always interpreted was not out of a lack of passion towards the game, but rather a frustration with the League's content creator scene being non existent and the logistics of making Champion Spotlights. Y'know why put weeks of effort into one single video when a single twitch highlight could pull in the same numbers at the time, which inturn lead him to pursuit passion projects.

Matt is probably one of the few league youtubers who WASN'T popular cause of league. His personality is a gem the humour is amazing that's why i wish he'd do KZread no matter what game or video it is. He's still absolutely and wonderfully entertaining

I feel like it's also worth mentioning that, in his return video, Matt said he was excited to come back with new material and to talk about things he really liked and enjoyed. His first video back after the long hiatus was a breakdown of H Games that he really enjoyed. A risky topic to be sure, but it's a niche market. It should be noted, in the ENTIRE video, there was no nudity, sus sounds, or visuals, but within about half an hour the video was PULLED right off the platform for "Violating the ToS" of KZread. Which, again, none of the content in the actual video depicted anything sexual (to my recollection, but it has been a long time and I only saw it once) . What makes it frustrating is that, while KZread will absolutely take down a creators content for "violating" their ToS; in the same vein, KZread is happy to take money from ads that will absolutely advertise sexually charged games and the like. I think, had KZread not pulled the rug out from under him, Matt would've made a strong comeback to KZread; however, after his first video back was unceremoniously wiped off the platform, he just, stopped wanting to create anything. Which I can't blame him, why would you want to put any of the time and effort into a video to upload it, only to have it either completely delisted or have it demonetized because you said 'boobies' or something?

I honestly blame riot, No offense back then you could win a game with any champion in multiple different ways via split plushing, playing passively and farming or even building a huge lead, the game wasn't that snowbally, games could be 40 minutes where you just held out vs someone who to picked op early game champs like fiora or riven etc. You could effectively counter the tryhard early game champs just because the game wasn't designed to be played a single way as it was today. Now, league of legends has one playstyle, and they reward only that playstyle of ending games fast and playing aggressively earlier. You can't pick late game champions who are weak in lane unless you are in high elo and skilled enough to get through the game, because riot doesn't want games going long, herald and elder drake where made for that reason. As it is right now, The game only revolves around your botlane and only they will carry and only they will get everything and be the hero etc etc. You cannot play passively and win if you are on a tank or something safe other than an enchanter. Adcs now spike at one item and if you let the game go on they only become stronger and if they have an enchanter in the late game they are unkillable. Champions like jax, irelia, pantheon now do well both in lane and late game. Tanks will lose lane, be decent mid game and then be super minions late game. Late game mages like viktor and syndra's kits were made easier to scale into mid game rather than late game, while they still kept their safety, they basically got buffs and still remained safe to play. Bruisers are probably the best of both worlds, you can do damage as well as tank damage. It's insane how this game has become to sweaty, even in aram.

To be fair, the pros are the ones who set the standard of gameplay. The West wants slower games but the real pros are Asian and they love their 15-20 min games. So it's just Riot catering to who they feel matters, not the community that made them #1. Imo it's just how the Chinese do business.
