    In Germany if you have pain they will prescribe you with like 400-600er Ibus( ibuprofen) and say you should come back if its getting worse or still keeps hurting after a few days and only after that they will really do something, because it would take way to long to search right of the bat if it could be nothing at all(waste of resources). If it really is hella serious you wont make an Appointment at all you would just go straight to emergency room in the hospital. Atleast in rural parts its like this

    Life hack: You don't need a prescription for Ibuprofen 400, so if you need 600, just take 1.5 pills of the 400 and save the time you would need for an appointment with your doctor.

Docs get only 5 min. paid for diagnostic even specialists. And one the other side even when you get a diagnose it doesn´t mean the healthcare insurer will pay your treatment. This system is so broken you can´t imagine.

    7:35 Except the tax thing, that just isn't true. Our healthcare is really expensive though (which is a mandatory insurance, not a tax). We pay about 19% of our income in social contributions (all the insurances but it didn't say whether that was average or median) but our employers pay the same sum on top of that. To me, that is just statistical trickery. In the end, it's the same as if we paid for it all ourselves but got the other 19% on top of our gross salary. So if we were honest about it, we'd have both a higher gross salary and higher insurance premiums. Maybe that system developed before we had a national minimum wage to make sure people could pay for healthcare even if they didn't earn much? 8:40 100% my experience as an athlete in a niche sport in Germany who has had some injuries over the years. As far as "staring" is concerned: I insist, I stare too! Quite a lot actually... But that's never meant in a bad way, quite the opposite! Sometimes it's cool clothes that catch my attention. Other times, someone might have a great hair color that's unusual and I like it. Every now and then I observe older people or people with disabilities - just to be prepared in case they might need help... Maybe someone just looks great and I enjoy the sight ^^ It also often happens that members of a foreign culture catch my eye - be it through special clothing, their beautiful skin color or sometimes also through (for Germans) unusual behavior; as a big fan of "multiculturalism" I then like to watch with interest and am pleased if I can perhaps learn something. What ALWAYS attracts my attention: children! I love watching happy children and am delighted when I hear them laughing from the bottom of their hearts and see how much fun they are having... So no, "staring" doesn't always have to have a negative background ^^

  • @TheMAmeph

    @TheMAmeph

    Ай бұрын

    First time I heard about the infamous "German stare" I didn't even know what was meant by that. I'm still not completely sure :D. Is it looking at a stranger in general? Or is it to intense a look, to long or whatever? Or is it a look right into someone else's eyes? I mean, none of that per se is considered strange to me, so I guess I do German stare :D. It's by no means angry or disapproving. Sometimes it's just out of curiousity, or just looking around cause it's boring and you have to look somewhere, right? Sometimes it's to stay alert, like in the Straßenbahn. Sometimes it's a compliment actually, looking at someone with colorful clothes or pretty hair or cute children playing etc. When talking to someone it's considered rude to avoid eye contact in Germany (by that I don't mean stare constantly without a break).

  • @zasou571

    @zasou571

    Ай бұрын

    @@TheMAmephHmmm, good question, what IS staring actually? In Germany, it's completely normal to make brief eye contact when you meet on the street or anywhere else. Usually you smile briefly at each other and then move on... As I said, people are often looked at in Germany because they simply stand out at that particular moment because of something special and simply arouse interest. I just assume that in other cultures, prolonged eye contact or looking at a stranger for a longer time is perceived as staring and therefore unpleasant because it is considered rude and unusual there? (Although, on further reflection, I almost assume that people stare EVERYWHERE in the world... Perhaps those who consider friendly eye contact to be staring should provide concrete examples ^^) In my opinion, Germans don't stare, they are just interested in their surroundings and people.

  • @TheMAmeph

    @TheMAmeph

    Ай бұрын

    @@zasou571 Agreed. So it might just be that the behaviour we define as normal "in die Gegend gucken" or politely looking into another persons face for people with diff. cultural background is perceived as (aggressive?) stare. Just to add, that does NOT mean we're not sensitive to "weird" staring here, right? There absolutely ARE nuances. That's why I want to now what the defining quality for the stare actually is :D. Also I'm interested where to look or how long I'd be allowed to look at someone or an interesting thing happening without offending them in a country where that "staring" is perceived as unpolite to avoid mistakes. I wouldn't even know how to assess my surroundings properly, I wouldn't feel safe, I think. :D I'm so confused about that staring topic.

We were really good in medical care, but currently we have problems getting apointments in the doctors office, since they‘re not answering phonecalls at all and we have no idea what‘s going on with them. The goverment, that we call „the Ampel“ what means🚦, is the worst we ever had and our democracy is about to vanish, since they made up a new law against „hatespeech“ but actually means everything you say about the🚦is hatespeech and we get in trouble. So please don’t compare the „good old germany“ with the current, how we call it, dumbland.

    "German starring?" Bullshit.

But sometimes i think to myself: What if ... there is no "German starring" at all. What if ... there is an "US shame stare". Or some mixture thereof.

    Medicine in germany is as conflicted as the baby in the meme. We still have leading edge facilities and we do have a healthcare system. But more and more people need the system as people get older, inflation hit the savings really bad, and less kids grow into the system. So the quality per person we can afford get's lower. 😅 the last meme is difficult for me. I know he is only doing TikTok dances, but thats a bicycle road. Depending on the time of day this is not too far off of doing dances on the seventh avenue in NY.

    Timetables are more some sort of non mandatory guidelines for the Deutsche Bahn. You get a ticket for a train for sure, getting a train for your ticket is somewhat of a gamble. The Deutsche Bahn is a disgrace to this country. But that is what you get, when the state "manages" enterprises.

    Wow, how ugly can comments get? Out of the top three comments on Elena's interview at 8:01 one denies that she's Ukranian with some backhanded compliment and the other wants her to be in a war torn country (I guess because he couldn't stand her criticising German healthcare). That being said, I would differentiate between routine check-ups and the usual diseases on the one hand, and difficult or rare conditions on the other. If you just need a regular physician, there shouldn't be a problem at all. It's the specialists that are hard to get as the typical medical training in Germany doesn't incentivize specialists. Also: Ukranian healthcare is already on a high standard, so she wouldn't feel any improvement. When it comes to painkillers and treatment philosophy German doctors are very reluctant to prescribe highly addictive medicine (with some very specific exceptions) and try to support the body's natural self-healing capacities rather than undertake invasive procedures (again: with some notable exceptions like hip replacements, but that's an insurance system problem where hip replacements are ridiculously more lucrative for doctors and insurance companies than extensive therapeutic measures). If Elena has a specific problem her German physician might be reluctant to start a certain treatment, thinking that they better do nothing than possibly harm her (any further). Or she had bad luck.

    @@JamesBray3 yeah it's that "if you don't like it here you can leave" sentiment. But I'm going with that famous Jeff Daniels monologue in Newsroom, when he says America is not the greatest country in the world. "The first step in solving a problem is reckognizing there is one". When you're told that you're a traitor or that you hate your country for pointing out the things that keep it from being better, that's when a society gets in trouble.

Like I just met you a minute ago, I say Hello, and you're like, "Ey yo was geht ab mein Digga" and I want to just crawl under the carpet from the cringe factor. It's like saying Du multiplied by a hundred, when I wanted to start out with a Sie and get to you know you at first. But you barge right in, in your underpants, and sit on the kitchen table. Not YOU literally of course, but... Arrrg I hate this digga stuff so much.
