You can drive them without the fob but you cannot restart them once they are turned off and in some models push button start is standard and there are many locksmiths that can program the system you don’t have to go to the dealer

Just experienced this like a 5min ago. my cuz borrowed my car and I went back in the house with the keys, he drove quite a bit and had to come back, by the time he got back and opened the driver door, 2 very different very scary alarms went off through the speakers like some amber alert and pounding abounds simul, it was louder than my music plays so it alerts police.

I damaged one of my key fobs and going to purchase a new fob, but it will need reprogramming. Is this something that I can do at home without any special equipment, or do I need to go to the dealership or a locksmith can do it? (What price will I be looking at?)Thanks

Crazy part about this is it just happened to me I drove over 6 miles after my mom got out the car with the keys. I got to my destination and cut the car off, quickly realized I don’t have the keys and hurried up and cut it back on and it worked. Not sure if it gives you one change in a time frame or if it was God, I’m gonna go with God lol

@@losworkin01 man this just happened to me with my grandfather truck. The truck did finally cut off when I drove to a store and put it in park.

Keeping a spare battery for the key fob inside the glove box is a great idea for obvious reasons. Good job.

WTF. I thought this type of car with keyless system would automatically stopped at certain distances if the key is not presence. That was totally my imagination!

@@wldcrd26 most will stop the car from going over 25 without the fob. If youre already going above that and the FOB dies or for some reason you lose it while driving, you will drive with a warning light on, once you get below 25 again itll stay that way

@@dastorm4230 When the engine is in service (started), even if the electronic key is no longer present, the engine must continue to operate (this is the legislation, safety issue). When the engine is stopped (for whatever reason), if the electronic key is not present it will be impossible to restart the engine (in any way whatsoever = via the starter or by driving the car with a speed engaged in the gearbox).

I can drive away with out the key fob. It used to beep when you would walk away with it running but now it doesn’t warn you at all. You can drive away with out the fob. 2014 sienna.

I just learned this the hard way. Was leaving from word and had my hands full, put the key fob on my Mini Cabrio's roof, turned the car on (I think it worked because the key could communicate with the car through the roof?), the keys must have slipped on my way to the gas station and I was stuck when I turned the car off... Had to call a tow truck and go home by train and have to pick up my car tomorrow with the spare key fob (I hope it still works!...). Don't know if I'm going to find my keys though...😢

Almost all Key Fobs have an RFID Chip in them and don't need the Fob battery to work in order to start the car. You just need to know where in the vehicle the Fob needs to be for the vehicle to recognize the Fob. When my Fob battery died I had to put the Fob inside the center armrest console and the car would start.

Keyless fobs are fuxed! I have parked my car, locked it, walked away and left the motor running several times. Also I have shut the car off but accidentally double tap the button which turns on the accessory function and came back to a dead battery several times as well. So now everytime I park I'm checking my pockets for the key fob and checking the motor, checking the dash gauges, checking if the radio comes on, checking if the reading lights are on. It's like I have Agoraphobia and I'm afraid to walk away from the car. smh

Can you put it in park and will it stay running?

Actually, if you leave the key inside the car, you should not be able to lock it.

Is the signals switch to the right in a right hand driving vehicle? I've always thought controls were still standard in every car.

Gabriele De Mattia. Not always, a lot of European right hand drive cars have the indicators on the left of the steering wheel. I still accidentally hit the wipers instead of the indicators.

You don’t have a second key? If not you have to get a new keyfob made, locksmiths or the dealor have equipment for that.

So as long as you keep the vehicle running ure good...

Almost all cars with keyless entry come with the key built into the key fob. if your battery dies simply just use the key.

It only works for opening the door. If your fob battery dies, you can still start your car by using the fob to push the start button.

Steering wheel on the left is better cause most people are right handed and all the controls are usually on the right. But I guess if you grew up with the steering wheel on the right you be use to it I guess

I'm curious to know how you can tell if the battery in your remote is bad once you've successfully started the car and driven it for a while? After you've stopped the car and shut it down (usually at an inconvenient place during some kind of storm) the battery is now dead...what now?

in a work shop, there's equipment to check the signal strength of your key fob and determine the battery status without having to test with a multi meter. But if your key fob stop working while driving, try holding the key fob closer to the start button. then in some car's, the computer will still recognise the presence of the key fob and will let you start the car. or you have to change the battery to have it working again. if the keyfob stop working for a electronic issues inside the keyfob, then you have to tow it to a place where you can get it fixed. There's a price to pay for technology.

You'll be ok if the battery dies after you started your car and while you were driving, and you don't even need to keep spare battery for your fob in your car. That is why the message was saying "press the start button WITH your key fob", meaning literally press the button not with your finger but with your key fob. The car will "read" the key fob even if you remove battery from it completely,as long as it's in close proximity to that sensor . Some cars will have a special spot for you to place a key fob , in case battery dies.

If you stop the engine and the key is not present, you can no longer start the car.

Jezzzz so it can be stolen😢 even if you dont have the key fob you can still drive it as long as the engine is running

Stupid, Toyota makes you press the brake to start the car. But a thief can just drive away if you need to warm the car. Just tried it today and was shocked a 2019 doesn’t turn off without the key when pressing the brake and shifting into gear.

I would get that checked out! I have a 2018 rav and it always turns off the engine the moment I try to open the door after I've had it warming up.

So in short you can drive just don't shut off the car.

You take a really long time to demonstrate basic stuff.

That’s a lie!!! Because they have tutorials on KZread that people made how to program a new keyless entry key without going to the Dealership. You tubers have made videos step by step how to program new keys FOB for Prius 2008-2009.

You know, I have a push to start and it bothers me. I like to be able to feel what my car is doing. You can't feel it with a push to start like you can when you turn a key ! I wish my car had the option to also just start it with a key if I wanted to. Sorry, I know your comment is old, but figured I'd reply to it anyway. :)

@@Jamie-zs2bl It’s fine no worries I hear yea love my car it’s old and not attractive but runs great. I drive my sister’s new car and I hate it maybe I’m too use to mine but hers has no feed back you step on the gas and it just takes off way to sensitive the steering same thing and the brakes are too good I barley touch them and like ready to fly through the windshield. Maybe it’s because my car old so some things have been worn down but you step on the gas in my car and you actually feel the engine and the weight of the car the brakes have some feedback and the steering is kinda heavy actually feels like you are turning something. Some people like that like myself other hate it.

I just want to let you know that you were confusing some thing you put on your foot with the trunk of your car a boot goes in the foot the trunk is the back of the car.
