I lost my confidence in my faith at 25 I left the church because I thought I had lost my salvation.. Thanks to teaching like yours at 56 and in I'll health I have firmly trusted in Christ again.

    There's also the simple reality of the words in the passage - "work out" instead of "work" or "work for" or "work to complete" or "work to accomplish" or "work to prove" your salvation. So many ways to say it if soul salvation was intended through works. Instead, it's "be about an outworking of your salvation with fear and trembling," meaning it is a fearsome thing to do your good and obedient work (consistent with biblical principles elsewhere) out of the right heart and implicitly not to believe it's possible to curry favor with God via works.

    I'm not answering to your comment, i'm communicating to everyone who is reading this: Paul was saying that as he suffered and he has been persecuted for his sharing of the Gospel, so we should do: we should stand for Christ, if we were persecuted for our faith in Christ we should not give up and still stand for Christ, because that would be a proof of our faith and so our salvation, bacause salvation is by faith

    You bring clarity to the word.. And that's what I've been asking many of the other bloggers and many preachers to do.. Keep it simple.. For YASHUA ( Jesus ) HIMSELF kept it simple and straight forward,, For those that followed HIM were not the religious smart boys and girls,, of HIS time,, It was the poor and those that were considered to be the unlearned,, as the smart boys had said of HIS Deciples.. YASHUA ( Jesus ) kept it so simple that when HE did not want the ordinary followers to pick up on what HE was saying,, HE would then use parables,, so much so,, at some point HIS Deciples asked HIM why does HE speak to the people in parables.. At one point HE told HIS Deciples straight up front,, That what HE was saying was for them alone,, meaning HIS Deciples,, to understand and not the rest of their followers.. HE would then unravel the parable to HIS Deciples.. So I know,, GOD'S salvation and HIS message of saving grace is much much simpler than many are making others to believe.. It is straight forward,, It is simple,, And it is straight forward and simple many are and still wil not get,, for they are in search always of something more extravagant.. And the extravagant there is,, What man add to or subtract from or both.. And that's what makes sense to many..

    The scripture identifies our works with either obeying or disobeying the law of God. In the verse I will provide the word deeds is used but the greek word is also used to mean works. In other words, deeds=works. Romans 3:19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Romans 3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. Romans 3:21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Romans 3:22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

    My understanding of it broken down in the most simple way, when it comes to our salvation is: Good works = believing in Jesus (John 6:28-29). Sin = breaking of God's law (1 John 3:4). The 10 commandments are the criteria by which we all are judged and fall short of the Glory of God. Our wages for sin is death (Romans 6:23). It is why we are all in need of a savior, and why Jesus died on the cross to pay for all sin so that we can have eternal salvation through believing in Him. The ONLY way to receive God's free gift of eternal life is to believe in Jesus, that He is God, He came to earth, lived as a man free of sin, died on the cross to pay the wages of our sin and rose again on the third day (John 3:16). Once you believe in Jesus, you are saved. This is why we say, "plus nothing, minus nothing." You cannot lose this free gift God gives us, because it was never about what we did or do, it was about what Jesus did and is for God's glory, not our own (Ephesians 2:8-9). Where I believe people get confused is after we are saved. There's two things God addresses in the Bible concerning Christians after we're saved and we always have to separate these from the criteria for salvation. One is earning treasure (rewards) in heaven, this would be producing good works and the other is chastisement from God when we're not abiding in Him (sinning against God). But neither of these deal with salvation. There is no record of sin held against us toward salvation once we are saved (Hebrews 10:17), (Romans 8:1), that debt has been paid, it is finished and nailed to the cross (John 19:28-30), (Colossians 2:13-14). How do we earn treasures in heaven? This is where "good works" gets a little more broad. It is never works done on our own, Jesus tells us He is the vine, we are the branches and no fruit (good works) are produced through us less they come from the vine (John 15:5). We call this discipleship, some say that only certain Christians are "fit" to be disciples, but personally I think God calls all of us to discipleship in varying degrees throughout our walk with Him as Christians. But as we are abiding in Him, producing good works, the reward is earning treasures in heaven. This is why Jesus tells us to store up treasures in heaven rather than on earth (Matthew 6:19-21) Jesus gives us many commandments that He wants us to follow in the new testament that expand upon the 10 commandments (they never overwrite them), but are in regards to how we as Christians should abide in Him, and produce "good works" thus earning treasures in heaven as we do. There's a lot He gives us, too many to quote them all here, but mostly they deal with three things: One = Love God above all things, with all your heart, soul, strength and mind (Matthew 12: 28-34), (Matthew 22:37). Two = Love and forgive others as God loves and forgives us. As we love ourselves so should we love others, this can take many forms, helping someone in need, giving to others, praying for others, forgiving someone who has wronged you (it's hard I know) to even asking for forgiveness from someone you have wronged, there are lots of ways to do "good works" in this part, but they all come back to loving others as Jesus loves us (John 13:34), (Matthew 6:14), (Ephesians 4:32), (Matthew 22:39). Three = share the Good news of the Gospel to anyone who will hear, that there is eternal life through Jesus and what He did on the cross! Amen! We are supposed to share what God has done for us, our testimony so that others might also be saved, for this there is great reward in heaven (Mark 16:15), (Luke 10:2) Chastisement from God is the flip side to this, this is when we as Christians "sin" by not abiding in God's will. Essentially, chastisement is God's punishment for us misbehaving, the same as parents can punish their children when they do wrong, God can also punish us when we do wrong. It is meant as a means to correct the wrong, to bring us (God's children) back in line with His will (Revelation 3:19), (Deuteronomy 8:5), (Psalm 118:18). One example of this is, our human bodies were not created to die, God originally made these bodies to live forever. Science even knows this, human cells are made to regenerate, but they can't explain why they stop regenerating and why all people eventually die. The Bible explains, this is because of our sin, even after we are saved, our human bodies will die. Remember, the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). So, chastisement from God can come in varying degrees, but the desire of God is that it is meant to bring us back in line with His will. Whew, this was long and I am sure there are others who are better equipped to give an explanation, but I felt God laid it on my heart to do my best to help explain and I pray it does help. If you still have questions, I highly encourage you to pray about it and spend time in His word seeking your answers. It's amazing to me how God works in us when we read the Bible. His word is always, always the best source! My friend, I pray you and your loved ones are well and blessed in Jesus name, Amen!

    Let me offer you this, our salvation is in the Word of God. To work, according to James chapter 1 verse 25, is to look into the perfect law of liberty and continue therein. The Word of God is the perfect law of liberty. We must work our salvation out of the Word God. Like working something out of a tight spot. With fear and trembling because the Word is intricate and particular. We must work our salvation out of it with great focus. We work our salvation out of the Word of God by meditating in the Word of God day and night, daily. Consider what I say, and Jesus give thee understanding in all things.
