What Does This Gadget Do? + Homemade Beignets

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

On a recent trip to New Orleans I had beignets and was smitten, so let's make 'em at home because, NOLA, I miss you. And, while we're at it, let's figure out what this gadget does... #emmymade #beignets

That may be why I don’t love all beignets. It must be the oil & that peanut oil makes the difference. Usually they remind me of fried yeast rolls with powdered sugar

I've had a silicone scrubby pad to wash up dough and it has lasted me 4 years or more. I use it for all dishes, never going back to a sponge ever. The floppy pads are cheaper and easier to use. I bought a 3 pack and I am still using the first one.

I crocheted a scrubbie out of scrubbie yarn, and it's the best thing for removing dough from pans as well as paint and glue from my fingers when I'm doing crafts. I made a small one with a loop in it to hang on the bathtub spigot for when I need to clean the tub.

I got some chain mail when I got a cast iron pan, and was pleasantly surprised when I found that it's useful for much more than just the pan. I use it in the same way you use the doap here: For substantial messes that will gunk up a sponge or brush.

I'll be very honest, some of this stuff that you make I have no interest in making or learning to make just because it's outside my physical capabilities or very restrictive diet. But I still watch alot of your videos and any ofmthem that randomly come up in my feed. Because your personality is so sparkling and comforting like a warm hug from your Grandma when she's not there to give you one even though you really, really need one. So thank you for putting your kindness out there.

I will always remember my first trip to New Orleans with my grandparents and great uncle and aunt... I know my grandfather and his best friend my great uncle belonged to some organization that had a to-do in New Orleans. They planned to visit my Uncle, their 3rd child, who worked for the GM&O Railroad as a passenger car steward. They always woke up early having grown up on farms....and I think we may have been the first at Cafe Du Monde that morning... got to watch them open the awnings and shutters.... and they got two bags of Beignets, one of powder sugar and the other with the cinnamon & powder sugar. Everyone got a cup of chicory coffee but I got a double cream hot chocolate.... I sat in my granpappys lap the whole time, him dunking a Beignet in his coffee and sometimes feeding me a bit of soaking Beignet rich with coffee and milk...both kinds were wonderful coffee soaked. Meemaw gave him an earful about feeding me Beignets soaked in coffee... I know I wasn't even 2 yet. I think thats the best way to experience Cafe Du Monde the first time.... next time I'd be with my parents and that time? I got to meet Mr. and Mrs. Louis Armstrong.... over at some smokey Jazz Club.... good memories.

The way most people get introduced to coffee is a very very milky and sweet coffee au lait or coffee flavored milk with sugar. No coffee shame nowadays if you still like it that way. In days before Starbucks, you would be expected to drink the coffee plain black without any sugar. I tried, but I prefer some cream and some sugar. Do what pleases you!

I grew up in Maryland but for some reason my mother always made coffee (stovetop percolater) with chicory and I love it. I make my own combo -- really good coffee beans that I grind and then add in a ratio of about 1 part chicory to 3 parts ground coffee (though I put a bit more chicory in than that). I get roasted chicory granules (I think it's from Frontier co-op) that work really well.

The doap looks cool - will have to check that out. One of the best ways to clean glutenous dough or batter off bowls and tools is to soak for a few minutes in really cold water with or without dish soap. The cold water causes the gluten to harden a bit, and that makes it easier to clean off.

Chobani Extra Creamy Oat Milk is a great substitute for cow's milk in coffee. Don't get the other brands. Chobani is it.

As a mould maker, I reckon the doap would work well to get plaster off of hands and tools as well! Had the same problems as you with plaster 😅

They remind me of Dutch oliebollen... We also eat it with powdered sugar. Not sure if the dough is similar.

I have silicon scrubbers with much finer nobblies than the DOAP but they seem to be pretty similar. I mostly use them to very very quickly clean up grease. They're stunningly good at getting the dish soap all through the oil or grease (and letting the enzymes do their emulsifying goodness) and then it just washes away with almost no effort. (They also work great at cleaning dough off hands -- I haven't tried much on work surfaces.)

That Doap is so cool! I’m curious if it would work well on dried on/dregs of scrambled egg in the pan? Thats another thing that always gets stuck in my dish brush

for dough stuck on your hands I normally just put more dry flour on my hands and scrub dry really aggressively. It works pretty well but doap sounds interesting.
