    ❤🎉 I love all your content and me you're so sweet I'm also not trying to be a downer but I had a helix mattress and if you're not in a drier climate area it will mold. It also turned into a crater where I sleep on it so like it didn't hold form it just turned into a hole me sleeping in a big hole in the middle of my mattress😅

    Love your show. BTW, barnacles are not mollusks. They are crustaceans. Think of a little shrimp-like animal living in a little limestone house, standing on its head, kicking food into its mouth. That's a barnacle.

    This might be my favorite unusual (to me) food review I've seen of yours. When you opened up the little shell to reveal the little tentacle thingies I shouted at the tv, "Whaaaattttt???" We can always count on you!

    lol, I had them when I visited spain as a teen, and yep they are delish despite the looks. Also Basque style squid ink soup I had further east, fried baby river eels and monkfish is some more Spanish _'sounds/looks like hell as an ingredient, but taste like heaven'_ seafood. Spanish food is truly one of the greats, up there with French and Italian cuisine, but it is rather different; a lot more pork and seafood focused.

    I agree 100%; she is just like my mom, and I was raised this way. I grew up being introduced to foods from all over the world, and my folks had us trying foods that in this country are considered weird, gross, etc. They were (mostly, like, 90%) delicious and I'm SO very grateful that we were raised to be very adventurous eaters. I LOVE the joy of being fed something from another culture!

    Hello ,I´m from Portugal and we love barnacles (they are called "Percebes" in portuguese) ,they are truly a delicatessen, we say that they have the taste of the sea inside, very expensive shellfish because it´s super dangerous to harvest them... usually you just eat them, by sucking on them holding the claw, no need to cut them in pieces! Much love from Lisbon , 😘

    Hey! I'm from Galicia and have eaten these my whole life for special occasions at my grandad's!!! You usually boil them with a couple of laurel leaves too, and you really don't need scissors to eat them! You kinda just split it with your hands to remove the outer part and then the 'neck' is stuck to the top part so you just kind of suck the inside part out and chew it in your mouth! I don't know if I explained myself too well, but it was really cool seeing you try them! I never really thought they were weird but they are quite a rarity I guess

    I thought of that with artichokes! My guess has always been that we saw animals eat them and thought "hmm maybe we can get sustenance from that too". The only ones I really have trouble with are the ones that can poison you if you don't cook them right- how did we figure that one out!

Different doesn't mean wrong. If you eat beef in India, that's sacrilegious. Same with pork in many places. So, I'm curious how you define this?

    I’m Spanish although not from Galicia, but they really are known for them, they’re called percebes in Spanish 😄 they’re basically like eating the sea, and we usually suck them out, not peel them. I have mixed feelings about them, I haven’t still figured out if I like them or not 😂 I feel like they’re a fancy snack, like sunflower seeds 🤣

    Glad you got to try them :) Btw, Galicia (not to be confused with the historical Polish region) is the northwestern region of Spain, which actually has one of the best climates for gooseneck barnacles. They're called percebes there and they are delicious just boiled in saltwater. Gathering them is one of the most perilous fishing activities since the best ones are found on the rocks with strong waves and currents. Part of the reason they're so expensive.

    Also, traditionally, you don't cut them - you just tear the skin off and eat them while attached to the claw. I don't recommend eating the claw though.

    I was one of those “weird” kids who were born Scottish but grew up in Portugal so eating things like barnacles and squid and swordfish was my staple, it’s actually sad back living in Scotland now it’s hard to find !

    It is a bit of a trek! I'm sure good seafood and fish markets and restaurants can also be found around the lowland coasts and rivers like the Clyde and Forth.@@EdinMike

    @@nowheregirl3858 there is phenomenal seafood in both the east and west coasts of Scotland in the central belt, you are right though you gotta make the effort to head up north for the best ! I do have to travel 6 miles to get to a fishmonger, which is sad considering Edinburgh is a coastal city.

    I'm from the north coast of Spain where we consider gooseneck barnacles a delicacy (mostly for their price, a kg of good quality ones is about 200 bucks) We call them "percebes", by the way

    Thank you so much! I lived in Spain in the early 90s, before the Web and easy info searches, and I was fascinated to see these at the grocery store. But no one I knew could tell me what they were or how to cook/eat them. And, since I didn’t know what they were, I could’t try them at a restaurant, either. Loved learning about them!

    I'm from Galicia and they are good, for me they taste like sea in a good way. To eat them yo usually tear that skin by puncturing the skin near the head with the nail and then just tug both parts apart, easy and don't need scisors. xD Emmy, I really need you to try "Pulpo a Feira". Is an easy recipe that has only octopus, olive oil, paprika (pimentón) and salt... and everyone who try it, fall in love with this dish.

    Cutting them with scissors made me chuckle too xD my dad's from Galicia and I've never seen scissors used on them before this, but i have seen them used on boiled octopus. And I agree that a great seafood dish for her to try is pulpo a feira with some yummy potatoes :)

    @@YourWifesBoyfriend I don't eat mammals, such as dolphins, at all because I believe that they are akin to humans (since we're also mammals). I even do my utmost to eat dolphin-safe tuna. But as a pescatarian, to limit the amount species we can eat based not only on sentience and similarity of cognitive function, but by an organism's measure of adaptability, limits us to only eating legumes and fruit. Do you only eat legumes and fruits/seeds?

    Growing up in New England one of my childhood memories is fried clams with bellies. The necks are chewy and the bellies are creamy. Most places outside of New England only have clam strips. Your talk of steamers reminds me of those yummy clams

You are a staple household name in my home and we watch every video. Its crazy to think you've been part of my life for 13 years and I grew up with you.     I LOVE THESE (from Portugal) we do a simple saltwater boil, just as you did, i really like them with a cocktail sauce, soy or even with just melted butter with garlic and black pepper, I absolutely adore it! I think ripping them bellow the shell might be more effective than cutting since it will rip where the skin meets the tentacle bits and the meat will come attached so you can bite really close to the head without wasting anything at all. The ones you got are really big, I’m surprised they can get to that size

    Delighted and surprised that you brought up Galicia! I am from Galicia and have never liked barnacles, but everyone around me looooooves them and they all go to barnacle festivals and spend a fortune on them, especially for christmas and other special occasions, but I really don't get the appeal 😂😂😂

    I think a few people are put off by them, but i love them :) there are people in the comments here talking about their aesthetic appeal; I think I recall seeing souvenirs in parts of Galicia made with the shells of the percebes, but I'm not sure. Do you know if that's a thing?

    Portuguese here and these are quite common at sea food places around here - and one of my favourites, actually! We usually just grab the claw with one hand and user the other to twist the leathery part at the bottom, then it just slides off.

    Hi Emmy. I first found you from the Geoduck video. I'm so glad you're doing a video like this again as this is food I have never and will never try, but am still fascinated by. I just don't like shellfish and clams. Still super cool to watch though. Thank you.
