I am so happy you ended this video with the most amazing piece of A-10 attack footage ever recorded. A masterful A-10 pilot. Dude, in a single gun run, systematically took down the majority of that enemy ridden forest with the 4 calculated bursts. Never heard a GAU-8 groan like in the last burst. MAXED OUT!

They say it's about weight, but those projectiles weigh about half the total cartridge weight. So, when it and the weight of the powder is expelled, I'm not sure how much it matters from a balance standpoint that they retain the aluminum case. Either way, you're tossing more than half the weight out the front of the airframe. I think it's just easier to retain them than it is to worry about whether they might drop into another A-10's engines. You've got the space in the magazine for the casing, so just feed it back in and don't worry about that until you hook it back up on the ground.

CAS takes out tanks, apcs, ifvs, trucks, artillery, convoys, troop concentrations, hardened positions or any other threats to a ground assault. And "close" can be considered 100+/-yds. (or more) ahead of the forward elements of the assaulting force.

@@kurtbarlow9917-- it's certainly a combat aircraft, but it's not an aircraft vs aircraft "fighter (although I recall seeing something about an A-10 driver taking down an enemy aircraft, possibly a helicopter, with the gun)." A-10: the A stands for "attack." F-15: the F stands for "fighter." FA-18: a dual role aircraft that at least holds its own against enemy aircraft, but performs attack (as in attacking targets on the ground, or even water) functions equally well. So it's not an "F-10," but an A-10; look into how the USAF designations work and you'll see.

@@travelinman70 IF you have legal grounds to end somebodies life...the argument about who they are, whether their life should have been ended (instead of spared) etc doesn't matter... To reach a level of human-on-human transgression it requires extreme actions on the transgressor - threatens the basic life/existence of the other (or those around them) -steal/destroy the property that the other poured time/labor into acquiring - destroy their financial security - violate them (R word) - Infringe/Restrict/Vioalate their natural born rights (self-defense, free speech, freely traveling, keeping private matters private) ...Well that transgressor in doing so loses all justifiable defenses to their continued existence. They should be seen as (formerly) human, and lower than the dirt in the fields (which as opposed to the POS human indeed serves many good purposes). UP UNTIL NOW I'm just talking about 1 person defending against 1 other (POS) person. IMPORTANT to remember: the world is 100% unfair, nobody is going to 100% definitely 'save' you magically in that moment of need but yourself. It could be that its 100 POS persons or even 10k: your right to blanket self-defense against ANYTHING is a natural right. Is it likely you'd survive a 1k vs 1 fight if a armed group attacked your property? Unlikely....All the more reason you have the right (not privilege) to extreme measures of self-defense...tanks, missiles, warships, MANPADS, miniguns, mines etc. There are indeed VERY few groups that 100% absolutely abstain from violence in any form...and anybody besides that is incapable of mounting an argument for lethal force, because in some extreme situation they'd say it is justified (whether by a citizen or LEO or gov)...the mere act of rationalizing it for 1 human applies that rationale to ALL humans.
