    A lot of people don't realize that cars are quite vulnerable to armour-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot rounds.

    Tremendous, unbelievable energy. For the 120mm sabot round, the energies involved is equivalent to a fully loaded semi-truck (80k pounds), traveling sixty mph, hitting the target, and the energy focused on an area the size of an American dime.

  • @vegan-cannibal714

    @vegan-cannibal714

    off the top of my head, I can't tell you the energy involved, but the dart for a 120mm sabot is closer to the size of a silver dollar. the 25mm sabot the Bradley cfv fires is about the size of a dime. not that it really matters dead is dead. during Operation Desert Storm, an M1a Abrams gunner was in a fight when he happened to spot an Iraqi that was too close for comfort, pointing an rpg at his tank. the gunners' snap reaction was to lay on and fire. he was so freaked he forgot to switch over to coax (the 50cal machine gun). It turns out he had a sabot round in the tube. there wasn't anything left. it sounds horrible (and war is), but honestly that Iraqi was dead the minute he raised the rpg. the rpg wouldn't have destroyed the tank, and if the gunner hadn't shot him, the driver would have run him over, or they would have used the grenade launchers on the turret. the sabot round was probably the least painful way to go. I hope he found peace. he was the enemy, but he was a warrior to the end.

    @@vegan-cannibal714 The APFSDS-T is 76mm (3-inches). But you're missing my point. You're thinking of "diameter." I'm discussing the energy delivered. A loaded semi (80k pounds), traveling at 60 mph (88 fps) and that energy is the EQUIVILANT of impacting its focus down to the area of a dime.

  • @vegan-cannibal714

    @vegan-cannibal714

    @josephspringer7432 I stand corrected. I got you now. the energy drop off on sabot is better than other rounds, but it was still quick enough I never bothered with more than working out max ranges that i could engage the most common vehicle types. so I will certainly defer.

    @@theovaissie2480 That's correct, the other property that DU rounds have is that they are "self sharpening" meaning that as they impact materials instead of mushrooming out or breaking up the pointed tip continues to wear in such a manner that you still have a conical shaped projectile tip.
