Biltong as road trip food? As a South African, I approve this.
@derekpink
4 жыл бұрын
What is Biltong? I’m guessing from context that it’s maybe beef jerky? Is it a brand name or slang term of something? If “jerky” is a North American term, what I mean is, some kind of dried meat... probably heavily salted.
@keiyadavies1289

@@derekpink The word "bil" is from the Dutch word that is a cut of beef. "Tong" means tongue, because of its shape. Most butchers in South Africa makes and sells their own. We even have shops specializing just in biltong. Google a bit and you'll find a simple recipe or even KZread video how to make. It's cured air dried seasoned meat. Always a great snack watching sport or road tripping.

@wuddadid

@@johnrowland8713 Ahh it's nothing really. Its correct name is Monkey 47. He was close enough. '47' stands for the number of different botanicals that are infused in the gin. It is these botanicals that give the gin its huge depth of flavour. And we can see clearly why it has such a high price point per shot when we compare Monkey 47 with Bombay Saphire which only contains 10 botanicals.

Listening to Richard Hammond talk about gin is the best
"For legal reasons this is not gin"
That Marmite idea is excellent
I'm with Hammond on Gin & Tonic: I've been drinking it since before it was trendy. Bar tenders - G&T: Hi-ball glass, gin, tonic, minimal ice, ask me if I want lemon (I don't). I will return my G&T if served in a glass with a stem and/or containing: cucumber, random herbs, vegetation, a fruit salad.
His voice is oddly soothing

As a South African and obviously, fellow biltong lover, I am very happy you like it too ;) Best road snack ever!
Who doesn't drink when they cook? My grandma used to drink wine while she cooked. Both of my parents would drink beer, or wine when they cook. I proudly keep the family tradition going by drinking beer when I cook and my girlfriend usually drinks rose when she cooks.
Haha I love how Hammond slightly pauses at 49 whilst pensive (section on gin) and then looks into the camera for reassurance. The gin is however named Monkey 47 not 49.
I love videos like these with the boys

Gotta judge that hangover and add eggs as appropriate. Spot on, Richard!
I so wish I could've caught up with you guys when you were "trapped" in Trail, BC, Canada a couple years ago. My cousin caught a post on Twitter and we tried to track you guys down. I had even quickly grabbed some gag gifts that would've hopefully broken the ice. A spanner for Jeremy so he could quite whinging-on about how he'd never held a spanner in his life, for James I got a package of Bovril and for you Richard, I'd grabbed a stalk of celery. I recall watching an interview where you said after your Jet-Car accident, you'd began liking celery. Long story short, it seemed my cousin and I were only a few minutes behind you guys. By the time we'd gotten to the "airport" the lady at the desk said you all had just boarded and were about to take off. Ah well. We can't all meet our heroes, I guess. If you're ever trapped in Canada again, I'll make sure there's plenty of Gin handy. No promise on the airports being open though.
Great video.

Tanqueray + 7Up! Then French Onion Soup for the Hangover, but with Tanqueray I dont tend to have such.
Gin recommendation..... Black's it's a Canadian Gin, distilled in Peterborough Ontario, honestly its best gin as have ever tried! Hands down. Mr Hammond I think you would love it. 👍

Try ice cream when you have a hangover, someone told me about it once.. it's a-mazing and being an aussie we know a thing or two about drinking.
Agreed about some food in France, if it's just right it's awesome in the extreme. Their wine's not bad either....
