The Message and the Living Bible are fine if you want a break from your usual translations and want to try something different as long as your clear that you're reading a paraphrase.

This video was great. I use the kjv, and if I need further understanding, I read esv, nlt, nasb and bsb via bible hub app. I use to read niv (print) but was told it wasn't accurate. However, after watching this video I will use niv. I was surprised to learn kjv is only 95% accurate. I think I will use esv or nasb as my base ( because it's more accurate to the word) and use niv for clarity when needed. I like kjv for a more poetic feel when writing songs. Thanks for sharing.

It's great to hear your feedback. Everyone has their preferences and you definitely aren't alone in using different translations for different purposes.

Guys I like the CSB. I first started reading it years & years ago. Can't remember the exact year. But I got away from it for quiet a few years & came back to it & love the translation. The NKJV is good but I still can't understand some of the words. When my mom was living she wouldn't let me read no other translation but the KJV. I wanted her to buy me a NKJV at Family Christian Bookstores back in the 90's & she said no I will only buy you a KJV. When she died I told dad I can't understand what a certain verse in Psalms or Proverbs means & he said maybe you need another translation & I said you're right so I believe I bought a NKJV. I'm sticking with the CSB. Guys I agree with everything you said. Great discussion.

So glad to hear this! I felt like somewhat of a slacker not reading the King James version. I’m glad to hear my Macarthur NASV Study Bible is accurate and acceptable...although some of the notes are just plain wrong.

Great summary! My men's study group is reviewing Wild at Heart. The author quoted from The Message. One of the men commented that they wished the author would not use The Message since it is a paraphrase. They learned this after we watched Dan's videos on How We Got the Bible. It was nice to see that the earlier lessons stuck and were put to use!

We mentioned it briefly in our updated video on this topic. Neither are familiar with it beyond comparisons of a few verses/passages. It seems to be similar to the ESV but with a bit more readability focus than the ESV. Overall, it seems to be on the more literal translation end of the spectrum than paraphrase - possibly a good middle ground between things like the NASB and NIV. Those are our quick thoughts, but we haven't used it extensively. Are there specific things you have liked or disliked about it?

I use esv and csb bibles. I have my grandma"s KJV that I cherish but its so old(90 yrs) I'm afraid I'd damage if I read it daily.

NASB. I want to know what John said. I need the words.

No! Do not use the Message "Bible" for any reason. Do not let the words of men replace the Holy Spirit in illuminating the meaning of the text.

Preferably no translation at all. Best to learn the original languages of texts if one is able to do so. Every translation is wrong somewhere.

"99.something percent accurate to the originals". Since we don't have the originals, it is hard to understand how someone makes such an emphatic statement.

The almost 6000 Greek Manuscripts we possess, copied and microfilmed for every scholar in the world to see, when compared by place of origin, date, and lineage, and when collated, demonstrate to a very precise degree of probability the original text of the New Testament, or at least the text that was circulated in the two centuries after Christ. - Dan

bart ehrman in misquoting jesus said few things that surprised me on this, that most alterations were mere mistakes and not theological. and also he admitted the oldest form of the text is closely(actually he said "very closely") related to what the original author wrote.
