Do you have family history of kidney disease and want to know the signs and symptoms? Perhaps you have risk factors like high blood pressure or diabetes and want to know the signs to watch out for with kidney failure.

There are a lot of factors to go over with determining the signs and symptoms of kidney disease and kidney failure - so let's dive in!

Working as a kidney doctor, I found that my patients were often unaware of just how important diet and lifestyle were and how often they felt unsupported by generic advice to “eat healthy”.
The home cook in me hated hearing this, so I set out to find a better way. I began to combine my medical training and love of food, making videos of simple recipes that were based on science and packed with flavor. Instead of just saying “eat healthy” to my patients, I could give them the resources they needed to make a real difference in their health.
Kidney doctor, passionate home cook, and KZread sensation Dr Blake Shusterman empowers people to proactively manage their health by stepping into the kitchen. The author of several cookbooks with over 100,000 KZread subscribers, The Cooking Doc® believes anyone, at any age can transform their health with small changes that make a big difference. Based on science and packed with flavor, Dr. Blake’s simple recipes have inspired home cooks everywhere to change their diet, retrain their taste buds, and transform their health.

@@alejareolo1392 First I looked up Kidney Disease and found Anti Inflammatory Diet which gives you the basics I drink a pineapple smoothie every day which is part of the diet. I learned that store bought pineapple juice is no good as it is boiled. Initially I used fresh pineapple but during early Covid in my part of the country there were none. Some brands of canned pineapple are not boiled, boiling destroys some vital enzymes A 2 serving for the smoothie (that's how I make it) 6 oz of pineapple junks in it's own juice not syrup, 2 oz of coconut milk we still don't have fresh coconut so I use canned unsweetened with about 4 oz of ice cubes. I am in my 60's Pineapple (unboiled with their natural enzymes) are very healing First I noticed I no longer needed OTC meds for indigestion, Next I see an eye doctor annually and my reading prescription was 4.25, my vision improved and I am currently typing with no glasses as I now have 20/20 vision to the shock of my optometrist. I was being seen by a nephrologist after the first 8 months of changing my diet he told me I only have to see him if my numbers return to what they were. I was seeing my primary care every month, then every 3 now every 6 I get tests before I see her so they check my kidney numbers. Not only has my nephrologist and primary care asked me for the smoothie recipe many of their staff have. I stopped drinking caffeine and soda. I increased my daily water intake to 80 oz a day I am on no prescription medications. I take over the counter supplements which I show to my primary care doctor There are certain other foods that are very beneficial for kidneys such as cauliflower (which I never liked but now I have steamed cauliflower daily) Cauliflower, Blueberries, Egg Whites, Garlic, Red Grapes, Olive Oil Strawberries. You need foods low in potassium and high in vitamin C, manganese, and fiber, foods. I found the Cooking Doc he has a lot of great ideas. He is the only site I subscribe to I truly wish you the best of Luck as I say every day when I drink my smoothie or water I say To My Best of Health I send you Love and a Prayer for Healing

I was diagnosed 6 months ago when routine blood work showed GFR of 30. After saw nephrologist we determined it was likely caused by an NSAID I was taking. I went for the visit with a lot of anxiety and depression and left the office hopeful. He switched some of my meds to more kidney-friendly and gave me something to focus on---daily BP and daily weight. Over the next 6 months I lowered my sodium intake. at that point my GFR rose to 45 and my BP returned to normal without medication! I'm thrilled, but there is still more I can change to help lower the pressure on my kidneys. The thing is, its easy to panic at all the changes after you are diagnosed. Start slowly with something you think you can manage. Face up to the fact that you grew up with a set of food habits, but you can change those habits. A little success makes the next step easier. Its a journey. Good lick on all your journeys!

It was on an MRI 5 years ago and nobody told me except a disability judge told me to get in the Dr I'm way worse than they've told me. Now I know why. I'm pretty upset.

Did you know that on dialysis treatment for 3 days a week, 3 or 4 hours a session is only equal to a GFR of 8%. I'm a journalist and researched it. So at 14%, you are at a better level than if you go on dialysis, which is 3 days a week at 4 hours a treatment equals 12 hours filtration at 8 GFR. But now you have 14 GFR filtration for 168 hours a week with your kidneys. Much more cleaning and filtration.

I am trying to figure this out myself and feel overwhelmed. I like keto diet, but isn’t it opposite to my diabetic diet? So, please give me a suggestion as to which diet I should follow. I really HATE that these doctors don't reply to comments like this. They have the time to make these videos and get the glory, yet they can't seem to answer people like you in at least a weekly basis. I'm not a doctor, and tonight is the first time I ever felt pain in my kidneys. It's my right one. I think my issue may be the amount of adderall I'm taking and going on 48 hour binges of not sleeping and barely eating. Something I've done over the years with doctor videos I've watched on the internet. I watch about five of them on whatever topic. I always type in things like "worst" before "best." So I'll type, "worst things that are causing my kidneys damage. Then I'll compartment that and add a "food" to that worst search. I'll buy a couple books on the topic, and I'll research a few documentaries on said topic. After I've done all of this. I do it again about three times, but table these methods. In the end, I learn the basis of how to fix my issue. Most importantly I learn how to maintain the issue. The goal is to pick up on the commonality of your sources. See what the books, internet doctors, your doctor and documentaries say. I wish you all the best of luck. If it helps, when it comes to water? I only drink water that has a PH of 8 or higher. I also drink half my body weight in ounces every morning. I put the 52oz water bottle right next to my bed and I keep a gallon of water right below it. This way I'm creating a visual. The last thing I see before I sleep and the first thing when I wake. I drink the water before I brush my teeth or any of that. Its very hard at first, but like anything else in life. The activity and process is never the true difficulty. It's creating the habit that is the true mountain peak I'm trying to reach. P.S I reversed my diabetes last summer after having a A1C1 I 10.7. A lot of the reason I was able to do that was because of this documentary. I discovered it years before. I made myself watch it after about 9 weeks three times a week. It changed my life, and I believe it will for you too. The only way I know to watch it is by renting it on Amazon Prime. Trust me when I say this. Buy the documentary, don't rent. It's about six or nine bucks to buy. kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZYGqo69yZ7mqdZs.html

I enjoy your videos, but ckd doesn't get much discussion from doctors. Over the years I have worked with people who had ckd and some who were on dialysis. I had my own wonderous experiences with kidney stones. Yet it was not until I was going through some med notes on a patient portal that I learned that I actually had ckd. Surprise! It took several more years, and another couple of bouts with stones, to learn that one of my kidneys is, for all intents and purposes, not working. Why is ckd not talked about? Is it because the symptoms are so generic and understated (they just don't make themselves known)? How do you get to know how much you don't know? You go through pcps and urologists and when ugly starts to hit the fan you hear, maybe it is time to see a nephrologist. What's with that? It makes it hard to help yourself. (I have a great pcp, and am doing the doc in box thing regarding urologists, finally got referred to a nephrologist, but the process has been confusing and frustrating.)
