How much water should you drink with kidney disease
In my last video I talked about how much water someone needs to drink to keep themselves hydrated and I talked about your "wicked smart" kidneys. Of course, I neglected all the people who follow me who have chronic kidney disease and whose kidneys don't work perfectly. I address that in this video.

Working as a kidney doctor, I found that my patients were often unaware of just how important diet and lifestyle were and how often they felt unsupported by generic advice to “eat healthy”.
The home cook in me hated hearing this, so I set out to find a better way. I began to combine my medical training and love of food, making videos of simple recipes that were based on science and packed with flavor. Instead of just saying “eat healthy” to my patients, I could give them the resources they needed to make a real difference in their health.
Kidney doctor, passionate home cook, and KZread sensation Dr Blake Shusterman empowers people to proactively manage their health by stepping into the kitchen. The author of several cookbooks with over 100,000 KZread subscribers, The Cooking Doc® believes anyone, at any age can transform their health with small changes that make a big difference. Based on science and packed with flavor, Dr. Blake’s simple recipes have inspired home cooks everywhere to change their diet, retrain their taste buds, and transform their health.

I had a kidney transplant a year ago. I was told by two different drs that I was drinking too much water. I was drinking equivalent to 2 liters, no swelling, my urine when tested was very clear. I was told that it was way too much, it gets so confusing. I’ve been told forever, drink, drink, drink, now it’s too much🤷🏻‍♀️

Sadly, many doctors don't give a f.u.c.k. about their patients. You say you don't trust your doctor and I have no doubt you are correct. Tell the next Nephrologist "I am too young to be dealing with this and I want to make sure what we are doing is working". Be prepared to take blood/urine tests more often because once your kidneys decline you aren't getting them back.

I'm stage 2. Went to docs last week for results of bloodtests. I forgot to get printout of results, though he did say my urea was high, and he found he had many patients with high urea and it can be caused by red meat and heat, ( we are having a very hot summer. Through doing my own research I found it also can be caused by dehydration, so I'm finding out how much water I need to drink. I have read 1-2 litres, or when I'm thirsty. I don't see how water intake for me at 45 kgs. and someone who weighs 100 kgs could be the same, and now I have to worry about drinking too much. My doctor is helpful to an extent, but because I won't take any medication, no diabetes, normal blood pressure, certainly not overweight, I mainly only see him for tests every 3 months. As he said, his job is to prescribe medication, that's what he's trained for, and as I won't take medication, ever, he can't do much, so I'm on my own with much conflicting advice to sift through. I'm also concerned with my weight loss, as all fattening foods are things I can't eat.

39 isn't so bad. If you get a blood test every 3 months you'll find it fluctuates and may even rise back up in the 40s. You're only just in stage 3 and it could stay there for a number of years. Basically, your kidneys have to filter everything so be mindful of what you put in your body. Potassium is one mineral that can be dangerous for the heart if the kidneys can't filter it out of the body, but there are others, so it's important to read-up and know what these are.

I have had people taking diuretics to flush out urine due to kidney disease, be able to use the restroom themselves now by just drinking pure distilled water. Distilled water doesn’t contain those impurities. Some people actually started to flush out those kidney stones just of pure distilled water. Wouldn’t you agree?

I don't have kidney disease, but he made a very dangerous statement: "your kidneys will let you know how much water you need. So just drink when your thirsty". Unless I've been sweating due to extreme heat, or exercising, I'm never thirsty. This has caused me to dehydrate and develop kidney stones. I asked a doctor once why I'm rarely thirsty, and he gave me a blank puzzled stare and said nothing. Most doctors are like trained monkeys. They read off a script they are told to obey. If you ask them an unusual question that requires them to think, their brain just stops working. So to keep from dehydrating, I do a rough measurement of the fluids I consume each day. If I get behind on the fluid minimum, I drink extra the rest of the day to catch up. If I sweat, I have thirst, but I don't count the liquid towards my minimum during the thirst period.

I sweat because I’m outside more then inside, have a debilitating chronic spine and neck issues but refuse to lie around, so inflammation makes me sweat and chill… fun times! @carolynscott3828 Carolynscot5 blood test 8s how you find out. What is a glomerular filtration rate (GFR) test? A glomerular filtration rate (GFR) test is a blood test that checks how well your kidneys are working. Your kidneys are two organs on either side of your spine near your waist. They have tiny filters called glomeruli. These filters remove waste and extra water from your blood and gets rid of them through urine (pee). If your kidneys have been damaged by kidney disease, they can't filter your blood as fast as they should. A GFR test checks for kidney disease by measuring how much blood your kidneys filter each minute. GFR can be measured directly, but it is a complicated test to do. So health care providers usually estimate GFR based on the amount of certain waste substances in your blood. An estimated GFR is called an eGFR. To figure out your eGFR, your provider usually uses the results of a blood test that measures your creatinine level. Creatinine is a waste product that comes from normal wear and tear on your muscles. If your kidneys aren't working well, creatinine can build up in your blood.
