    Started with 18:6 on January 23. Today is March 6 and I have lost 13,2 lbs. (6 kg). It hasn't been super quick, but I am losing weight steadily and effectively. I am fasting between 11:00 and 17:00. Strange thing is that it hasn't been difficult at all and I don't even feel very hungry at 11:00 when I am breaking my fast. Only about 8 lbs to go and I have reached my goal.

    Thanks Kim. 😊 These are great tips 👌🏼🌟 I’ve done intermittent fasting with keto before years ago but have just had some blood test results come back with high cholesterol. So I’m gently easing back into it, this time as a lifestyle change rather than a diet. I’m more concerned about healthy eating with virtually no processed foods - and cutting out the sugar - it’s my huge downfall. Although it is currently summer here, so that does make it a little easier. This time around rather than go cold turkey off sugar - I’ve introduced monk fruit sweetener to replace my white sugar and cut my coffee intake. I’ll gradually cut it out altogether. I’ve also cut my No Sugar Coke addiction down to one per day - that will also go soon. If I cut everything out at once, I know I’ll fail. I don’t miss chocolate, or bread, or chips…so far 👌🏼 I’m interested to watch your other videos, particularly how you went losing weight.

    I'm wondering about consuming water during longer 18/24/36 fasts.I recently managed a 72 dry fast that i've gradually built up to,to address a trapezoid trigger-point issue and torrid as it was,the effects were very encouraging,albeit a day later,i guess the stresses on the body for this time period are considerable ? l seem to have experienced a full-immune re-set in the process which is apparently typical.I no longer crave the sweet stuff,but when i occasionally do succumb to the biscuits (cookies) i sure pay the price with inflammatory responses.One interesting thing is my coffee consumption is all but gone,i just can't handle black coffee sans cream and sugar so it's earlgrey all the way without milk as the bergamot is more enjoyable without milk i'm finding increasingly. Don't really know where i'm going with this lol,just some random thoughts mostly but i'm thinking the way to intermittent fast properly is to tackle the bigger fasts to re-train the gut to become more accustomed to considerably less food enabling a longer intermittent fast,as humbler meals become,by default,more satiating from then on ? I guess dieting for weight loss and fasting for health are two different prospects ?

    I was wondering if adding a tsp. Of cooking extracts like pure vanilla extract or almond extract in my coffee would break the fast. Just straight extract. Just curious.

  • @KimFosterMD

    @KimFosterMD

    Жыл бұрын

    It's a good question, and this one is somewhat controversial. Some will say that extract is completely fine, but others will say it will break your fast. For me, this would fall into the category of "dirty fasting" which means that it's not a pure fast, since there's a small amount of calories here. I suspect it would break your fast, and wouldn't give you the results you're looking for, but the best thing to do is experiment with how your own body responds! Hope that helps :)

    Kim, What do you think of eating most of your food early in the morning and starting IF around noon? Dr. Boz says we get a spike of cortisol and insulin before we wake up and that the insulin remains higher in the early part of the day. If we stop eating around noon we can see insulin drop very low and this is where fat burning kicks in. It is also recommended that we eat mostly good fats little protein and a small amount of carbohydrate. I guess this is supposed to restore a deranged metabolism to good metabolic health. What do you think?

  • @KimFosterMD

    @KimFosterMD

    Жыл бұрын

    The beautiful thing about fasting is that you can shift your fasting window to the time period that works for your lifestyle. So if starting your fast at noon works better for you, then give it a go and see how your body responds. The question about your macro composition is more than I can answer in a comment -- but it's a really good question, and I'll put it on my list of videos to create in the future.

Or minimise it to 12-13 hours, and then go back to your 16-18..Once in a while throw in a 24 or even a 48 if you have things like allergies or joint pain. Works a absolute treat, and it’s free 😁😁 x

    I’m a 71 year old woman so my metabolism has definitely slowed, but I did expect to lose more than five pounds in the last five weeks! I’ve been doing the 16/8 regimen and enjoying it. No cream in coffee, gallons of water etc. I’ve been very careful what I’ve been eating during my eating window. Even cut out WINE!!!! After weighing myself this AM and being so disappointed I will press on. I will cut out all carbs now and wonder if it’s the small amounts of very low carb eats I’ve been making that has been holding me back. I’ve been using chickpea, lupin, buckwheat flours etc. my plan is to avoid the scale for at least another month. Why depress myself when I’m feeling so well? At least I’m not in Ukraine or Turkey where 71 year old women have real problems in their lives. D Clayton Edmonton, Canada

    Chickpea and buckwheat are both high carb. Chickpea flour has 43.2 gms of net carbs per cup. Buckwheat flour has 72.7 gms net carbs per cup. Lupin should be ok, it's very high fiber, and only has 4 grams net carbs per cup. I use Lupina because it's never bitter, like some brands can be. I'm sure they're others that are good, but I don't know which they are.

    I have been if for 3 days. I am 135 and want to be what I weighed before my third kid 120-125. Since I have 4 kids and super busy in the mornings, I have unintentionally been doing the 16:8 fasting but I would have heavily creamed and slightly sugared coffee. So I cut that out and drink it black. So I don’t think I’m jumping into it too quickly. I have decreased my processed carbs and pretty much do keto but I add a little bit of fruit. I have added a 30 minute beginner HIIT exercise I have lost absolutely nothing. Not even an ounce. I am so frustrated. I will keep going but it’s just so frustrating. I’m not a stressed out person, I sleep fairly well. Also, the coffee thing is torture for me. I love my coffee mate coconut creamer and milk in my coffee-I miss it so much. It was such a ritual in my day!!

    I would encourage you to persevere....3 days is not long and you may see changes in how your clothes fit before you see a change on the scales. Enjoy your favourite coffee during your eating time. You will really enjoy it then and not feel so deprived....make drinking a certain amount of water in the morning your new "ritual" or treat yourself to a more expensive shower gel or something out of the ordinary to make you feel good in the morning!

    I haven't jumped into intermittent fasting yet. I'm eating keto-ish, and I've lost over 60 lbs. But I seem to have hit a plateau. I never tested for ketones before, but I've ordered the strips. I want to make sure I'm achieving ketosis before I make other changes. But intermittent fasting is sounding better now than it did before. I finally reached a point where I don't get hungry as soon as I wake up, and I no longer need to eat as late as I used to. I think my blood sugars have stabilized enough to allow IF now.

    I haven't started IF yet, right now I'm just learning about it, to see if it might be good for me. I would think just waiting for my feeding period to start before having coffee with any additives, would be the way for me. I used to have coffee first thing when I got up, but I haven't done that for years. I often only have water for the first couple of hours I'm up. My problem might be meds and supplements I need to take. I have to take thyroid med on an empty stomach, and can't have dairy or calcium within 4 hours either direction. I have an absorbtion problem with minerals, so I need my supplements, or I develop deficiencies. I usually wake up a couple of times when I'm sleeping, that's when I take my thyroid, and go back to sleep. The tablets (levothyroxine) are tiny, but they have a slightly sweet taste. I don't know if that's enough to throw a monkey wrench in the gears. I can wait until time to eat before I take my daytime pills, and take the evening ones before my fast starts. But I can't take the thyroid with those, it's got to be all alone.
