Just here to say I'm a metalhead guitarist who can sing, rap, and even produce beats yet you'll find more 70s and 80s music on my Playlists. One day i could be listening to elvis and the next i could be listening to twista. From the Beatles to frank Sinatra or 311 to killswitch engage. Being diverse no matter how painful (country 😅) the transitions can be will inevitably broaden your musical horizons.
If the 80's had an official song, it would be this one. This song just captures the essence of the 80's. Free spirited and fun. I miss those days more and more every single day
I grew up with this wonderful music. The lyric, "There's a room where the light won't find you Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down When they do, I'll be right behind you" rips me apart every time. It reminds me of my late mother's love. So powerful.
"Shout" is really good too.
I always loved the line "I can't stand this indecision, married with a lack of vision"
"Shout" is the quintessential Tears for Fears song. You can't listen to the group without having that song going on in your head. You need to check it out.
Head over heels should be the next reaction
Tears for fears have many hits like shout and woman in chains
Welcome to 80’s feel good, makes you wanna dance, happy time music, Simpler times. They don’t make it like this anymore.
A few other Tears for Fears Songs to listen to are 'Pale Shelter', 'Mad World', 'Change', 'Shout', 'Woman in Chains', 'The Seeds of Love' and 'The Year of the Knife'
This is my favorite song of theirs. It was used in the soundtrack of many 80s films, including "Real Genius" starring Val Kilmer, where Val had the line "Ice is nice!" Little did he know that a year later he's be playing the "Ice man" in Top Gun and he was anything but nice! As for the gas prices, yeah, it hurts. When I drove my 1999 Ford F-250 off the lot in 1999 I remembered the first fuel up. Diesel cost $1.17 a gallon. 271,000 miles later, it still runs like a dream.

Curt Smith went viral during the pandemic for posting a duet with his daughter covering the bands hit “Mad World”. It’s beautifully done and it’s cool to see he still very much has it.
Every time I hear this song it brings me back to simpler times, check out Shout, Sowing the Seeds &/or Head over Heels. Cheers Fr: Canada
"Head over Heels," "Sowing the Seeds of Love," "Shout"! These guys are the Pink Floyd of 80s and 90s pop music (maybe along with Pet Shop Boys)--very thoughtful lyrics and top-notch musicianship! P.S. Those gas prices are high even for that time. Those were the prices you'd pay if you were driving between L.A. and Las Vegas.
Aileen, 'Tears for Fears' are a band from the U.K. they formed in 1980 and had many hits through the '80s into the '90s and beyond. Songs which I recommend by them are: "Mad World", "Memories Fade", "Change", "Ideas as Opiates", "Pale Shelter", "Watch Me Bleed", "Shout", "Head Over Heels", "Sowing the Seeds of Love", "The Way You Are". There are many more but these are good ones to continue with.
Ah yes…. One of the anthem songs of Gen-X. Thanks for bringing back the memories.

Fun fact, we have a speech therapist to thank for the wonderful voice of the singer, as a kid he had a really serious stutter, and his therapy included singing lessons to learn better control of his diaphragm, this is where he (the singer) discovered that he enjoyed singing and actually sounded pretty darn good, and... he did not stutter during singing. Over the years he got better and better at singing and learned to control his stutter thnx to that, and eventually it gave us this amazing band for the ages with songs that stand the test of time.

Shout, Sowing the Seeds of Love, Woman in Chains, Mad World. These four very different songs are not only great, they also show you how creative and great these musicians are.
Head over heels, sowing the seeds, shout! All are fantastic!
Their song 'Shout' was also covered by Disturbed in 2000. The final track on their 1985 album is called 'Listen', and while it's not a popular choice, I always found it so relaxing, that by the end of the song, I would be effectively immobilized.
First of all, it was the early 80s & MTV had just came on TV. Most of the 80s music was good & diverse, but the first few years of music videos didn't make a whole lot of sense. The cowboy kid didn't make anymore sense than having the doo-wop guys in suits doing the dance number at the shut-down gas station. If you're digging Tears For Fears, they also did the theme song for the Donnie Darko movie (Jake Gyllenhaal), called Mad World. My favorite version of Mad World is where the singer in the pink T-shirt (Curt Smith) sings it along with his daughter on a clip from the Today Show they filmed from home during the pandemic. It's here somewhere on YT. They also have an upbeat dance number called "Break It Down Again" that'll get you up & moving.
Oh yeah, this is the kind of music that can lift up your spirit at any moment in your life that you need it!
they both have that voice, makes them so good together.
This is my favorite pop band of all time. So many timeless hits and they still sound great now. Saw them a couple of years ago when they were touring with their brand new album! Their voices are still super clean, you can really tell they have taken good care of their vocals.
Noone has mentioned their classic Woman In Chains with Oleta Adams... just an amazing piece of musical beauty and sorry. Well worth a listen. Great reaction as always - thanks 😊
I also love this video because Curt Smith is driving the Austin-Healey 3000 sports car in Southern California on the 10 through Desert Hot Springs and Palm Springs!
Now you have to watch Real Genius with Val Kilmer. This is the closing credits cut, and a great end to hysterically good movie.

Fits the themes of the movie and matches the moment so well. My favorite 80s movie, somehow criminally underrated now. An actual countercultural comedy that cares about actual nerds and holds up almost entirely compared to other 80s comedies.
I saw Tears for Fears on the Songs from the Big Chair tour in 85 and again on the Seeds of Love tour in 1990. When they split after that song I saw Roland Orzabal on the Elemental and Raoul and the Kings of Spain tour and Curt Smith on his solo tour in support of Soul on Board album. All shows in Los Angeles and San Francisco except Seeds of Love in Atlanta GA. I was there on business I live in Santa Monica California but used to live in San Francisco. The band is one of the best duos ever like Hall and Oates!
Another classic upload from the queen she is so pretty aswell thank U queen have a lovely night looking forward to Ur next upload
Shout, or head over heels, or mad world, or woman in chains. So much good music by this band!
This was a bit before my time, but it was an era where record labels went out and hunted for musicians and bands. Now the record labels create the musicians and bands. They find one sound that is popular and flood the market with carbon copies until everyone is tired of it. That is by design to make as much money as possible in as short amount of time as possible. It's not about the art anymore.
Perfect 80's song, love it at the end of REAL GENIUS 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿
I have loved this song ever since I heard it at the end of the movie “Real Genius” when I was a kid in the 80’s!
Tears for Fears is one of the bands that defines the 80's for me when I was an undergrad. I'm now 67 and their music will never leave me.

One of the big bands I can remember from my early- to mid-teenage years in the 80's with several hits to their name. Shout, Everybody Wants to Rule the World, Mad World, Sowing the Seeds of Love and more. And very distinctive. You definitely know it's them you're hearing if you've ever heard them before.
Another great band from a great era of music. This song was also played at the end of the 1985 movie "Real Genius". As mentioned below, I'll second the "Shout" and "Head Over Heels" recommendations.
I discovered Tears of Fears only 5 years ago with Head Over Heels, which has become one of my favorite songs of all time. I hope you'll continue listening to more of them!
Surely one of the best and most successful rock bands of the 80ies !!!! So different and rich in sounds and songs.
Wow, first time hearing one of the top 10 groups of the 80s, you are in for a real treat hearing their great songs.
Curt Smith (lead vocals on this song) and Roland Orzabal (on the guitar, and backing vocals) trade lead vocals on their songs. The entire album that this song comes from 'Songs From the Big Chair' is a masterpiece of the 80s. "Shout" and "Head Over Heels" are also both amazing singles from the album. This song was the last one recorded for the album, as it just started as a guitar riff that Roland would play. Their producer forced them to keep working on a song using the riff all during the making of the album, eventually creating this gem. In my top 10 of the 1980s...this is like #3 for me. I adore this song.
You're right, their voices are unmistakable. Check out their song "Shout", then check out Disturbed's cover of it as well.
A band from the 80s called the Stabilizers and their hit song “ One simple thing” is worth a listen. Guarantee it’s a great one that you’ve never heard
Tears for Fears is such an underrated band as not only both Curt and Roland vocals are perfectly harmonized but both of them are super talented musicians. Curt on the bass and Roland on the guitar it's pure magic. Now a days most pop solo acts and even some bands don't even write their own music. Side note, there is no trying to make sense for most music videos from the 80s, it's just a visual vibe to enjoy and ride along 😎
Curt and roland formed tears for fears whilst students and are from the city of Bath in somerset England, The car featured is a nod to their British origins as its a british sportscar called an austin healey and it belongs to the guitarist and vocalist roland orzabal and he still owns it. They recently reformed pre pandemic and are currently back on tour from the pandemic postponed reunion tour. There is a recent remake of this song by them which features additional vocals supplied by curts teenage daughter performed live during the pandemic lockdown crom curt and rolands homes
You cannot beat 80’s music. Period.
Only I’ve ever heard the chorus bit, but never the full song till now! I have to say real quick, you do a lot of that eyebrow thing and it’s so cute how often you do it 🥹❤️When you mention how electric it feels, you were so on point with that!!
fun fact The year the song came out, it was featured in the ending to the science fiction comedy film Real Genius. In 1986, the song won Best Single at the Brit Awards.
Great GREAT band from the UK. Great Music!! They just got back together a couple of years ago after not talking with one another for over ten years. They released a new album called The Tipping Point, a bit dark, but really really good. One of my all time favourite bands.
We didn't know how good we had it.
Wowwww,one of my favorite bands
Tears for Fears, especially their album "Songs from the Big Chair" were pretty big in the 80s. "Shout", "Everybody Wants To Rule The World", and "Head Over Heals" are definitely on the soundtrack of my senior year of high school.
This is one of the most epic songs ever! Tears for Fears are great! Reminds me of my childhood whenever I put them on.❤️🔥
one of the biggest hits of the entire decade....Tears For Fears are very good...a lot of great songs...people have mentioned them in the comments already but Shout, Head Over Heels, Sowing the Seeds of Love, Mad World, Pale Shelter, Woman in Chains...if not for the channel you should check them out on your own... :)
"Woman In Chains" will blow your mind and tug your heartstrings. It features the amazing Oleta Adams as the guest vocalist.
Lova ya, Aileen! Great work and great selection of an awesome tune.
Tears for Fears is a duo. The guitarist is the writer/arranger. The lead singer on "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" is a bassist. Watch "Mad World", "Pale Shelter", "Change", "Head Over Heels", "Shout", "Mothers Talk (long version)", and "Working Hour". The name Tears for Fears is based on the band's Primal Scream Therapy experiences.
I think the little boy at the playing at the beginning fits into the care free nature of the song. A child playing , a plane flying, a car driving on the open road all represents a sense of being absolutely free. Which was definately a total 80's feeling with a very whimsical vibe for this song that just fits together and is why it has endured all these years..
This is my favorite Tears for Fears song. I was a teen when it came out. It was in the outro for the movie "Real Genius." I was off to college a scant couple of years later. The line that has stuck with me all of these years since is "I can't stand this indecision, married with a lack of vision". There are a number of ways to interpret the song. I choose to see it as a call to live your life despite all of the turmoil in the world.
Huge song in the 80s. The video also reflects the vibe of the time, maybe because I was in college at the time living in a beach community in So. Cal, it really brings back so many similar care free memories that was shown.
Awesome song and it was featured prominently in the movie that stars Val Kilmer, Real Genius. A great 1980s movie that is a true classic. I think you'd have a lot of fun watching it sometime. I remember when gas went up to $1.50 a gallon and was bummed it had gone up so much. The 80's were truly an iconic time and a literal vortex in time that will never happen again. A truly magical time. It had it's problems and concerns, but we had so much to listen to and to watch and to work with, it truly was magical for me. I grew up in the 80's and miss it all the time. Thanks for another great review!

Gotta watch “ Shout “ next! Tears for fears are still making music and touring till this day.
This was filmed in the Imperial Valley of central Southern California, where the big sand dunes are used for ATV activity. It's really the middle of nowhere. And we were appalled by those gas prices then, it used to be 25 cents a gallon just about 10 years earlier.
Sowing the Seeds of Love would be a great follow up to this song. 😁❤️
Great reaction! Such a smooth and skilled band, still one of my favorites. Head Over Heels and Sowing the Seeds of Love are my other two favorites that you should absolutely listen to.
Thank you for this reaction. You're amazing, don't ever stop being you. This song broke out the year I got my drivers license and I drove the entire summer to this song. You could say it was an anthem for the high-school kids of that time, and the 80's youth in general. Semi-random... That guitar work in the second half of the bridge is subtle and nuanced, but completely outstanding. Anyway, again, thank you.
I wish I could rediscover Tears for Fears for the first time. One of the biggest acts of the 80s and 90s. The album this came from "Songs from the Big Chair" was one of the biggest hits of the 80s. Other singles on it included Shout, Head Over Heels and Mother's Talk. Their following album (The Seeds of Love) was to me a masterpiece with a significant evolution in sound and production quality. On that, you need to react to the title song but especially Woman in Chains which to me is one of their best ever songs. It really was a great time to be alive, especially as a musician. When this came out in 1985, I was 20 and my band covered songs like this ;) Have fun discovering them! I love your channel and you! :)
⏯️ I wore this album out! But I have no recollection of ever seeing this video. But my access to music television was pretty geographically limited during this time. Joe Walsh (one of my personal top 5 guitarists) shouted out this guitarist as one of his favorite 'up and coming musicians' at the time. I was already a fan of what I heard but that solidified their space in my mind. I hope you enjoy digging into their catalog. I'm not sure if this will make sense to anyone but for me their music is perfectly balanced. Like the motivation behind every decision is absent of bravado and made the sake of the song.
Curt and Roland both share lead vocals. Most often, it's their harmonies that distinguish them from other bands. Head over heels, woman in chains and Sowing the seeds of love are great songs. Mad World and Shout have both been massive on their own, and as covers. (Gary Jules and Disturbed respectively.).
