Thier song Monday Monday has more of their amazing harmonies. You'll love it.
So much music history connected with this group, Aileen! The guy with the guitar is John Phillips who had been a member of a moderately successful Folk group called The Journeymen. Meanwhile, Cass Elliot (who hated being called "Mama Cass" as it reminded her of her weight issues) and lead singer Denny Doherty had been in another Folk group called The Mugwumps. The fourth member is Michelle Phillips, John's wife. Despite the happiness in the footage shown, there was a lot of strife within the group which guaranteed they wouldn't last long together. That said, in their short time together, The Mamas and the Papas produced some gorgeous songs. California Dreamin', Monday Monday, Twelve-Thirty, I Saw Her Again Last Night and several more. In addition, John Phillips was instrumental in organising the legendary 1967 Monterey Pop Festival which saw the breakthrough performances of The Who, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin into the public eye as well as bringing Otis Redding into the national charts from being a top act on only the R&B charts. A very old friend of John's was Scott McKenzie and John wrote and produced Scott's biggest hit, San Francisco, which briefly turned him into a major star. After the group broke up, Cass Elliot was the only member to have solo hits and her Dream A Little Dream is a wonderful showcase for her gorgeous voice. Cass had the voice of an angel, yet could also sing down and dirty blues with a growl you'd not expect. She was an amazing talent taken too soon. It was at Cass's house that she introduced David Crosby, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash to each other and prodded them to sing together. Each had been in major bands of their own so the formation of Crosby Stills and Nash was arguably the first 'supergroup' and their catalogue of music is also a testament to beautiful harmonies and great songwriting. The legacy of The Mamas and the Papas goes far beyond just fantastic music.

The 60' and 70's were the best of times. Miss those years.
This is one of those songs that are unearthly beautiful. Classic among classics.
The definitive hippy anthem, love and peace man…
“Monday, Monday” next! You’ll love the harmonies.

Thank you, Miss Aileen❣ I remember seeing them sing California Dreaming on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1966. I was 8 years old and my folks had just recently purchased our first color TV. Such great memories. I enjoy all of your reactions, but there are some that just take me back 40, 50, even 60 years ago. Thank you again.
Their harmonies are magical. One of the true classics.
This just goes to show you are a wild flower child at heart.
Absolutely killer vocals all the way around. Another massive hit with the Wrecking Crew creating the musical backdrop.

Can I add their song, "She's Not There"? to your request? Lol
I was born in 1970 and I had lots of exposure to music from the 60s and 70s (my favorite eras). It seemed like every new song that was played on the radio amazed me. In the 80s, the music sounded more commercial but still had its qualities and charm. Much of the 90s music depressed me but many grunge and alternative rock bands had a wealth of intelligent lyrics. After that, I can only think of a handful of songs that I really loved. I miss having an experience with music on a feeling level.
the harmonies, the recording, the production...just creates a unique mood
This is hands down one of the best songs ever. Awesome reaction as always Aileen, keep smiling that smile!

do not go overboard lots of great songs out there.
Halifax born and lead vocalist, Denny Doherty became an entertainer for children in 1993, becoming the Harbour Master on the Canadian version of Thomas the Tank Engine (Shining Time Station), "Theodore Tugboat." His role was similar to Ringo Starr and George Carlin from Thomas the Tank Engine where he describes a story, and it is played out through Theodore and the other types of boats in the harbour with a lesson to be learned.
Possibly one of the greatest recordings in pop history!
Another great band from the 60s who were only together for a short time. I would also recommend you check out their other songs especially "Dedicated to the one I love", "Monday, Monday" and "Words of Love". Great reaction video Aileen.
Lost Mama Cass way to early 😢
Yay!!! I'm excited for your love to this song!
Such a beautiful Classic and definitely one of these tracks that is like a time capsule opening the vibe of the time. I am so happy you reacted to this. You are always so radiant, sweet and beautiful in every way Hun. 🌹🌹🖤🖤🖤🖤
Hauntingly beautiful...Fall is the most depressing season to me, as it seems everything's ending. This song captures the feeling, the distance in the tone and melodies of memories.

Beautifully put. This song always makes me sad.
One of the most nostalgia-inducing songs from the 60s, very difficult not to be engulfed with sadness for earlier, better times.
Will be my first hearing this artist with you and going off of the thumbnail alone, it’s gonna be such a cute reaction 🥹 The fact you haven’t stopped smiling so far as I’m typing this out says enough 🖤
The music of the late 60s was soft and loving. There was a reason we had "Love-Ins" and the San Francisco's Haight-Asbury area. The songs all had to be 3 minutes or less for AM radio if you wanted them on the Top 40 stations. Finally after The Beatles Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album, new stations were started on the new FM band which catered to longer music. No one knew if they would even be successful as most people did not have FM radios., plus you couldn't have as may ads due to the length fo the songs.
One of my favorites listening to my dad’s classic rock radio station growing up
It was a great time to be young. Thanks for playing this, Aileen.
The blonde girl Michelle Phillips became an actress and starred in TV drama "Knots Landing'. Her daughter China is famous for the 1990 hit "HOLD ON" with her band Wilson Phillips. You MUST react to the video for Hold On, one of the most inspiring pop songs ever!
"Dedicated to the one I love" by the Mamas and the Papas. Beautiful harmonies!

This is the best music, from most of my life I've known this beautiful tune. I feel so comfortable after hearing this unreal sound
John and Michelle Phillips had a daughter named Chyna who was in a harmony group with the daughters of the Beach Boys Brian Wilson called Wilson Phillips. They continued in the same harmonious tradition as their parents. "Hold On" would be a good song to start with.

Yep! Just starting with this song one could go on a deep musical ride for many many days. The connections and absolutely top tier musicianship that is connected to these 4 is enormous.
Totally check out a song called The Time of the Season by a group called The Zombies. Same ethereal feel to it.
Welcome to the 60s, glad you enjoyed the Mamas & the Papas. A similar band that I think you would equally enjoy is the 5th Dimension. "One Less Bell to Answer" or "Wedding Bell Blues."
The intro melody always gets me it’s such an amazing opening and such an amazing song
Cass and John Denver singing 'Leaving On A Jet Plane' is a great song. Their voices went together very well!
Monday, Monday was probably their next biggest hit and is the one to listen to next.
Huge hit at the time. I remember watching this very performance the night it was on TV. They have a whole string of hit songs from the 60's..
Aileen. This is what the 60s/70s was all about. Beautiful music
Youre so sweet. I.m so glad music from the past produces in you what it has done and still does for us. Beautiful reaction.
During the movie 'Congo', as the story progresses we find our main characters on a journey through Africa with hired porters singing songs from their own culture in their own dialect. At one point the main protagonist sitting alone as camp is being packed up in the morning begins singing this song to himself out loud. The magic begins when the porters nearby pick up the tune and others join in singing it. It's a short but wonderful scene.
Mama's and the Papa's are absolutely a wonderful singing group. Sad to say that's all they will ever be nothing more. Mama Michelle Phillips is the only member that is still alive. Mama Cass lived a life that was not kind to her and in 1974 she died of a heart attack at the young age of 32. At different times she had a crush on the two men of the group. Cass was in love with Denny and she proposed to him. Unfortunately he turned her down...OUCH. Denny had a thing with Mama Michelle Phillips. Even though Michelle Phillips was already married to John Phillips. So there was some tension between the two mama's. Mama Cass didn't think it was right for Michelle to go after Denny when she is already married to John. And also felt that Michelle could have any guy in the world. Papa John Phillips is the father to actress MacKenzie Phillips. He has a lot of drama accusations and controversy behind his name. He drank alcohol with his daughter did some pills and some coke. At 19 his daughter MacKenzie reported that her father raped her and got her pregnant meaning "Incest". There isn't any proof. Unfortunately that caused quite a big divide in the Phillips family between MacKenzie and her other relatives. To this day there is no family relationship between her and a few others... Music group Fact- Mama's and the Papa's are related to 80's girl group. Wilson Phillips and one member of the Beach Boys Brian Wilson...
I've said it before Aileen and I'll say it again. I wish I could take you by the hand and lead you back through time with me to the 60's and 70's. So much good music. So much nostalgia. Thank you.

It’s been used in movies quite a bit and that might be influencing me, but this feels like one of the most paradigmatic songs of the ‘60s. The vibes!!!
Mama Cass. Such a wonderful voice. The whole group is beautiful and amazing.
Have a listen to the group Wilson Phillips with their biggest hit 'Hold On', this group had Wendy Wilson and Carnie Wilson, the daughters of Brian Wilson from The Beach Boys and Chynna Phillips, the daughter of John and Michelle Phillips from The Mamas & The Papas
This song makes me smile every single time! I loved seeing your smile and the warm fuzzies in your reaction! Goosebumps!!
I loved their sound and I think their first album is the first I ever bought along with The McCoys just so I'd have "Hang on Sloopy" to dance to while cleaning my apartment. Fun times for sure. Thank you for your reaction.
Such a nice easy wibe. Thank you Aileen. As you have been watching some of the great progressive masterpieces I thought to suggest to you my favorite proge band from Finland, Kingston Wall- Shine On Me and it has a excellent live performance from the mid 90's. I hope you enjoy it and to anyone who reads this to have a amazing weekend. ❤❤❤
Full disclosure: I always click the like button before your video even starts playing. I already know for a fact I'm going to supremely enjoy your soothing voice, your interesting viewpoints on the music and the most impossibly adorable stank face whenever the tune is hittin'. It's a sure bet.

By the way, if you want another absolutely gorgeous classic that will make you angry because it's so short, hit up God Only Knows by the Beach Boys.
Aileen, so glad you enjoyed this one. It was pretty much the anthem on the 60's. Cass Elliot (Mama Cass) was at the very center of the Laurel Canyon music scene that nurtured SO many musical stars of the 60's and 70's. Thank you for sharing this one. 🙂 Monday, Monday might be a good next song for you to try of theirs. I think you'll like it too.
Now you've seen the singers (especially Mama Cass) you should check out Janis Joplin's live performance of "Ball and chain" at Monterey. (if you have not seen that performance yet) She will blow you away with her performance and she'll show you why she is still such a big deal today, nobody ever came close to Janis' "fire". Ty for the lovely reaction to The Mamas & The Papas :)

My favorite song from them. Love this jam. Cool video too. Oldie but goodie here. . Old school classic. 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
Another beautiful 60's song is "The Seekers - I'll never find another you (1968)" (title on KZread) This song has a beautiful melody and Judith Durham's singing is wonderful! Six and twelve string guitars and an upright bass and 3 more good voices round out a beautiful sound.
all time classic song! ♥
Aileen, a little interesting tid-bit regarding the singer in Mamas and Papas (Mama Cass)… A little while ago you reacted to Janis Joplin performing Ball And Chain. Toward the end, the camera panned a couple times to someone in the audience with her mouth agape in awe. THAT was Mama Cass. I have watched so many reactors to that song and comments on how in awe she was, but nobody ever recognises her.
Peter, Paul and Mary and their 'Puff the Magic Dragon' is a style like this that is super.
Rock on Aileen 🤘🎸🎶😊
Grew up listening to the mamas and the papas with my parents. This song is a VIBE
I really like your videos! A lot of diversity of music genre and genuine reactions. Keep up the good work 🤩😊
What a great reaction to a great song. It's just nice to hear a young reactor explain what our music feels like to them... caused me to subscribe! THANKS!
Its a fun and beautiful and musically impressive song! Loved your reaction!
This is the second time I've searched for a reaction to a song, and you have only just uploaded one in the last few days. I guess I have to subscribe now
Classic pop rock group with amazing harmonies. And Mama Cass, one of the great singers. Wikipedia calls them a Folk rock group, but they featured greatly in the Top 40 and seemed more pop then folk. Now Crosby, Stills, Nash, and (sometimes) Young are more my idea of folk rock. For another of M 5 P's song try "Monday Monday."
Love the Call & Answer style of their music
The Association is a similar group to the Mama’s and Papa’s with two monster hits in “Cherish” and “Windy” that you should react to.
1964-1979 Such Amazing Singer/Songwriter Music 🎶 🎵 😊
Great vocals in this song
In the studio, they got to the break and John wasn’t sure how to fill it. He walked around and found a well known flute player (I forget who it was) who said he’d give it a go. It was ad-lib’d.
You are really tuning in to the essence of my generation. We changed a lot in the world and this music was at the heart of it. The world today is so much different than that world of the '40s - '70s.
They don't make songs like this anymore... Its a song that will never grow old . Marvellous 😎

Iconic of mid to late 1960s . Denny and Cass were among the absolute best in vocal skills. John was a very fine song writer. As you say, along with Michelle, this group comes together to make a delightful sound.
Hello Aileen. I just want to say Thank You for playing my requests from Monday's live metal twitch stream. I had a good time. And also thank you for having a beautiful heart. You make the world a much better place.
Love your reaction videos of music I grew up on. Thank you❤
Classic. The harmonies are amazing.
LOVE IT!
Trend setters!! Diana Krall does a great jazzy version of this with a David Foster arrangement.
Monday Monday is another one of their hits
Denny Doherty (RIP) was from Nova Scotia, Canada, home of such greats as Anne Murray and Hank Snow among others.
This is a good one! The Beach Boys covered this in 1986 on their live comeback tour.
I grew up and lived in SoCal all my life until last year. Watching the rain here in the Puget Sound and feeling homesick.😢
The Mamas and The Papas, "Monday Monday", "Dedicated To The One I Love" & "Dream A Little Dream Of Me". The Birds, "Eight Miles High", "Mr. Tambourine Man" & "Turn, Turn, Turn" ✌️❤️🌹
Another classic that reminds me of driving south on the 101 turning into the 5 to visit grandparents.
They did a song called "Creeque (Creek) Alley", which is kind of a little mini-history of the folk music scene in America at the time.
This song always makes me smile and puts me in a good mood.
Aileen. This was one of the most iconic song of the late 1960s when I was only 9 or 10 yrs old. You wouldn't believer how incredibly popular it was. My parents loved this band so we heard them a lot. Great job, Aileen. Keep up the nice work, channel!
This is a classic! If you want gorgeous harmonies, please do Leaving on a Jet Plane live with Cass Elliot( girl in the Mamas and Poppas with the darker hair). You will love it,and yes ,you will tear up from the sheer joy of it!
The Beach Boys did an amazing cover of this, in 1986.
Magical music. Ethereal and other worldly! Wow
Love Mama Cas. Have you ever heard a British group called Portishead? They have some songs I think you will love. Glory Box, Roads, Mysterons... Anything off the album Dummy basically. Ik you like live stuff and their performance at Roseland NY is on youtube.
Oh Yes!!❤️❤️
Can’t go wrong with the Mamas and Papa’s
Be sure to catch Cass Eliott and John Denver in their duet performance of "Leaving on a Jet Plane". Another group from this period with similar amazing harmonies is "The Association" which produced some of the most amazing love songs. For example, you might consider the song, "Everything That Touches You"... Great reaction as always. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing your joy in experiencing this very joyful song! Also, though your channel brings us lots of great new music, 🎶 it’s nice that you also reach back into music history. ✌️
