Sarah Billy Joel wrote and recorded this song. The original Sax Player on the album was the legendary Phil Woods. I was 15 when I had the privilege as a Sax Player to study with Phil for 6 months. I went on to play professionally for 15 years and was always a huge Billy Joel fan! Take care.🎷🙏🏼🇺🇸

I was 16 in 1973 when Billy Joel’s first album came out, “Piano Man.” (He actually had another album before this, but that’s a long story. No one got to hear it.) Anyway… So I’ve been pretty lucky, enjoying this musical genius for 50 years.

It is a beautiful song! Yes a good relationship is based on truth. I had a man who loved me like that. I loved him the same. Flaws and all. Never attempt to change anyone. Find the one who is the way you want already and love them everyday. My love left 13 years ago too soon, 56 yrs old. Billy Joel was one of his favorite entertainers!

Billy Joel is a great singer songwriter & composer from the 70's-90's. He is one of the best-selling music artists of all time. The whole "Stranger" album is great. "Just The Way You Are" is my favorite song from that album. Other songs are "Movin' Out (Anthony's Song)", "Only The Good Die Young", "She's Always A Woman", "Scenes From An Italian Restaurant" etc.

Billy took this tempo too fast, it was slower on the recorded version. "Just The Way You Are" is the song that made Billy an international superstar. It won both Song of the Year and Record of the Year in 1978 at the Grammy Awards and was probably the most frequently played song on the radio in 1977. Millions of newlyweds played it at their weddings. Billy is playing electric piano here.

In the early 70s I listened to a weekly live radio broadcast from the Union Station nightclub in Memphis. That’s when I first heard Piano Man, Captain Jack, the Legend of Billy the Kid, all great songs from his up and coming breakout album as he played for a small room audience. I bought the LP immediately. Years later we had tickets to see Joel live in a 2400 seat auditorium. Only half the seats were sold, sparse turnout. Billy walks out on stage, shields his bulging eyes (a condition he had at the time) acknowledges the anxious crowd, and says, “Well, it’s quality, not quantity”. Then proceeds to blow the roof off with an enthusiastic, almost acrobatic performance. Six months later, Just the Way You Are is a mega hit and he sells out stadiums the rest of his life.

35 years married and I will always love her, just the way she is. "I love you just the way you are." I said this to my wife before I asked her to marry me. Times change, over the decades life have changed us, but I still love her just the way she is. We went to one of his concerts and when he sang this song I took her hand. His song flowed through you, awesome reaction.

Billy did this in concert when we saw in at Safe Co Field (it has a new name) several years ago. He played his ENTIRE Greatest Hits volumes 1,2, and 3 except for 3 songs. Oh, then we got to vote between a couple...I can't remember which ones we didn't hear to be honest.Oh, he threw in a few of covers too, being in the city of Jimi , Heart,etc...FABULOUS!!! His VOICE, unlike Elton & MACCA has HELD UP wonderfully! This in from 1977 but he sounds the same.

I love your reactions, and Billy Joel is the GOAT. That said, I'm a little troubled by the defensiveness of this and some of his other songs--he seems to keep worrying that he has given his SOs reason to think he doesn't trust them, and he seems a little resentful that they don't get what a nice guy (TM) he is. This song, "It's a Matter of Trust," "Innocent Man," maybe others. So I feel like there's a back story we're not hearing where he isn't so sweet
