His little boy fell to his death and this song was written right after the tragedy. I tear up every time I hear it. It was a real tragedy…😢

Yeah, I can't imagine that. I have a 5-year-old boy and couldn't handle that. Mr. Clapton was out working, making money, doing his thing. He dealt with it the only way he could; by voice and music. G-D Bless his son Conor..
This was written for is 4 years old son Connor after he was killed when he fell out of a highrise in New York
I have no idea how he can even sing this song. I'd be bawling before I got the first sentence out

A father’s agony put to words.
He wrote this song for his 4 year old son, who die falling from high rise building , very tragic 😢
I've been listening to this song since it came out and it still brings tears to my eyes
The best songs are created from a place of great emotion.
What a tragic story behind this Sarah. And also to think that he was on his way to take his son to the zoo. The other comments tell the story so i am not going to repeat it. Such a tragic loss and i am sure he still feels it and lives with it.
I'm an old fart, to see your reactions to the music of my generation is truly heart warming. From the Beatles to Clapton and beyond, you're experiencing what helped enrich our lives. You are making a powerful testimony. God bless you.

@@rickroden7666 We were lucky yeah?
My wife was at a funeral last year and Eric Clapton was their to play it for his friend Gary Brooker who the funeral was for. My wife said it was beautiful I dont know how he can play it and not cry
Beautiful, touching song. So sad about his little boy 😢🙏
If this song doesn't bring tears, even not knowing the story behind it, then there is no heart to you.
I've loved Eric's music ever since he was in the Yardbirds but this song hits hard because it's so personal for him.
Hi Sarah thank you so much! I haven't listened to this song for about 30 years. Back then, we had it played on the radio every hour of the day because it was such a big hit. Watching your sensitive reaction to the music you were suggested really motivates me to look for another song to suggest to you. Thanks so much again.
Hits a lot differently since I lost my sweet mama last year
I love your expressions during the music you play, thank you for the many memories you bring to me, I am old!😅
I've never listened to this once without crying. I just can't.
The unplugged album is phenomenal, especially if you like blues. Going acoustic was a big change for him, his reputation was built on electric guitar. The whole MTV unplugged concert (1992) is a real treat, mainly his spin on blues classics plus acoustic remakes of his own hits Layla and Running on Faith. His band was excellent.
Such a beautiful touching song.
So love your honest heartfelt emotions. Don’t change.
Such a beautiful sad song! Love this stripped down unplugged version with just Eric & his guitar.
Sarah, I love it when you sing along....you have a beautiful voice.❤
Hi Ms. Sarah, A Great emotional song.. ♠Mr.G..
Don't know if you are aware of the true backstory on this song... Clapton's young son died from a fall out of a window in NY City. Sad story.

Yes I know , poor little guy. bless his heart. But no blessing for Eric, he was a bad husband and womanizer.
Beautiful reaction. Thank you.
Right after this accident his good friend, Phil Collins, wrote a song about the tragedy called 'Since I Lost You'. Eric cried when he heard it and then sang 'Tears In Heaven' for Phil to hear. Touching.
Hey Sarah, another great reaction. It’s always a pleasure watching you do your thing! 👍👍❤️
Sarah you are such a kind soul! You're so in tune with the music.
Such a beautiful and sad song.
Saddest reason for this song. I couldn't imagine!
It was really something to see your reaction, without you even knowing what the song was about.
Eric lost his young son to a fall out of a window and he put his feelings to words. There is an interview where he goes into details about it. Very sad and Eric lived with some guilt for many years he said.
I heard this song back in early 1992 when it was released..... and thought I was empathising with Eric Clapton losing his child..... but since losing my own child (and wife) by accident in late 1995..... I remind myself how naive I was and kinda wish I was again.
I lost my grown son last month. This song gets me right in the feels. 😢😢😢

So sorry for you. I lost my first son to just orneriness. He decided I was not in his life anymore and just quit responding to my calls and letters. I'll never know why. We had a great relationship till his fiancee died, then he changed all over. She fell off a boat and bled to death. I had absolutely nothing to do with it, and went to offer him my love and a shoulder. He accepted me then, and then just wrote me out of his life.

Awwww.... I'm sorry. I hope he changes his mind one day.
I always wonder if the film "What Dreams May Come" with Robin Williams and Annabella Sciorra was inspired by this wonderful song?
If heaven does exist, I think everyone there will be thinking they don't belong.
This is about his little boy who died
Hi Sarah. I love your reactions. I’m new here so not sure if you did this one or want to but I would love to see your reaction to Boston - “More Than A Feeling “
Yes it was very tragic about his son and it inspired him to dedicate this song to his son.
One of the saddest songs i can remember.
He lost his 3 year old child before writing this song.
He's the best guitarman ever.
Honestly, given the backstory of this song, I don't know how Eric Clapton ever performed it -- live or in the studio -- without breaking up. I can't get through listening to it without shedding a few tears, and I didn't know his son.
Aren't we all lucky that Christ died on the cross for us. Truth be told none of us deserve to spend eternity in heaven. THANK YOU GOD!
😢
Wenn ich das Lied höre, denke ich an meine Eltern, die Himel aus zu gucken, was ich so mache.
He wrote this song for his little boy who died
I believe he came up on the scene and ignored that was his son. I guess out of shame that this had just happened to a rock star. I may be wrong but Eric is probably on record to give the actual account❤
Poor little Conner should have never even existed. His mom was pregnant with Eric's baby while he was still married to Patty Boyd. Sorry for little Conner.

Maybe you can help me! I'm desperately searching for the right word to characterize your comment. In the german language we call this "widerlich" or "ekelhaft", so i'm asking myself, is it "disgusting", "repulsing" or even "sickening"? I guess "lousy" comes a bit to short. So maybe you can help and give us a little insight into your fucked-up view of the world...
