He's got a wide range of song styles, tempos, themes, attitudes and so on. I recommend River of Dreams (with official video), Matter of Trust (official video - - a lot of fun), We Didn't Start the Fire (video), Big Shot (official video or live), Goodnight Saigon (video or live), Pressure (original recording is best). That's a pretty good start.

Written by Billy Joel. Produced by the late Phil Ramone. Billy Joel has the upper range 😃. Sax solo. 😃 The lush orchestration (strings and/or synthesizer) starts with I'm Not in Love written by Eric Stewart and Graham Gouldman in 1975. That song led to this song in 1977 (45 years ago 🎂). This song led to Waiting for a Girl Like You 👧, written by Lou Gramm and Mick Jones, produced by Mick Jones and Mutt Lange in 1981, which led to Drive written by the late Ric Ocasek, produced by him , the rest of The Cars and Mutt Lange. RIP Phil Ramone and Ric Ocasek. 4 great 👍 songs . 2 of them produced by Mutt Lange. All of them are still played often in radio 📻 around the world 🌎. I suggest that you react to the others on this list of influences. Suggested next Billy Joel video 📹 Honestly. Good 👍 video 📹 reaction 😆

This is from one of those super iconic albums: Born to Run, Bridge over troubled Water come to mind. Maybe only a couple B-sides [old 45 rpm joke] out on the song list. I was at a Joel concert like 1978 doing the whole album, and in a regional theatre that would present travel company Broadway shows. A really nice, acoustical quality, so the sound was marvelous. We got lucky, the album had just started to break out, so like on the ground floor of its success and the whole "oh wow" thing for album, it's that good... We were there as much because of "Piano Man"

What I have found is a good singer doesn't have to be "loud" to be great. It's all in their style and how they make the song their own. Gordon Lightfoot is an awesome singer too and he's never loud. Check out Gordon's "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald".

Billy Joel is the George Gershwin of his generation. One of the few that really knew his music theory and jazz chords/progressions and how to use them, even in his rock songs, and still write excellent themes, and lyrics, never getting bogged down by just one style of music. An all around expert talent. Something extremely lacking in corporate controlled computer controlled music of today, with a few exceptions like Norah Jones, Adelle...i recommend listening to Lullaby [Goodnight My Angel]...in light of the recent school shooting in Texas, it may break your heart.

"don't change the color of your hair", it's unbelievable how many girls today, or boys for that matter, have their hair dyed in so many unnatural colors trying to change what they are, people have learned to not be happy or accept who they are and find the God given happiness in it and ty to change everything about themselves, what a lesson this song is to the people of this day and time. Love each other for who they are, not what they look like.

So there was a joke made about the idea that he wrote this song when he was dating Christie Brinkley; "I want you just the way you are"...she was a super model, one of the most attractive/sexy women in this era, so was he really making much of a sacrifice in accepting her just the way she was?? (lol). Cheers guys, hope you're well.

Actually, Billy Joel didn't know Christie Brinkley when he wrote this song. The song was released in 1977 and Joel and Brinkley first met in 1983. He actually wrote the song for his first wife (and business manager) Elizabeth Weber.
