What a day living in the world's northernmost town looks like | Longyearbyen, SVALBARD

Is that a bit of light I see?! A day in my life finally coming out of the darkness of the polar night here on Svalbard, an archipelago close to the North Pole! As it gets brighter, it gets so much more beautiful! In this video we get some stuff done at home with the incredible views and then we head into town to have lunch at a hotel and go shopping at the supermarket! I hope you enjoy this video! :)

My father was working on Svalbard in the summer of 1965. He was a scientist on a famous expedition. Because of that I've always had a special relation to Svalbard. All the stories and old pictures. He later went their as a tourist but never after I was born. I have to visit some day.

I watched today's video while my friend was here. She's not a TV watcher, she prefers to watch things on KZread. She had never heard of your channel. Well, let's just say you now have a new subscriber. She was in awe of the landscape and moonlight, and once she saw Grim - that did it - she was hooked. When you were outside with Grim, she asked "Is that a bird tweeting?" I said no, that's just Grim performing his bird impressions. 😁 🐦

It’s crazy to me that Svalbard is so isolated and so well-serviced. Our Canadian North is terribly equipped and serviced. Yes, it’s much more vast…but..a gallon of orange juice is $35, and..the communities go without soooo much (like, no fresh fruit)

It is impressive what they have on their island. I think because they are able to have ships bring supplies in year-round, it gives them a big advantage over Canada's and Alaska's northern towns that are airplane dependent. I watched a video on grocery shopping in Barrow Alaska, and it was crazy the prices they pay compared to Longyearbyen.

Many years ago they had bread slicers at grocery stores here in Toronto, Canada. They also used to have (I think a few still do have) coffee bean grinders where you just scoop the beans you want grind them up in the machine. But I think there must be some cross-contamination of bean grinds as the machines aren't cleaned between grinds (that I recall).

Hanging the bedding outside in the cold is a wonderful idea I am now doing that too on my deck overlooking the ocean in the forest. We get lots of cold wind when.it’s now raining here on the Oregon coast and it really makes everything crisp and beautiful! Such a good idea!

Your subsciber numbers are really rising. Congratulations. Funny how I'm drawn to see life in Longyearbyen. Likely to appreciate the climate in my beautiful California. And funny that the ads before the video are of tropical vacations. Thank you Cecilia.

💕💜💕TYFS!!! Love how the moon reflects off the water! You inspire me so much, especially starting the wood stove, my Gene passed away last September and now building a fire in our wood stove is now my job and I have gotten quite good at it! I would love to visit Svalbard! It is a beautiful city but I am in Oregon in the USA🤣!! I would need to talk a family member into traveling with me💕I love how your remodel turned out, your kitchen is awesome!! You guys take care and enjoy the extra daylight every day🥰💜🥰

Always gorgeous. Yay for the beautiful blue light! Enjoy! I'm still envious you can air your bedding out in the clean, crisp arctic air. I love the idea of lagom except when it comes to natural beauty. There's NEVER enough of that. I collect polar bear stuff and would go crazy in that shop.

I can understand your pain in cold winds. I live in Manitoba Canada less than an hour from the US border and this morning at 8 a.m. it was -32C with a windchill of -45. We are hearty Canadians!

Would you be able to talk about the ocean in front of your home? I don’t remember many times you have walked on the beach or are you not allowed? What about creating a jetty/walkway to have your boat? What activities are you allowed to do in the bay? Or is it to close to the airport to allow free movement? You also mentioned about some sewage being piped there. Interested to know what happens with your ?grey Water. 😊

So happy to see you're starting to get some lovely blue light! I'm sure it makes a big difference. In Toronto, Canada, we get down to daylight from 8 am to about 430 at Christmas. But now we are back to roughly 730 to nearly 6 pm! Hope this helps the seasonal blahs.
