About a third of the way in, Herzog starts playing all the hits, anecdote-wise, and he's a delight as usual.

saw him give a talk in dublin recently....definitely something ill never forget....fascinating guy

it's cool how many clips werner asks to be pulled up, he's really in love with the things he's captured and the life behind them

Dosnt work without the clips , which is a shame I was looking forward to he is intriguing.

Herzog and Fricke used to paly football after an argument about soundtracks, they played in a very violent way, Herzog insist about "read, read" and Fricke about "meditation".

This was possibly the most interesting Herzog interview; his use of music. His use of music is phenomenal, but the interviewer doesn't delve into anything! There's no relation between music and emotion in reference to the characters. Herzog's use of music is sublime but the interviewer just fires out "Tell me about... " time after time. Not one mention of Richard Thompson's work in Grizzly Man, the only reference to Guesaldo is brought up by himself.... Interviewer not up to the sans level as his guest.

So bizarre listening to Werner Herzog speak about Popol Vuh & Florian Fricke. I was a teen and got heavily into Krautrock in the early 70’s.

I don't think it's so bizarre considering Fricke/Vuh scored so many of his best films... I'm a big fan of krautrock myself tho, havent watched this yet but hoping to hear Herzog namedrop other german acts of the time. Love Can, Neu!, Kraftwerk, Faust, Harmonia etc etc

I know what he means by the music has to create space..Brian eno's music for example creates space..space for the imagery.. its disappointing that whenever he plays something to the audience we don't get to hear it

Bird of Paradise: the naming of birds living mainly in New Guinea and neighboring islands. They are noted for their beauty and splendor of their plumage, but in all areas very much like the crow family. They are rather small bids. The beauty only belongs to the male birds, and only to them when they are vrown. They are active and feed mainly on insects, though one feeds on the nector of flowers. The largest great bird of paradise is the largest kind, measuring a foot and a half in length. He analogized going to Mars like locusts sweeping the earth and leaving for the next. A philisophical perspective indeed, however he did say to Musk in person that he wants to go to Mars to make a documentary.

Why are the most important things cut out - the video and audio examples? ...without them it's useless to listen the conversation

Posting this without all the examples he is talking about is kinda pointless

Because it is. Perhaps not for the artist in question, but for the benefit of posterity and progeny. If artists worked solely in the interest of immediate recognition and praise, ambitious work would rarely see the light of day. Artists would become people-pleasers and their art would be reflective of such an ideal.

Yeah quality has to go through rejections and indifferences of jealous and envious less talented masses or less hard working with it. So yeah jealous peers and old heads have to die off to truly appreciate alot of advances.
