I wish fifa would allow you to set a defensive formation aswell, that would actually make the game more realistic as it would encourage wide midfielders and wingers to cover and help full backs and Attacking midfielders would be able to drop off, the transition from attacking to defending is hold be smoother

if u play a proper 4-3-3 width is minimanl cos ur playing with 3 up front out and out strikers. basically thesedays 4-3-3 is used in the 4-5-1 way with the wide men slightly higher up the park than usual. at the end of the day 4-5-1 and 4-3-3 are basically the same though apart from the slight difference in positioning of the two wider players

I usually prefer 4-4-2, it gives solidity in defence and midfield and numbers in attack although, depending on the oppsition's system, a 4-5-1 is also good if you have a very good striker. Not a big fan of 4-3-3 but can be useful for some teams depending on players available
