Weight Difference BBC Head V/S SBC Head

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I've asked several people what the weight difference was from SBC to BBC and it seems answers are all over the place. So I just happened to have some heads here and threw them on the scale to see the difference. Aluminum SBC Profiler heads v/s Aluminum BBC AFR Heads. Not gonna lie, I was expecting a bigger difference........ Guess the difference before I show you!

@@warrencwwatts3994 What world of delusion are you living in? Just cause Dodge calls every fucking thing under the sun a hemi now, doesn't mean its a true hemi like the old school ones. They even wanted to call one of their 4 cylinder engines "HEMI inspired" with the inspired in super small letters under HEMI.

When I went from small block to big block there was a 180 lb difference. Bothe iron block and aluminum head. And the big block held two extra gallons of water.

John, spend about $40 ebay and get a set of remote display scales. They measure down to the ounce and some even weight 1/10th of an ounce. As you know, in drag racing, EVERY BIT OF WEIGHT makes a difference.

You'll probably end up adding 150-170lbs going from a small block to a big block, but you gain the ability to support another 500hp pretty easy.. so the weight is worth the gains

You should have weighed cast heads . The original cast heads are a ton heavier . It would have been nice if you did that comparison . Allso intakes . Maybe another day . Love ur show brother , can't wait to see ur new car going

12+ lbs doesn’t sound like a ton, but it’s almost 50% heavier. Probably looking at 150-175lbs more for the dressed longblock of BBC over SBC. Worth the tradeoff for sure unless you are in a class that isn’t min weight limited at all.

Still 25lbs extra for a set of bb heads...that's a lot when you add everything else up too.

They can be all different weights depending on many different things like cast, billets solids even down to the type of valves and springs you’re running so you have to do apples to apples

I think its Funny, you already decided that you're gonna run the Big Block. I STILL STICK2 MY GUNS....You will regret going Big Block Chevrolet in my opinion. Yes, i kn if you have Tons of $$$, obviously more cubes will make more powa. But...i jus think you'll regret BBC. I think you should go LS OR Ford small , like Randy's combination. But...i love the content, im a Fan regardless of if you heed my advice. Keep up the Good content 🎉

LS can’t hold heads on over 2000 HP due to not enough head bolts. Randy has had nothing but trouble with his small block Ford. John is making the right decision. Try telling Ryan Mitchell he made the wrong decision running a BBC. Nobody wins more than his Firebird.

@@danmyers9372 Doesn't he run a 5.3 in it some of the time though? Or is that all a joke? If he does run the 5.3 sometimes, I'm guessing that is when he figures the surface is just going to be a mess with no ability to put down much power.

I used to work with an old timer drag racer, always ran BBC, he always said "The Bigger it is, the Faster it'll go" That always stuck with me, and in my own personal experience with my car, the bigger engines always went faster. So yes, I'm definitely all in with your choice on the Big Block, don't think you'll regret it like this guy's saying, i think it's a better choice than a LS set-up, just cause it can always go much bigger if needed.
