Weigh Safe's NEW HITCH! Areo Hitch Review

Weigh safe continues to be innovative in the tow hitch industry. One of the coolest new innovations is the clam shell ball adapter. This Weigh Safe Aero hitch is made of steel and in this configuration has a 6" drop and a 2" ball. With the clam shell adapter it can be converted to 2-5/16" tow ball. It has a weight rating of 12,500 lbs and a tongue weight of 1,500 lbs. According to Weigh Safe the clam shell tow ball converter needs to be removed from the 2" ball when a trailer is not attached. Weigh safe hitches have a built-in gage that measures tongue weight to help improve towing performance and safety. The Aero hitch is a new, sleek design that gives move with less. I like the new Aero Hitch. Sleek and less pins than original. Thanks for review.
For reference comparing only 6" drop and 2" shank models The Aero is 19lbs / The Aluminum is 18lbs / The Steel (non aero) is 31lbs / The 180 Degree (non scale) is 16lbs
I just took mine out the box, i hooked it up and my scale isnt moving. Is there some sorta shipping pin the needs to be removed?

No, sounds like you may have received a defective product. I’d reach out to customer support and see what they say.
Is this version made in America like the aluminum model? Amazon page is cagey about it…
How has the Aero held up so far? Not many reviews on it yet.

@@osceolaseminole5596 I ended up getting it for a 3000 mile cross country trip and was happy with it. It doesn't really seem to register under 150lbs tho so if you're doing light loads it's not great. Kinda hard to read the gauge accurately but gave me peace of mind I was within the 10% tolerance. Let me know if there's anything specific you have a question on and I'll answer if I know or have an opinion
Do both the core ball and the shim need to be greased?

Ummm. Something else to forget or lose, then you are screwed. Why not have an option for the larger ball from OEM?

Weigh Safe has lots of hitch options. I think the clamshell design is great for certain users. I think Weigh Safe hit the nail on the head with the Areo. Great hitch with a great price. Excellent entry level hitch without much compromise.
