Garlic Butter Steak Bites Meal Prep
Ingredients -
Steak Bites -
1 Tbsp - Grapeseed Oil
1.25kg (2.7lbs) - Rump Steak, Large Diced
2 Tbsp (28g) - Unsalted Butter
4 - Garlic Cloves, Minced
Pinch Chilli Flakes (Optional)
Salt & Pepper To Taste
Flat Leaf Parsley To Serve
Baby Potatoes -
1.5kg (3.3lbs) - Baby Potatoes Halved
1 - Bulb Roasted Garlic
2 Tbsp (28g) - Unsalted Butter
2g (0.1oz) - Thyme, Chopped
2g (0.1oz) - Parsley, Chopped
2g (0.1oz) - Dill, Chopped
Salt & Pepper To Taste
Garnish -
Flat Leaf Parsley
Sriracha Mayo
Method -
1. Place the halved baby potatoes into a pot of cold salted water, bring to a boil and cook for 15 minutes or until fork tender. Remove and drain. Place the cooked potatoes into a bowl and add the remaining ingredients. Mix to combine and season to taste.
2. Add the grape seed oil and steak in a large pan over medium-high heat. Season well and sear for 2-3 minutes in batches. Transfer to a plate or bowl and repeat any remaining batches.
3. Place the same pan back over medium heat, add the remaining ingredients and cook for 3 minutes, stirring occasionally to create a garlic steak pan butter. Add the cooked steak back to the pan and mix. Check seasoning and remove.
4. Serve the potatoes and garlic steak bites in a 5x 750ml meal prep container. Store in the fridge for up to 4 days and in the freezer for up to 3 months. Reheat in the microwave or pan. Dig in.

    Nice and easy meat ingredients, but I'd skip the baby potatoes and siracha and opt for baked sweet potato and capsicum and no sauce as they'd add the sweetness. Great meal prep recipe Jack. Cheers 👍🤤😀

    Do you try to cook the steak more on the rare side? I always find when I reheat in the microwave the steak becomes too rubbery and overcooked and trying to figure out the best way to reheat this in the microwave. Any recommended microwave settings?

    Question for you, dear Jack: why does it always have to be unsalted butter? When salt does go into the dishes? Does salted butter (which I prefer) not cook well? Could I not simply use it and just reduce the amount of salt added?

  • @ChefJackOvens

    @ChefJackOvens

    You can use salted butter and reduce the amount of salt if you don’t have unsalted butter. I use unsalted to control my seasoning and use better quality ingredients

    G'day Jack, I know this has nothing to do with potatoes, but considering that too much salt is bad for cardiac health I actually don't use salt at all because I don't like the taste), why do chefs drown everything in salt? I've watched all of the top chefs do it eg Ramsay, Oliver, Marco, and you also. Why is that? I always omit it from recipes.

    Just like too much salt is harmful, salt deficiency is also harmful. You probably get enough sodium from other sources, but just FYI. Also, I would guess that most people think that adding salt to food makes it taste better. That's why people who cook (professional chefs and most other people) add salt to food.

  • @courtneymcgregor3417

    @courtneymcgregor3417

    @nazcraz11 I understand that the body needs sodium, in minute amounts. It's in just about in everything we eat. What we get from food generally is more than enough for us at a cellular level (I have a medical background). My parents and grandparents would use salt all the time. It was a must and they'd know the difference. When I used to cook, I would pretend to salt the food. They couldn't tell the difference. It was mind over matter. Quality produce does not need to be salted, and neither does your body.

    @@courtneymcgregor3417Everything we eat? It depends on what you eat. Someone who doesn’t eat many carbs doesn’t retain much water but also secretes trace minerals in their urine and therefore would require more salt to replenish their sodium levels.
