Yep the same brunnera turned all green at my house too. Oh so that's what my new EVERYWHERE weed is, solidago! No wonder in early spring I wondered if they were asters, same family. AND I seem to have 2 types of this. One is smooth on the stems and in my back yard and the other, much more prevalent one is rougher on the stems. They don't pull well in our clay soils and digging them has been the bane of my spring.

Oh, Erin, I laughed when you turned the camera around so as to not show all the tasks in the garden that still need doing. That is so much like my garden at this time of year. So I'm loving your angst...I feel the same! I'm working on a few projects right now readying my garden for a tour next month. I swear you are hilarious. I love your candidness. I'm from Chicago originally but moved from zone 5 to 6b in Holland Mi. I was telling my late husband before we bought our house here in Holland that I needed a larger Garden because my city garden was never going to be big enough for me. Even though I am now on 1/3 of an acre it's okay because I can plant til my arms fall off. My goal is to eliminate the grass as much as possible. Lol. If I'm traveling through Wisconsin which I am a few times a year may I come say hello? It's Mother's Day and you're not a mom but you're not missing anything (my opinion). Haha!

I agree on the metal edging. About 17 years ago, I had a landscaper install it when I had him put in a gravel path and patio. Today, the choices are far better. I'm looking to order Edge Right CorTen edging for other areas. I like that theirs comes in 6" and 8" depths. Maybe that'll keep neighbors' invasive maple tree roots at bay. I'm getting a shallow stock tank because of it and have spray paint to mimic CorTen steel. However, I just learned galvanized metal doesn't take to painting. Vinegar to the rescue. I thought of you, Erin, as I was cleaning up my perennial strip garden in the back yard. The clematis looks so much happier with some trimming, stem rerouting and fertilizer. But the awfully invasive wild campanula (creeping bellflower)... I couldn't determine which was monarda vs the weed. So I'm pulling everything out to start over! I've got more monarda nearby that I can relocate to that spot. I watched my fairly new neighbors dig up a robust rhubarb plant and toss it into their yard waste bin! 😱 At least put it on the curb for someone to take. Clean up in the garden is still taking me a long time to accomplish...and I'm retired. I moved a coralberry shrub to a sunnier spot and was amazed at its growth since I checked on it a week ago. This past week really supported my Minneapolis garden. But I injured myself cutting back invasive plants a former coworker shared many years ago. Note: don't accept "free" plants from friends. I cut my finger with my very sharp Felco no. 2s. I may have to start wearing garden gloves. Owie! 🩸🩸🩸 I probably should have gone to Urgent Care for stitches.

Don’t hate me-this year I “planted” Dollar tree artificial pansies in our prominent front walk container in April. They fool everyone from the sidewalk and I’m ripping them out this weekend and putting in our summer display. I just can’t justify the expense for such a short period of time. Meanwhile, my tulips survived the rats, the daffodils were beautiful, and alliums that were planted 3 years ago, reappeared after being no-shows last year. Chicago gardening has been unusual this year. Oh, and my Brunnera is gorgeous and has doubled in size!

Totally agree about good metal edging. I have invested in Edge Right for a shade bed. It was a big PIA to install (despite what their videos say!) but I haven’t looked back. It is starting to really get rusty, it doesn’t move, it keeps 99.9% of grass and other weeds. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!!!

Morning Erin, your videos have always been great and now you have added to your greatest. Love your casual walks through your garden. Temperatures are all over the place as well, but that being said our spring blooms are hanging on longer which is fantastic. Thanks for your morning stroll. 👍❤️🙂

Erin, Time for another Wine & Weeds? Perhaps w/Laura (How's it Growing) or Jim & Stephanie (Horttube)? 🍷🍾😊
