Agree on the pocket gardens. I realize I have quite a few pocket gardens and it seems easier to manage. One day at a time and satisfaction aling the way.

Hi Erin, Greetings from Charlotte, NC! Many thanks for this fun video. Shopping from your own gardens is very creative and I love the design of this garden. Love me some pocket gardens for sure! Take care. 👌🪴🥰

Unless I have a spot that needs some relatively fast and furious planting, I'll probably never plant cannas again. I planted two Bengal and have chased them up and down the side of my house for years. Anyone who wants any is welcome to dig whenever they like. The Japanese beetles love them too and the flowers get ugly fast.

Well, I thought I was the only one that had a dwarf “Godzilla” Japanese painted fern. Mine has been in my yard for about 3 years and it still only grows about 18” tall. It’s a nice looking fern but not any where close to the size I was led to believe it would grow per the plant tag. If you discover it, let me know the secret to helping it grow to its 2 - 3 foot promised size.

I live in Florida and lanceleaf coreopsis is native, bees love it. I spread it n my wildflower area on purpose by sprinkling seeds around. It hasn’t gotten away from me..yet. I think the rabbits are helping keep it in check. I planted mine in the middle of a patch of amaryllis so when it finishes blooming I hack it back and the messiness is not seen. I’m finding that as long a plant is growing in the right place with the right friends, I’m happy.

I totally agree about the deadnettle I use it in the same way! It's super easy to rip out, unlike vinca! It's my favorite ground cover!

This is my jam right now! My pet project this year is turning an area that shaded/woodlandish in the back of our yard by our shed, into a shade garden. I have absolutely no plan, I just purchase shade tolerating plants as I can afford them. It’s a bit underwhelming right now, but seeing these videos gives me inspiration! Thank you so much! Question: off topic, I really like your shoes. What are those?

Shade gardens are my favorite. This year my thing is placing pots in the landscape. I’m having fun with it and I love the height and color it brings. It also enables me to plant more pots, since I don’t really have convenient areas to place them 🙃

People are free to like what they like and I totally agree that your opinion shouldn’t affect what someone else plants. However, being classified as invasive by the DNR should be enough to keep someone from planting it. That means it is detrimental to the ecosystem. People will argue that they are containing their plants and therefore they aren’t invasive but just having it in a pot or a raised bed is not enough to contain it. Birds and animals and the wind will spread seeds. We have a bunch of lily of the valley and other invasives that we never planted taking over our large wooded property and it really sucks. For someone who has a small yard in a neighborhood it would be easy to think they aren’t affecting anyone else but that’s not the case.
@TheImpatientGardener13 сағат бұрын
I agree. I’ll take that further to say that restricted invasives are illegal to have on a property in most states. And I can only speak for my state but it is next to impossible to get anyone to enforce that law.

I have a Godzilla fern and it is great. Took awhile for it to take off, but in the late fall it kind of dies back, doesn't look like it will come back (just like Godzilla), then with a huge roar it appears again.

Yes about ground covers as placeholders! I created a bed last year and allowed wild strawberries to take over. They’ve done a wonderful job at suppressing weeds between the ornamental plants. As inspiration strikes I’ll remove the wild strawberries (actually, just transplant to serve the same purpose elsewhere) and add more ornamentals. This is especially helpful to me while I decide where to place plants that don’t like to be transplanted, like baptisia.
