Week 21: Renovating our original 1970s Kitchen | Installing kitchen cabinets & peninsula |Paint FAIL

Ойын-сауық

This weeks progress on our kitchen renovation! We installed upper kitchen cabinets, installed peninsula, and prepped the cabinets doors to get them ready for paint! I prepped the unfinished cabinets by applying a layer of sanding sealer with a brush, lightly sanding it with grade 1 wool pad, applying a bead of paintable caulk on the inside seams of cabinets doors, and installing cup cooks on the tops/bottoms of doors to hang doors up for paint. Also put together a painting booth for cabinet doors to be able to paint all sides of doors in one go but that quickly turned into a huge fail.

We were in such good spirits with the cabinets getting installed! Then came the painting disaster 😭 you guys have no clue the 🤡 show that went on. I really want to just give up but we’ve come so far 😩 😒 wish us luck! Send us patience. 😮‍💨

Sending all the positive vibes, but look how far you’ve come this week! You are in the final stretch. Nothing is ruined, everything can be fixed. And all self taught? You guys are amazing!! Have I earned an invite to pancakes yet? 😂❤

@@faye-ministthis stuff is so hard and frustrating when you try so hard to do things right and it backfires 😵 everyone is invited for pancakes when we finally get there 😩 😭

You got this! This happens to me too. I try to follow the instructions given and I mess something up and have to fix it. But we push through even in frustration. You’re gonna be so proud of the work you did. My husband and I are doing all our renovations ourselves too. I totally get it. He just finished our bedroom and it took weeks. He had to pull up carpet, paint, lay laminate flooring, & stain our bed that he built. I even slept on the couch one night. Definitely cheering you on !! 🎉🎉

It’s tough work! No one knows until you do it for sure. Cheering you on! I’m sure the new bedroom looks amazing! The gratification you get when you put your own sweat and tears into it afterwards doesn’t compare ♥️

Aw you’re so sweet for replying! Just remember that everything is a learning curve and these skills will see you right for future projects. Many years ago my ex and I renovated a house that was badly fire damaged, we had to start from scratch and we didn’t have a clue what we were doing at first! So I can appreciate how hard you and Elvis are working! Keep doing what you’re doing, you’ll get there eventually 💕

I also purchased stock cabinets, when I painted them I used 4x4s as the base and laid the cabinet doors inside of my paint tent flat. I rolled the paint on and used a brush for the inside corners to get evenly coated strokes. I didn’t want shiny cabinets so I used a satin finish and I love them so so much. I can’t stand my paint spray gun. I hate the mess, I hate how much it takes to perfect your coats for each and every project. I can’t bring myself to buy an expensive one to trust that it’ll do better than the one I have now because I’ve gotten use to opting for a roller or brush every time I have a new project. Either way you choose to move forward, I’m sure it’ll look fabulous and we all can’t wait to see the finished product!

Also I use a paint tent even when I do roller and brush projects, I live under a lot of trees like you and I use to cringe when a leaf would drop on it or a bug. And also my cow and goat love to bother me and try to lick the wet paint so the paint tent is the best thing since sliced bread IMO 😂

The spray gun makes such a mess and it wastes soooo much product 😩 I’m learning the hard way for sure. It’s frustrating. I will be rolling the paint by hand and the tent does come in handy with the leaves and trees 🤣 we also went with a satin finish, I think that’s the best for cabinets. Hope ours turn out great like yours 😊

Don’t panic (easier said than done) right now my husband and I painted our cabinets in the mobile home up north we used foam rollers and brushes and they came out beautiful. There were no marks from either. So it will take a little more time and work but it’s worth it. PACKING PATIENCE FOR YOU AND SENDING IT TO YOU.

Thank you 😔 it’s good to hear on the roller situation. I really want these to look good and last. It’s probably what I’m going to have to do. Spraying this stuff on is also wasting so much product 😣
