    I just spent 4 days at Sunset Beach in NC, where I go once in a while since moving inland from Topsail Island. Sunset never has shells, but Topsail used to be covered in them, and sharks teeth as well. I was so disappointed when I saw the beach in Surf City, that I wanted to cry. They've built up so much on the island, that when I used to be able to drive for miles and not see a house, now you drive for miles trying to find an empty lot. They've replenished the beach so much, that it doesn't slope and have a wide span to it anymore, so even before high tide, the waster was already coming up within 20 feet of the berm. Shells and sharks teeth were almost nonexistent because of the "hump" on the beach. I came home with about 10 half dollar sized cockle sheells, some even had a hole or chip on the edge, because that's the best I could find. If my health doesn't go downhill anymore this time next year, I know where to go! I have alot of "beachy" things in my apt to make me feel a little more at home, and a couple are a Well she'll about 11 inches long, and even a Conch shell, both found easily back on the day on Topsail. My sharks tooth collection was well over 1000, with part of a prehistoric Giant Sloth tooth, and a tooth that looked like a great ape or human molar.I need had it checked out, but it had re look, and it was definitely old since it was black. During moves, etc., most of it got lost or stolen by roommates😐 If you guys sell things that you find, I might be interested in a few things. It was sad that I promised my niece I'd bring her back some shells from the beach, but the quality and quantity were so bad, I ended up buying some from a shop. Progress isn't so good sometimes.

  • @SaltyReflections

    @SaltyReflections

    Oh gosh! I am so sorry to hear that! It's very sad sometimes to see the "renourishment" of the beaches. Although it is good, it is also bad. Our favorite public beach here at Hunting Island State Park, is similar. It used to have a natural graveyard of trees (along with stumps) along most of the beach due to our devastating natural erosion partly due to our topography but increased greatly by hurricanes. But when I was a child, this very same beach was way out from the tree line. As a young adult, the tide (saltwater) had destroyed (eroded) this beautiful tree line, making it part of the casualty of mother nature - leaving a beautiful beach filled with trees and stumps that eventually covered in barnacles. At low tide this was still gorgeous and a great attraction. Unfortunately at mid to high tide, it made this still a very gorgeous view but a dangerous beach as you couldn't see where the trees lay or stumps were under the water & lots of people swim & enjoy the water here. :( So I understand completely why they needed the renourishment projects but I definitely agree that they change the beach. :( It has been renourished several times since then. When I was a young kid, we used to find soooo many shells here & live shells also. And as a younger adult, we used to find oodles of shark teeth but now it's much more difficult to find anything. I hate that you lost most of your collection. That's very disappointing! :( We do sell some shells - we have a link in the video description to our eBay store or you can email us directly. We certainly appreciate you watching and commenting! Thank you so much for taking virtual trips to the coast with us!

    Another wonderful walk on that beautiful stretch Of beach! The Pelicans are my favorite costal bird and they where really putting on a show today! My father was a career Air Force pilot and the two of us would sit out on the beach and enjoy their beautiful formation flight. Great little aviators. And about the shell hoarding situation. I, too, am a confirmed hoarder and not ashamed to admit it. My treasures bring me so much joy and I often pass shells along to others. Just can’t help myself! I see that you guys like to go "shelling", and I was wondering what is your favorite and or most interesting item collected so far? Shark teeth? Bones? Gems/stones? Coins? Fossils? 🌊🌴 (P.S. Lol ... we didn't even know there was a bad part! 😂 But we're glad you're from the good part! 😉😜🤣 We have been blessed with so many awesome finds its REALLY hard to decide a particular favorite! But speaking in general ... Oliver's most favorite thing to find is antique bottles! 🍾 🍶 Mine is probably fossils (both bones & shark teeth)! 🦈 🦷☠ I feel that is why we "shell" so much; although, of course, we like to collect the gorgeous shells too, but we just never know what a stroll along the coastline is going to have waiting for us on any given day! We have had some awesome days exploring God's magnificent beauty looking for His creations to treasure! We are glad you have found us & we hope you come along for more adventures in the future! 💙👣🌊🐚
