Hi - I’m Haley, one of the producers on this video! Here to give some insight into how we put this piece together. It’s a visual explainer that uses visuals of a top Iranian general to analyze a complicated topic - how Iran’s covert Quds Force operates. After Qassim Suleimani was killed in a U.S. airstrike, we combed through hundreds of images and videos of him. We wanted to know more about his unit, the Quds Force. Sightings of Quds Force members are extremely rare, but Suleimani had quite the public persona. So we compiled a spreadsheet of videos and images of Suleimani, going back to the 1980s when he served in the Iran-Iraq War. We noticed that the “shadow commander” really started popping up around 2014, right after ISIS took Mosul. Experts told us that this was on purpose - part of how the Quds Force carefully shaped its narrative around Suleimani. We treated the visuals as evidence, packed with information - we geolocated them to find out where Suleimani was and identified who he was with (whether it be a senior Hezbollah commander or a fighter from the Iraqi militia Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba). Weapons and insignia in the visuals act as further clues of Iranian influence. And all of these sightings put together are a unique lens into how the Quds Force operates - through a network of partner and proxy forces along a corridor that stretches from Iran all the way to Lebanon.

The CIA (under the Obama administration) carried out a covert program of training and arming Syrian rebels to fight against the Assad regime. That’s largely what the program achieved, too; but as a result of greed and corruption, some of the weapons supplied to the rebels were sold on to the black market, and some of those ended up in the hands of IS fighters. One could conduct a reasonable debate about the Obama administration’s overall management of the program, its efforts to vet the intermediaries involved, or prevent foreseeable theft or smuggling of the weapons, and so on. But one cannot, based on the facts available, claim that Obama “ordered the CIA to train IS.” He didn’t. Moreover, we know for a fact that he implemented a program that set out to do just the opposite - training and equipping Syrian rebels to fight and destroy IS.

These methods of tell the world like this script or power's anthrax style wouldn't be believed by the rest of the world. And us sad.

tashi tibui Modeste well it’s true didn’t understand a lot of what you said. I don’t know if you know English well. I’m assuming you don’t because of the amount of grammar errors. But yes they did have WMD’s 100%. That’s been proven. They used several types of chemical weapons in the Iran-Iraq war. Even using mustard gas which is one of the worst chemical weapons out there. Not only that child soldiers were used on both sides during the war. The Iraqis even used sarin gas. Chemical weapons are weapons of mass destruction and have been outlawed in war. It’s simple here’s an example. if you’ve committed a crime your likely to commit one again. It’s why criminals who get out of prison in the USA have an almost 80% return rate. Meaning they get out and turn back crime and end up going back to prison. They had chemical weapons before and they used them before. The country had invaded 2 other countries in a very short time frame. Iraq was bound to invade a 3rd at some point. Though the USA didn’t find nuclear weapons. They did find destroyed and sabotaged chemical weapons making facilities. Likely all chemical weapons and any evidence of there existence were destroyed. Before us troops could find any evidence of wrong doing.

YOU ARE WRONG! The BBCPersia and other Persian language Media outside IRAN, mostly placed in the UK were the first media that started to talk a looooooot about his guy, years before the Iranian side starting the publicising of him and releasing any official footage of him everywhere. The act of publicising "Soleimani" was a reaction to the Persian media in the West.
