    Honestly for me the tones aren't anymore special than other fluency sets. I don't hear the nylon voicing that they are marketing. Just sounds like a really nice paf neck tone. Those "negatives" aside they do sound really good. The single coil voicings seem much better than on any other fluence sets.

    I liked both of the sets, but Scott’s set was way more up my alley. Now, I just need a more modern guitar that I won’t mind routing a battery holder into. I already love active systems in my basses. Just never really liked anything for guitar. Until now.

    Same; I was set on Tim's---cause fanboy-- but afterother demos; Scott's fit me waaay more. Plus with the tones I lean towards Tim's end up squealing in a way I don't really like. Was pronounced in a few demos I saw. Depends on the player.

    Agree - somewhere else I heard an in-depth review of both and Scott's set sounded more 'for me' in terms of playing (mainly clean) but it's 2023 and the idea of having to change batteries seems a little 1970's . . . I recently bought a K. Yairi steel string acoustic that was designed for 30 second battery changes so maybe if the right electric came along would reconsider. I have a Sadowsky NYC S Style and an old Parker Fly and switching batteries involves unscrewing back plates . . . I just don't use the active pre-amp option in the Sadowsky (which is fine) and only use the Parker if I really need that sound for a recording. 😀

    @@SlyRyFry Yeah I passed on getting the TOD10. The backlog and delays are insane. Some guy in Australia just got one off the Production line he ordered 6 months ago. I got a very good deal on a THBB10 and it was brand new. Got it a few days ago. I Love Ibanez and They are the Go-To company for custom guitars. However I think they dropped the ball here. I think they seriously underestimated the demand and how much clout and influence Tim has in the guitar world. I have another older but still decent electric which I may put Tim's signature Fluence pickups in. I'm wondering if anyone knows of any other Guitar in the world that is back-ordered ? @@Rabid-Polyphia-Fan Pretty much every new ibanez is for sure, I just asked my sales rep at sweetwater. Definitely nothing wrong with getting just the pickups though. Just in my case the only guitar with humbuckers I have has so many problems along with it costing nearly as much as the upgrade itself it wouldn't be worth it. I would love a thbb10 if I could find a good price for one, but I have enough guitars to hold me over until the tod10 ships. My next guitar is a waiting game on the 8 string tod10 or Adam Jones custom flying V if they ever decide to put that into production. The 8 string tod10's are pretty much confirmed along with 7 strings and more variants on the 6 string tod10 though. Pretty sure it's gonna be this generations jem guitars so no worries on getting a variant of it

    The Devin Townsend pickups have crazy versatility too. Classic EMG sound, beautiful tele-y tone, and a PAFish sound. Henson’s classic HB voice 1 really nails it in comparison to the Transcendence voice 3 but Townsend’s 81ish vibe+kiiiilllller passive SC tone in one pickup is wildly impressive to me. Different pus, different focuses, different construction. Not sure about these Hensons but I know Townsend’s have a blade and polepieces and a degaussed magnet for the more PAFy sound.

  • @CrzyWzrd4L
    @CrzyWzrd4L Жыл бұрын

    Not gonna lie, the Tim Henson neck pickup just sounds like a DiMarzio PAF Pro in voicing 1 and 3. Voicing 2 sounds like a PAF Pro with a capacitor to roll off some of the top end. Great sound but can be had in a much cheaper pickup.

  • @zloboslav_
    @zloboslav_ Жыл бұрын

    That's not even close to how nylon or piezo sound. I'm better off with 2 split humbuckers together in the middle position with an EQ pedal for that tone. If you really want that full range tone you should look up Cycfi Research pickups - they sound bright like a steel string acoustic piezo (not nylon). Loved the demo and the tones otherwise and the pickups themselves do sound great. :)

    My pickups from Jim Wagner Pickups (Formerly WCR Pickups) crush! Jim Wagner is a guy a lot of the big players come to for pickups. He used to re-wind pickups for big artists. I have that nylon Tim Henson TOD guitar, and I really can’t imagine them being able to make pick ups that can sound like this guitar with nylon strings. It’s close. But those strings have a really distinctive sound that I gotta imagine is hard to replicate. The Tim Henson pickups voiced to sound like nylon, actually sounds exactly like my piezo does on my JazzMaster Acoustasonic. That’s a lot what that pick up sounded like.

It's cool that you can have both I guess, but I think passive pickups with a gain boost is the best option. Also, that nylon setting sounds nothing like a nylon, or piezo for that matter. Maybe through Tim Hensons pulgin, these sound amazing, but I think I'll stick to my passive emgs. The hz line of pickups have to be my favorites by far. TLDR; yes, but pickups that are engendered differently sound fundamentally diffrent (ie: humbucker/piazo ect.) and having one that can switch between all three main styles is awesome and something that should be more popular. For massive differences in sound quality speaker swapping is the way to go but it dosent mean much if the pickups in your guitar don’t have enough clarity (especially when playing chords) to make the speaker sound as good as it should, and having a pickup that can go between H - S DOES have a big tone difference, same if your taking about piazo pickup tones. When it comes to swapping diff hum-buckers and or diff single coils with a pickup of the same configuration, that’s when you barely get much of a difference. So I do agree, but I think that having a pickup that can alter its sound fundamentally so it can present tonal quality’s from pups that are engendered differently is pretty game changing indeed. Imo i don’t really like them very much, but I think the new voicing options are really cool

    okay Glenn. There's more to a signal chain than the speakers fyi. I have 3 different cabs they sound great and can be used with any guitar. Pickups can only be used with one guitar.

    Why? Id rather have several guitars with different pickups than several speaker cabinets. Speakers are far from the only thing thay effects tone

    @@jleighwolfe Having many speakers doesn't mean having many cabinets. Speakers fundamentally change your sound/tone.

    Eh, they sound like fishman. Always Glad to see Tim get that bag though. I feel like almost everything is “good” and that’s getting kinda boring.
