so there was absolutely no reason for me to do this, but i was curious about the steamed meat. the game is obviously made in japanese first and then localized/translated into english, which means that a lot of items in games that have an english name may not have ever been intended to have such a meaning. so i wondered if link had actually steamed the meat, since steam is an instruction right? you steam the meat. i changed my switch's settings to japanese and opened up the game. i traveled to a stable where i knew a cooking pot was and made the recipe, which called for one herb of any kind and a piece of meat. in japanese, the item is called 包み焼き肉 (tsutsumi yakiniku), which translates to WRAPPED GRILLED MEAT they never had to steam it and turn it into a grey piece of leather. it was wrapped in herbs and grilled this whole time

Music Account no that’s actually not true, spice was more valued than gold due to how cheap it was and how easy it is to harvest. There’s a reason why India was so valuable

Here’s an easy cheap garlic bread recipe. Long bakery loaf(like a country loaf or something that looks like it has a thick crust. Cut in half, spread a lot of butter, dust on garlic powder, season with garlic powder, garlic salt, salt, pepper, an Italian herb mix. Set over to 350 and put it in as it heats, and just take it out when it feels crisp enough on the outside. Also I need to fry some bread

I love how anything with butter and salt was transcendent
For a more authentic Breath of the Wild tasting experience one should put the dish into their pocket, forget about for weeks then get into a near death situation and eat fifteen of them at once.

The time crunch both feels horribly unfair, and totally accurate for the dishes since obviously narratively link takes more time, but mechanically these dishes are made really fast.

Their egg pudding is instant death. I have personal experience, my mom once substituted vanilla coffee creamer for milk while making scrambled eggs and it is the worst thing I've ever tasted, not because it was that atrocious, but because she didn't mention the substitution before serving it.

@@Scarleto I'm from the southwest, and Indian tacos are better than corn or soft tortilla tacos, and I'll fight anyone who disagrees. Can't even get the same effect deep frying a tortilla because there's extra fat in the tortilla so it soaks up fat from the fry oil making it greasy, every time.

I was at a lovely Japanese Italian fusion restaurant a few months ago, and they had a dish on the menu which was a thick slice of cauliflower with all sorts of lovely seasonings. The waitress described it so nicely, then said “but we’re out of cauliflower, so today it’s a carrot” and I just could not stop laughing! We actually ordered the roasted carrot and it was delicious, so the theory that carrot can sub in for any vegetable does hold up in practice.
I so badly wish there were more of these episodes. This one has become like a comfort food to me, the video I always go back to when I'm feelin sick or down. Thank you Brian and Adam.

The thing is, Pat and the other guy actually liked it too. And in principle, it's not really different from potato fries, or naan, or fried batter, etc. I think humans maybe just really like pure carbohydrates soaked in pure fats.

The complex carbs break down into sugars, the Maillard reaction makes the sugars break down even further to create some rad flavours; all this + the savoury from the salt and flour creates a Large Yum™. No wonder nearly every culture has some type of fried carb

@@finerz321 in spain we have "migas" (it literally means "crumbs") that are just fried bread leftovers or flour and water with peppers, sausage, paprika sausage and some really fatty meat, similar to bacon (don't know its name). this plate slaps. u should try it, you won't regret it (but it's hard to make, it takes a lot of time, so try it in a restaurant or smth)

Watching this is both entertaining but also very stressful bc its clear that Brian has never had to plan for making a large amount of food in a short amount of time before. When he said he left the hardest recipes for last, it hurt my soul
I always imagined the “Fruit and Mushroom Mix” to be like a platter you slowly nibble on at a wine tasting. Like duck tongue, many cheeses, and fruits being served together in Sonoma.

Honestly feels like any vegetable other than carrots could have helped a lot of these dishes. Also despite the name, I'm 80% all the steamed dishes are actually smoked and the inclusion of herbs in the recipe is to create an aromatic smoke, but since every dish cooks near instantaneously we can't prove that these dishes are smoked and not steamed (for the uninitiated, smoking takes considerably longer than steaming)

I know, that's what I was thinking. You guys, there is literally salt in the game.
Honestly the one thing that gives the menu in BOTW context is the fact that Link has canonically eaten a stone steak that Daruk gave him without so much as batting an eye. And then all of a sudden it makes a lot more sense. (You literally get to WATCH Link put some of these things in his belly in Age of Calamity and it's HILARIOUS)
