Online school isn’t for everyone. Some people need social interaction to gain energy, which help them learn while in school. For me school gives me so much anxiety, stress and overwhelming. It makes me feel mentally tired

This is such an important conversation! Loved hearing the kids’ perspectives and appreciate Gabi and Roberto for being so brave to share their thoughts. Discipline and self regulation are such important skills to have and I’m glad they’re developing these skills in their teen years. With the pandemic, many began learning from home and it provided an option for those including myself who thrive better outside of the classroom. I‘m glad that you touched upon the social aspect because while socialization is important, many can thrive socially outside of the school setting. I absolutely love that the kids’ mental, physical and emotional health have benefited from at home learning because that’s what matters most. I personally have been considering an online program for a post graduate degree since it has worked best for my learning style and my overall health. I myself am an HSP so I can be quite sensitive to my environment and the energy of others. While I can manage in the traditional learning environment, I’ve found that I can thrive best when I can learn in an environment that is best suited for me. Each and every one of us have such unique learning styles, personalities, and lifestyles and I’m glad that the both of you are exploring the options that work best for your kids. Glad that they’re they’ve been happier and healthier, as they get to enjoy their learning more and can better experience life. Thanks again for sharing on this topic! Much love you four! ❤️

“At school do you feel like that there are more people you dislike than you like?” I absolute agree Gabi! School in presence takes so much energy from me it’s crazy. I wish I could choose the people I spend my time with instead of being forced to hang out with people I normally wouldn’t.

Thank you so much for speaking up about on-line learning for your kids. My two teenage boys, here in the U.S., have been experiencing so much anxiety and pressure in keeping up with course work at their school, along with the fear of active shooters entering the building, that it's now affecting their sleep, their diet, and mental health. I am considering on-line schooling as an option at this point; something has to change, and I just want my children to thrive however they can. Thanks again!

As an online schooler i definitely agree with the point on friendship. In the beginning I made little effort with making friends because of the fatigue from past friendships and interactions at school but recently I've made a handful of great friends; It just feels more real and less forced than interactions in school. The only thing I'd say is if you're considering online school you have to be willing to have self-control and be self driven but these are learnable things as was pointed out. In general I have more time for extracurriculars, interests and am 100% more confident. Loving these videos, they feel extremely real and give me insight on things I didn't even think I needed insight on!!

How did you make friends outside of school? I’m considering online school and my parents are worried about my social life

  • @aaryamannambiar6677
    @aaryamannambiar6677 Жыл бұрын

I left my school early because of a lot of letdowns and inefficiencies within the school, and decided to pursue my love for music and filmmaking instead. My school's faculty and fellow classmates were pretty much looking down at me when I told them what my plan would be after I left. But, I didn't care that much because I didn't really have any strong friendship with anyone there, which was also unfortunate. I've always had issues with school syllabi and curriculum in my country, India, and luckily, my parents were very supportive of my decisions to leave school and focus on my main passions instead of spending many years graduating 12th grade, then spending 4-6 years in getting a degree in something I'm not interested in, etc, only to be struggling to get a job later. And... It's working out great for me!! I started a film production company with my brother and we're doing pretty okay so far! Once you've figured out what you want to do with your life, you can't help but learn and train yourself in that field, which is exactly what I had to do. There was a lot of learning, studying that I had to do myself to be able to work on the commercial projects I'm working on today. By no means was it easy, but it was definitely the right choice instead of dealing with a schooling system that will drain my family's savings and probably have me struggling to find a job and be miserable by the end of it.

Truly a great video and I'm totally agreed from A to Z. As a college student, I do really like online classes, I don't really care much about social life in college because most of my classmates are only using me that makes me into depression. When doing an online classes, I'm so relaxing because there are no one to disturb me while I'm focusing in the class and also I can record the whole class especially when the lecturer presented the slides or answer scheme. Its actually a win for me because I can review anytime that I want. Plus, the most important in online classes is that I can take care of my family while studying because I'm prioritise family over friends.

I can so relate to this ... I'm 35 years old, studied IT and now decided to follow a study in something completly different and I just don't want to travel to another city for classes, and we are still using actual books. It's a lot harder to look somthing up in a book VS pressing CTRL+F to search for something in a PDF or smth. Education can get só stuck in their old ways, and doesn't reflect the current society.

So many things you said in this video were things that I had never thought of! I never liked school, I struggled in school really bad! I was also so bad at memorizing the things we were supposed to be reading. I really didn't have many real friends in school, I had "friends" people I would talk to but it really didn't go outside of that except for maybe one or two. I really hung out with my cousins in school. I preferred that. You really do feel forced to be friends with some people. I wish that online learning was available when I was in school, that would have helped me so much I feel like! Awesome video, loved hearing their perspectives.

Hey, Bee Fam. I rarely comment on KZread, Instagram, etc, but this video hits home. I'm an elementary school teacher. However, I am a huge proponent of homeschooling/online learning. My oldest daughter did online school for her middle school years because of competitive sports but later returned to traditional school. Your children are wise beyond their years, which speaks volumes to your parenting skills and what you've instilled in them.

Thank you for sharing love your videos ❤ I went to a private school and honestly I still have issues from school up to this day and I graduated 2010. I was being bullied by a lot of girls who were upset at me because I would play soccer with MY BROTHERS and their friends during lunch and breaks. But because they had crushes and thought I was playing soccer to get attention from the guys. (Which by the way my brothers were the ones inviting me to play because they needed one more player) I got bullied my entire 4years of high school. Sadly since my brothers were older they graduated before me so as soon as they graduated my next two years of being bullied were terrible and kept getting worst. I had so much anxiety, I lacked energy and motivation to go to school. I could t focus. I would come home crying everyday dreading to go the next day. The sad thing was not only were the girls bullying me. The moms of this girls volunteered and would bully me as well. My parents worked so very hard for my four siblings and I to have a better life. They thought a private school was best for us because they had seen my brothers were going into a bad direction in public school. I would of loved homeschooled and feel like that would of helped me be able to concentrate more. Definitely school is not for everyone. I do agree all my longest and best friendships I have were outside of school.

Are there group projects in online school? One of the things that I find important in the process of learning is to be able to work with a team toward a common envisioned result. Because we usually never end up with people we like to work together and it's essential to be able to work despite the differences. In many aspects I think online schooling offers a safe environment for one to comprehend difficult subjects without being judged by peers which is great. But I also think group activities are important to learn different types of people and be able to work together.

I might go back to regular school in a week or 2 because I’ve only signed up for 6 weeks of online school and I’m kind of sad and nervous because I don’t like to interact with other people in school and I get very anxious but in online the only person I have to Interact with is with my teacher. If I had the option to choose I would stay in online school for the rest of my school year and onwards.

Love y'alls family dynamic. Sadly I believe many parents especially if not only in the USA are contemplating online/home school not for bullying or academic purposes but to keep them safe and alive 🥺

Interesting. Of course in school you can socialize and learn to be with different kinds of people. But of course you can do that when travelling etc and people are different so one can be happy being more alone and others get more energy from being with groups.

It is true that from all of my friends from high school, I stayed friends with like, 2 of them? One of them being my bff since primary school ;^^ I didn't experience bad things to the extent Gabby and Roberto went through, but my brothers did (we weren't at the same school, I was in a girls only public school, by choice), and it still impacts them 15+ years later. I will admit though, what made me the most motivated in high school, was the extra curricular activities (improv, theater, student radio, etc). My closest friends I made (and with whom I'm still very close to this day), I made them in CEGEP, which I think we're so lucky to have here in Quebec. It basically is prepping you for University (or for the work field, depending on the program), in a field you're passionate about, and there I was, a monkey in a class full of other monkeys to share my passions with! And these memories, I'll cherish forever. I didn't go to university, but here I am, 35 yo, working in 3D animation for almost 13 years now, with many of my classmates now being coworkers ^^ I don't think there's a unique path into learning, but sadly it's impossible to accommodate each and everyone in traditional school, your kids are lucky to have devoted parents who can support them in their goals and dreams! If every kid had the possibility to develop to their full potential, what a wonderful world we would be living in! Thanks for sharing your experience Gabby and Roberto, it was very interesting to hear your perspective!

I can say though that online learning is not for primary schoolers x) Those pandemic school classes at home were an absolute nightmare for my daughter. It started in preschool in 2020, and also had online classes in 1st and 2d grade. It was horrible, for everyone. Teacher, kids, parents 🥲 100% wouldn't go back 😅

I respect your decision to do classes online and go for the homeschool/online learning option. I think it's great! I do disagree with you somewhat on the perspective/reasoning regarding memorization. Having been a teacher for thirteen years, I do think memorization is very important, especially regarding math and numbers. While calculators are available tools for computation, there is a great need for the brain to be able to compute numbers without the use of a calculator or computer. I believe that if we depend on technology to solve problems, there may come a time when we will need the tools of memorization to help us, and we will find that we are lacking in these skills when we need them most. (For example, if we face a situation in which technology is somehow hindered through an EMP, or a catastrophic event.) Also, I had my students memorize the first two paragraphs of the Declaration of Independence. I feel that by introducing this important document of our country's founding, it helps them understand the reasoning behind the Declaration of Independence's origination, and how that resonates with tyrannical government and safeguarding our future, by learning from the past. Just some thoughts. God bless you all. Enjoy your new adventure with online learning.

I can agree with Gabi’s reason, because sitting in a single room for six maybe seven hours straight, maybe more for maybe tutoring is hard because you aren’t moving around as much or maybe enjoying your friends in school. I think that having a social life in school, mainly maybe high school is good for those for any social people like me. But anti-social people or people that may not social as much have it better in my opinion because those people may have anxiety for socialising or something

And you can also ask teachers for help in school, but online schooling for me is a bit harder because if you have questions, you may have to ask a specific teacher for tutoring as I commented already

As a future educator, I absolutely agree. Most of us younger future and present teachers absolutely agree that the way we are taught to educate is very outdated. I’m hoping my generation of teachers can change the way we educate! The system needs an overhaul. Teachers still teach the same way they did in the 1950s.

My niece and nephew went strictly virtual right after the pandemic hit. When they were supposed to be able to go back they were just going to be on computers anyway so they were like what is the point of that? And also the teachers at the schools here like to talk politics and stuff that has nothing to do with the classes they are in. They made the decision so they could actually learn what they are supposed to instead of listening to politics in a math class. Good on you guys for letting the kid make this decision, it doesn’t mean they aren’t learning just making their lives a little easier!

I was homeschooled/online learning from kindergarten up to third grade, and it wasn't necessarily terrible, but I personally didn't like it very much. The cons just outweighed the pros for me. Pros: -I wasn't having as much anxiety since I have social anxiety. -I was learning at my own pace. Cons: -I didn't have any friends (not exaggerated). -My parents were always busy with teaching me and my brother. -I was almost always inside my house (which some people might like, but not me).

Can you all make a video about your thoughts of the "Cry It Out" method? The children seem so secure with themselves and I feel it's due to the high attention, you, as parents, have been giving them. I've noticed the Cry It Out method has become so popular now that when I tell people I always pick up my baby when she cries, I get looks and told "I'm coddling them too much." But I feel it builds that strong bond... like the one all 4 of you have.
