We Just Like To Grow Stuff | Homestead Vlog | June 21, 2024
Today we are building a very simple garden trellis for our black eyed peas! When you grow up instead of out the use of your space is so much more efficient. We've always wanted to make a trellis like this and today we finally took the time to do it. We apologize for the less than ideal audio on this video! We are working on it for future videos!
Be sure to check out Jared over at @FlutyLickHomestead , we know yall will enjoy his content as well! He's given us so many ideas for growing food on steep land!

I enjoy it too 😊
My Grandpa always laid a stick across the top of the trellis, from one trellis to another, making them sturdy with weather.
Love to hear the birds….Gods musicians!!!
Yes, don't apologize for the beautiful sounds of nature. Think about the people living in cities, never seeing any type of farming, or animals. Keep doing what you are doing, we all love your family.😊
I love this channel! Real people, real food and honest hard work. Living the American Dream. Keep up the good work.
Enjoy watching you guys work together and listening to each other's ideas. The teepee is going to be pretty!!
Love the background noise.. makes me feel like I am there... They look fantastic.. And l love the growing rocks... and its true if you have that type of ground.. I wish I saw your videos 40 years ago when l was young enough to do all the work you guys have done around the farm... You make it all look easy, enjoyable and fun when you are all together and helping each other and learning from each other and just from your own minds, seeing the pictures in your mind of what it will look like to make it work.. Much love and appreciation from Australia ❤❤

I just am so happy when I see a new video from you. I realize many must complane about various noises. But, I love the noises, I can hear all of that farm life talking and it blesses me so. Your Tiger Girl picked up the scent of some animal over behind you guys, earning her keep. What was the name of the guy you want us to check on?
The volume was great ! The back ground noise is nature!! It was a perfect environment!!! It’s real life!! Love watching your channel!! So informative and entertaining!!! True life !! Never fake ….. truly love it!!
I'm 73 and this is home mom and dad always sticked their beans. Cane poles is what they called them😊
The trellis look great. They probably make a good hideout for the kids. Meagan the rooster crowing and other sounds of outdoor are absolutely beautiful. ❤❤
Let them sing. The birds compliment the video. It adds another authentic level to your channel.
I made just about exactly how un’s did expect I use long bamboo sticks. I love it. Much love from a fellow Appalachian in Kentucky. Love you all.
it 's no wonder the kids are so eager to do and learn, because the parents are sooo enthusiastic about what they do! Andy is like a little kid withe trellis 😂😂👍
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ I love the outside "noise" ....makes me feel like I am right there with ya'll♥️♥️♥️
You have some strong singing birds. Beautiful, I would be out on the front porch every morning, with my coffee listening to God's beautiful creation. The music those birds are putting out, wow. Your family has a prime spot there.
Love the sounds of nature, no apology needed. God Bless y'all from East Tennessee
I love listening to those birds 🦅 🐦 and your rooster 🐓 ❤
We love hearing the birds and the rooster. It is so peaceful and it belongs on your video. it is part of life in the country. We enjoy your videos.
Oh wow your/maggie’s flower garden is so stunning!!!
Jacob & Maggie can have their own Teepee camp out, after the harvest 💙💯
We don't mind those sounds coming in with you, that's Nature showing they are on the job site too. I've been watching Jared and his family almost since their beginning and they do a great job on those steep hills . He's been really busy around there putting more finishing touches on their Log Home he resurrected and bringing the ground up to farming standards. They are a super bunch of folks too. He will like what you've done with the Beans. Thanks for sharing everything with us, stay safe and keep up the great work and videos. Fred.

I browsed his channel the for the first time after they recommended it and saw your comments there. They stood out to me for some reason…I love how you “sign” them Fred at the end of each one.
Andy, it’s dry here in Kentucky too. I’m watering my garden 2 times a day with this heat but we been blessed from the Lord with a wonderful spring.
I could hear both of what you were saying, and it was lovely hearing the birds❣️ Here in Pa. It’s been in the 90s for the last 4 days, no rain😮

We are in N VA and these 90s temps this week are rough! We haven’t had but a 15min shower in weeks even when there’s been more rain within a few miles of us. And no rain in sight! 😢
Those Tripods are gonna look so amazing once those beans start climbing… ❤️
We've grown black-eyed peas from a dry bag from the grocery store. Your husband reminds me of my husband. Chatty Cathy!❤😂
That is beautiful music from the Birds God's creatures.
My Daddy Used To Make Cane Fishing Poles...
@danabaker596

That's all I could see when they were stripping the cane. FISHING POLES! Bluegill, here we come!! Sidenote: I remember when Sears, in the 70's, came out with telescoping fiberglass poles. My Dad bought one for each of us. We thought we were the kings and queens of fishing! 😅 Occasionally, we still used our original cane poles, though. Wonderful days of youth. ❤
A dear friend of mine did this and planted morning glory for it to climb on and her granddys loved to play in it.
Y’all are so sweet! The singing birds are beautiful and made this so nice to see. Birds sing when they’re safe! It adds to the peace of watching you. God bless you!
Nature's wind chimes sounds lovely❤😂❤
The background noise is perfect! 😊 Its like your channel is an ASMR channel. I literally felt like i was right there, helping you water the garden! I also love you guy's enthusiasm! Its contageous. ❤
It's a joy to plant and watch it come up and grow and produce knowing you will have fresh vegetables ❤
Actually, listening to the birds while you two worked makes the video more enjoyable. Good job.
If you move the center piece out of the way, your kids can play inside the pea teepee once it’s grown in. Great place to read a book.
Love hearing the birds 😊
Thank you all for showing and teaching us. Beautiful garden. I missed the children today. 😊❤🙏 Ms. Ruby
I have been watching for a little while but just now watching some of the older videos. You two work so well together! Ya’ll were made for KZread, nice, respectful, and you take turns talking (no talking over each other) and you have an excellent homestead story to tell.
The birds sound so nice. In the city we don’t get to hear many
Like 2 listen 2 birds , chickens , just bout anything but roosters making a racket at 3 in the morning. enjoyed
I like the birds in the background.
I love all the sounds , grew up with all those noises, love it. My parents always did these trellis.
I just love that you all are as happy about stuff like this as I am! I swear I think my husband thinks I'm crazy sometimes. 😂❤
I love hearing all the creatures singing.
Love nature's choir and everything you do from central NC
You can always tie string between each cane, and they will fill in between the canes. also don't worry about the rosters and birds that's just life sounds.
I really enjoy listening to the birds, roosters all part of the environment. Great video again.
Love the sounds of nature so no apology needed. We love the teepees and Andy's enthusiasm about them. If you leave a wide enough opening on one of them Jacob ad Maggie can get inside 😊 Can't wait to see them when they get covered with the plants. Amazon has some garden clips that might help with keeping the plants on those slick bamboo poles.
Love your video's....the trellis's are cool and the birds and roosters were nice to listen to as well.. could still hear you both also... Thanks fir sharing.
If you water the ground well and leave it ten minutes, you can push the canes in deep pretty easy.
I LOVED hearing the birds, roosters crowing, and all the other sounds. Yes! The teepee trellis is awesome 👌
I’m here for the birds singing and roosters crowing as well as your excellent content and editing skills. ❤
Don't apologize for the wonderful farm noises! We think they are great! Especiallythe roostercrowing and the birds singing! ❤ We love your teepee trellises! I can't wait to see your plants growing up those poles. It is going to be so beautiful!! We love watching your channel. You and Andy remind us of ourselves when we were younger. Thanks for sharing your life with us! ❤
Love you all. Try to tie some of those rocks you keep growing to the center of your teepees so that they don't blow over so easily . Just a thought. Ms Karin
Your a very lucky man...to have such a Caring beautiful wife to live this life. You are a millionaire you have the perfect life perfect woman and beautiful children Don't change just LIVE God bless your family
I always watch Fluty Lick Homestead. His videos slowed down when his Grandpa passed. That’s probably why I like your channel. Reminds me oh his. Best place to plant a garden is by the house. Easier to tend to. Your gardens look beautiful.
You all's garden is really looking pretty
We made cane teepees last year in our sauce garden. I planted 3-4 tomato seeds around each cane - we used only 4 canes per teepee. Those seeds came up and we tied those tomatoes - several different kinds representing determinant and indeterminant - to those canes and they did a beautiful job. We had 152 plants some on cattle panel and most on teepees. I canned 82 quarts of tomatoes, ate so many fresh and still have 6 bags - 3 gallon - in the freezer. Dang! I just finished canning peas and then beets... I need to get those tomatoes out and process them. Thankful! No complaints. This even year, only fresh eating and fermenting tomatoes in the gardens. Even years are for beans, green peas, beets, summer squash, peppers, herbs and long pie pumpkins. Next year (odd) back to sauce tomatoes, large pumpkins, winter squash, red ripper peas and pickling cucumbers. Every year fresh eating veggies but canning veggies every other year. Only 1.5 acres including house and pool and front yard on golf course (useless).
I am loving the birds, roosters and sounds of nature, it added to your vlog!
I love the birds singing it’s tranquial ❤😊. I loved watching it due to the birds it’s very relaxing 😊
The peas or beans will absolutely climb and not slide down. I have made many of these Tee Pees out of river cane poles. These are My favorite bean supports . Fluty Lick is in KY. .it is about 7 Miles from where I live.
Garden looks great. I’m praying for rain for y’all.❤❤❤
My Granny and Pa used to make the teepees for their green beans. As little kids we would get in the middle of them and pick the beans. Great memories ❤😅😅😅
I sure miss growing a garden so just watching you two has really fed my inner garden desire.
Hi l think it’s lovely how the birds 🦅 sing that beautiful xxx
I sure do enjoy all the videos,it's just real life. No apologies are needed for all the critters chirping and crowing. I sure do look forward to seeing the follow-up video

Best!
I love the sound of the animals and the Cain trellises are awesome, I hope everything comes up. That will be so neat to see. We don’t grow anything anymore, but I sure do love watching your show. Keep up the good work and thank you for sharing. Brings back a lot of memories when we did so much gardening with all my family.❤
I love the birdsong!!
I don’t mind the sounds at all.. sounds like what I hear when I head out to my barn.
I miss those days so much.
I love all the birds singing
we have lots of bamboo on my parent's land. They make great garden trellises, and teepees for kids. Enjoy watching and learning from y'all
My grandfather grow up all types of bean, vegetables and more on a hillside never a problem after coming from work everyday all by hand and hand tools without help until he died, God Bless him and you all homesteaders and farmers in general. My grandpa went by the moon 🌙 very old sign before because that was how indigenous peoples did long time ago and he didn’t knew how to read or write but knew all about the land that was a long time ago when they didn’t have any schools around or close by, even my mom when to school until 3rd or 4th grade bcz that was the only available grades at school and learn to read and write but cursive only no print one by one bcz time was short and not time to learn all the steps as it’s now. No electricity before and water was from a well or river. Oh plus my grandpa had his own family land but they had to move in away to work to provide to his family and moving here and there in different places they never reclaimed their own land and it’s government property or his younger brother reclaimed all of him and his family but my mom brothers/sisters never did anything to reclaim their land it’s all lost by now. sorry English isn’t my first language. ❤
I love Flutty Licks channel too.
kinda looks like a teepee to me!yea you dont need to block out the backround kinda liked it
Wow y'all grow everything , even rocks. 😂 😂

I love all the background animal noises!! I also love your videos! Very real!! The good the bad and the ugly!
All the background noise of your home and farm are very pleasant sounds. I like and don't mind them at all. Sounds like a very happy place. I live a very rocky area too. I always the more rocks you pick up, what is left behind has babies. They certainly multiply.
I love the cane trellis....... cuteness overload
Make good fishing pole😊❤
I teepee my Kentucky Wonder beans just like that every year here in central Ohio. It works great.
Love watching your channel grow ! Every video you have so many more subscribers !🎉❤
I love the nature sounds. Luv, how you work together. Reminds me of when my husband and I were younger. Great job, you guys
I just found y’all on here a few days ago. Love watching y’all’s channel 😊
I think if you start at the top of each branch and wrap some twine around it all the way to the bottom, the beans will be able to grab on to the twine while it is climbing. I did that once for my morning glories and it worked.
The soapy water supposedly makes it so squash bugs can't breathe. Hope it works!
I’ve had teepee trellises in my garden for years and love them! Ours are made of bamboo, which we have tons of. The kids really loved playing in and around them when they were little! (25 yrs ago) If you have any interest in the gardens of Thomas Jefferson at Monticello and George Washington at Mt. Vernon you will find a long and rich history of these style trellises, and they’re still in use today.
I love the background sounds. Also your bean trellises. Wow! The kids will be wanting a teepee now tho.
Another wonderful video! Love hearing the birds. A farmer's wisdom is unbeatable. Perhaps some of that bailing string run down the canes or wrapped down the canes would give something the beans can grab onto to climb the canes.
😃🎉 Excellent I subscribed to your channel 🙏 ✨ Many blessings to you and your Family
I planted some bush beans in a few raised beds that I pulled onions from. We are dry here in Kings Mtn Nc too.
I love hearing the birds and all of the other sounds on your homestead!!! I was able to hear you and Andy just fine. I love your bean and pea trellises , they are super cool, and I am excited to see what happens. Makes gardening fun when it's hot and humid and just waiting on something to start coming in. I don't have any land to plant so I have 9 raised beds, a root pouch platform with 16 15/gal. root pouches with an attached cattle panel. A couple more root pouches and a few barrels. We also attached a few cattle panels and made an arch over 2 of the beds, then a few down the center of a couple more. I grow my peas, cucumbers and sugar baby and yellow doll watermelons on them. I mix 8 oz. of hydrogen peroxide (from Dollar Tree) to 1 gallon of water and spray my cucumbers, stops most fungal disease. I prune my squash, cucumbers, watermelons, and tomatoes. I really pack out my beds, I have 12 jalapeno and 12 banana peppers in one 3x8 bed! I love that I can water with the hose too. I am getting some yellow straight neck squash and I hope to be picking a first round of Contender bush beans on Monday. I want to try a late crop of Jade and Green Blaze beans too. Tomatoes have been keeping me on my toes with all the pruning and running weave. My better boys are loaded with green tomatoes, quite a few Hossinators, Red Snapper, and Shelby too. Bought another small freezer on clearance so if all of these tomatoes come in at the same time, like last year, I won't lose as many. Sorry so chatty, love all of your videos, thanks for sharing!
Hello from sw pa. I just wanna say a HUGE thank you. The bird tape saved my garden. I zigzagged it from t post to t post. My hubby came home and asked "what the heck is up with the garden"? I told him it's our disco garden....lol
I like hearing the birds and roosters
I can’t wait to see the peas run up those teepees - cool idea!
I have smaller versions of your tee pee trellis and I actually had to wrap string/rope around the tee pee part because, like you mentioned, the bamboo canes are so smooth, the vines can get heavy, they just slide right down. So by wrapping the tee pee (like how you did at the top) it helped the vines attach horizontal while they're growing up. Wishing you a bountiful harvest! Best wishes, Sheri xoxo
Pet that sweet puppy! ❤️😊 She wants some loving!😊❤
From top to bottom for the peas to climb on
This is the first year I beat those vine borers. Started plants inside and when they got a good size, I made small slits in the main trunk and used a syringe to inject some BT mixed with a little water. I had heard it worked. Well the borers still got in the trunks, I expected the plants to die but they didn’t. The borer must have died inside and my plants are all still going. 😊 finally!!!
