    Having done electrical work for over 40 years, the one thing that stood out is you need a heavier gauge extension cord to run from the gen to the pump plug. That one looks like 16 or 14-gauge. I'd go with a 12-gauge cord. Then you won't risk burning out your pump! and you probably won't have the pulsating in the Champion Gen, or set the cord on fire. And the male plug on the pump is the cheapest thing sold everywhere! Wire the end into a raintight box when you get a chance!

    Plus that champion is a modified sine wave vs the predator is an inverter style so the sine wave will be better and will help the pump run better.

    It was easy to see how excited you are and it is something that's very easy to take for granted when you're hooked into a city water but when you don't you learn to appreciate running water very fast.

    Maybe a pressure switch in case the hose inadvertently gets shut off. Have you considered maybe building a generator shed in combination with the wellhead cover? (Keep the power leads short and not have to dig the generator out in the winter.)

    You need a well house to prevent damage from bears, moose, deer etc, and to keep it snow free. I would also just bury PVC pipe to the house tank and the coop tank and install a simple manifold with valves in the pump house, so you don't have to drag hoses around

    Although with burying a pipe, he then has to worry about it freezing. Which he doesn't want to do. It's a nice convenience, but does add some potential issues. Imo, he just should have a hoses set up to the house and coop that he can drain and store during the winter.

    78 feet is a deep well it should last a good long time. You should never run out of water. You can get home kits to test well water too. First Alert, the same company that makes the smoke detectors makes them,, among others. Also, It should be possible to add a automatic switch that measures load ( amps) to the power supply of the pump so that if you ever forget to shut the pump off before you shut the valve it will shut itself down. Just to be safe. (P.S. The well water here in the agriculture area of the country is all poluted.)

    You both must be so excited! Just one tip - I saw that you're powering the pump with a small gauge (wire diameter) extension cord. That to me is a no, no. It's called something like power drop, loss. Always plug the pump directly into your generator. Google it and see what I am talking about.

  • @jakeriff95
    @jakeriff9511 ай бұрын

    you could probably add some splitters -- that way you could maybe do like a little outdoor gardening sink, plus have access for hoses, sprinklers and all that. you can just use normal hoses and drain them if you leave for a while. worst case the hose freezes and you replace it. super cheap.

    The last house we lived in had well water. We drank that for 25 years. I miss it. We live in a small town now and the pump so many chemicals into the water I can smell it when I walk into the house. 6 years and it still stinks. All the water we cook with or drink goes thru a Britta filter.

    I am very excited for you both because this is a huge deal to not have to be worried about water. One less daily chore in the winter. I have an idea for your well house, a common (Welluck 15 amp flanged 120v inlet) would be perfect for this application. That way you can use solar or generator power with no fancy wiring. I used a similar unit for my tiny cabin. 😁

    Watching this video reminds me how amazing it is that people used to live without anything discussed in this off-grid video. No electricity. No running water. No vehicles. No electronic communication. No medicine of any kind. If you got sick, your body would deal with it or you’d die. That’s it. (That was the general medical reality even 100 years ago.) Abraham Lincoln grew up in a one-room log cabin with a bed made of corn stalks until he was 10-years-old when he got a real “bed.” So it’s fascinating to see people who desire this spartan lifestyle, albeit with some 2023 technology and a few modern conveniences.
