I don’t get what’s so hard to explain. Some frogs ignored some make a wish kids who turned space cows into machine gods, fought with the elves and orcs for a few thousand years, got tired, became terminator Egyptians, and went to sleep. Fast forward a long time later the space elves fucked a god into existence, hell became angry, half the elves died, what was left became nuns, rave enthusiasts, clowns, or the Amish while humanity colonized everything. Then humanity collapsed, this guy made 19 large buff men and a femboy, conquered the galaxy, only for 7 of those buff men and the femboy to revolt and now the universe sucks and you’ll probably get eaten by a cockroach enjoy.

I don't think there is a human treading this planet who could compare to the glory days of GW. Now though, that the greats have fallen it's much more possible, but their old art? For me it's amazingly unreachable.

The fact that they managed to draw anything that realy resembles the characters, speaks for the authors who wrote the descriptions and the two artists who are able to put them on paper.

Being both a War Hammer fan and an anime fan… If Nurgle had a Chibi form, that drawing would be precisely it. :) For me, Chibi art takes away only the associated sense of impending doom from “evil” characters (gravitas, if you will) but still allows you to define/depict them as accurately as their real selves… Marvellous work, ladies.

Ariel's improvement since the start of the channel to now is just unbelievable.

I would love to see more content like this. The portrait of the Emperor was brilliant, as he is less of a character and more of a concept. Other artists have all taken a crack at visually representing him, and yours is as good as any of the ones more deeply rooted in the lore. I also like the lore dump montage, my long suffering wife would understand.

Oh my god, if 40k were a cartoon that Great Unclean One would fit RIGHT in. X) And I love the Emperor here...he's a very multifaceted - perhaps even duplicitous? - character. So this kind of look actually has a really cool vibe. Almost feels comic-book-y in a way. Love these both. :D

Two absolutely awesome pieces of art! The Great Unclean One perfectly captures the essence of Nurgle as a (somewhat) benevolent God of Disease and Decay. The Emperor is stunning; a great portrayal of a very mercurial character that leans heavily on the appearance of royalty to get his way

Nurgle is also the god of life. His Blessing is eternal life of illness and suffering. But alive nonetheless. Its heavily implied that the chaos gods, are just corrupted versions of ancient "good" gods

Holy crap that Emperor drawing is absolutely perfect! I could even see it being official art and no one would bat an eye. The great unclean one also gets the vibe almost to perfection, loved the big goofy smile haha As a guy who enjoys writing, I find it uncanny how powerful narrated descriptions can be in order to transmit the characters and locations into the readers mind, specially when paired with such talented artists as you both. I think this video is a perfect example of it imo. Great job 👍

Absolutely love this result! I feel like you absolutely *nailed* the prompts. I'm intimately familiar with 40k, and like Dave said, I could show this to anyone I know who's into the setting and they'd go "yep, that's a Great Unclean One/ that's the Emperor," and I'd bet my biscuits there would be a ton of "such a cool interpretation!" as well. Stellar stuff!

The Emperor looks like he's been recently interred on his throne or halfway through coming back. I really agree with some others here that it would have been great to have the artists react to the official artwork or models to see how close they got.

I deliberately skipped the description to see if I could recognize the characters. I saw the smile and the tongue, and immediately thought "yeah that's Nurgle", aka the Great Unclean One. So, congratulations, that's a success!

It’s funny you should say you think the description of the Emperor on the Throne is him recharging, because it’s actually the opposite; in that scene he was sitting on the Throne to hold back a tide of daemons with the sheer force of his psychic might while also battling with the Chaos Gods metaphysically so if anything he was being drained, not recharged. 😉 Also, little nitpick for whoever chose the descriptions for you, but they gave you a description of the Emperor as he was during the Horus Heresy, which is 10,000 years before when 40k is set; at the time of the ‘present’ of 40k he’s a living corpse sitting on the Throne as Dave touched upon in his description. Would be interesting to see what you do with a description of 40k era Emperor in a future vid. 😉 Also, now you’ve done the Great Unclean One, you need to do the other Greater Daemons, the Bloodthirster, the Lord of Change and the Keeper of Secrets, to complete the set.

Thematically speaking thats probably one of the more accurate descriptions of the emperor. It hits all the themes about what the imperium paints him as while simultaneously showing the side of him who wished he was never diefied to begin with.

I absolutely love her space marine drawing vibes. The style is amazing!!

Like as soon as you seen someone sitting on a golden throne it's pretty obvious it's Big E no matter what the rest looks like. But a mid ranking Space Marine or a specific Commissar or Inquisitor would be more of a challenge.

100% would recognize both drawings instantly - you did a great job! Echoing what others have said - would love to see a reaction where you get to see the "real" images of those characters.

Both of them look really good. Emperor in particular looks really much like the actual character.

You know what is the best thing about the emperor! Is that every depiction of him is correct! He used his space magic to look exactly as an "emperor" would in your mind! if the artist met him he would look exactly like their drawings!

This reminded me of my sister summing up Warhammer 40k: The Emperor on the throne and his twin sons fighting each other in space

There's so so so many characters that you could do for this, and I want to see them all!

I really felt dave about to warhammersplain and looking at the camera, and can confirm we always go off the rail regarding lore

Please make a part 2! Warhammer has so many cool Characters that i would love to see. Here are some suggestions: - Tech Priest / Belisarius Cawl - The arch Traiter Horus - Commander Farsight - A Servitor - Any Slaanesh Deamon

I love them both. The Great Unclean one is just a happy vibe. The Emperor of Mankind one looks like him but instead of seeing an almost dead skeleton his psychic image has not even faded in the slightest.

The Emperor drawing was amazing. Better than a lot of the GW stuff.

Both of you did insanely good! I love that design for the great unclean one, it captures almost every trait core to those demons so perfectly. And the emperor piece is just immaculate, he's such a multifaceted character and drawing him mid shapeshift isn't just really cool but also captures that aspect of him excellently.

The most accurate 40k thing in this is the fan trying to explain the entire lore to women

These girls heads will explode when they see the 40k art. The Novels and Books are way better than the rest in it's categories. Going back to the art, it goes hand in hand with the 40k Universes Authors.

@marmite_popsicle for sure, it's been there since 86 or something and just recently, since everyone's tired of all the weakling protagonists in most "dark" stories, Now everyone is turning to something more hard-core and tough. You notice where before batman wouldn't hold a gun or kill anyone now DC is pushing to try to make him darker in the mainstream side of things. It's surely a competition, but 40k is a wrecking ball.

If the vague & rough overview of the 40K galaxy (which is all that you'd have gotten) lasted less than 2 days, you got off easy

Please do more and it would be a great idea to actually compare the drawings to the actual design of the characters

Warhammer 40k is a content gold mine. The universe is massive and beyond bizzare . I've been suggesting it to drawfee for years. And going for more cloth then armor for the emperor was a brave choice. I hate having to think about how cloth folds when drawing it. and there arent "like 75 books" There are over 600.
