‘We couldn’t survive without US help’, President Zelenskyy tells Channel 4 News (extended interview)

We spoke to Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy inside his heavily fortified Government offices - we asked him first, if his decision to stay in Ukraine after the invasion had convinced western leaders that he was someone they should invest in.

I think the best leaders are the ones who had leadership thrust upon them, rather than seeking it for the sake of power. I'm sure that ten years ago Zelensky could not have even imagined being in his position, even if you told him the future. When the invasion began he could have fled his country and comfortably lived out the rest of his days in exile, but he stayed and risked his life to protect the freedoms of his people. However the war turns out I think he will be remembered as an admirable example of how a democratic leader should act with integrity to serve their people.

He was thrown out of the country for spying but stupid enough to come back. Like, how important did he think he was to go back to a country under martial law and think nothing would happen to him when he was accused of spying?! So, he ended up in jail and because he'd been a heavy smoker all his life, finally pneumonia got him. And, oh, look, the country that you helped to destroy now can't help you because the hospitals and energy infrastructure are constantly being shelled. 1. don't spy and work for the enemy. 2. if the host country gives you a chance to get away Scott free by just throwing you out instead of in jail, stay out, don't come back. 3. Shouldn't have ruined his body by smoking and then be surprised to die from health complications in a war-torn country. Not even his sister in the US wanted anything to do with the guy. He never ver contacted the US embassy for help either. I'm guessing here, but he probably didn't want to go to the US because probably there was a court case of domestic violence or similar waiting for him. He was a shitty pick up artist after all, it's very common for these types to have cases like that at home in the US.

@kimwarburton8490 Well, thanks to Russia, the wokeness of America and West has been effectively stopped all over the world, let alone the global south. Russia is slowly dismantling the Americas' global hegemony, keeping NATO occupied in Ukraine. I dont know much about the economy, but i do know that commodity prices are just as same as before in Russia. Let's say that even if things get far worse for Russia or any country, why would they simply forgive their competitors and restore peace with them again? It was mostly about cooperation and peace with Europe before. Now, the discourse is all about war and conflict against the West, Putin being the most tolerant at this point. And Russian invasion, you say? It's far tamer compared to American invasions in the Middle East.

@@raxxla1949 Support has been anything but unlimited. Unlimited implies Ukraine has access to the entire NATO budget, in reality NATO has provided around 10% of it's annual peacetime budget. As for "the most advanced weapons", most of what has been sent to Ukraine saw action in the Gulf War and was due for decommission. Ukraine has received no fighter jets, no naval equipment and it wasn't until last year they even received any tanks (at which point they received a nominal number). They may be due to receive fighter jets later this year, but these will be F16's, certainly not the more advanced F35's. Throughout this whole war NATO has faced accusations of dragging it's heels on Ukraine, particularly in the early days it was very reluctant to provide anything but the most basic anti tank weapons etc.

You have shown great courage and leadership in the face of evil. If you are unsuccessful, It will not be your fault; it will be the fault of the nations that are legally obliged to support you. When your country gave up its nuclear Arsenal, it was on the condition that we would all come to your aid, should, such an occasion present itself. It is the fault of America and our Allied forces if you lose your country. You have nothing to be ashamed of, and you have everything to be proud of, and your people, and the people around the world who see the truth, are all proud of you for standing up to tyranny and evil.. I am trying to go to Ukraine as a volunteer, (from the US) and I am surprised how difficult it is. I have been trying to find an organization but I can't really seem to get in touch with anyone on a consistant basis. I am willing to work as a volunteer, even buy my own plane ticket, but I'm planning to stay 6 months or more, and so I need a place to sleep and transportation to get to the job and a million other things like--- what to bring or not bring/ where does my plane land and how to get into Ukraine/ Will And I talked to others online who had the same experience If someone could streamline this, it could give Ukraine THOUSANDS of volunteers. Anyone have a link?

As a volunteer for what? Fighting? They only take people with a lot of combat experience as they don't have the capacity to train newbies. What are your skills? Are you a medic, a firefighter, electrical engineer, drone specialist / drone flying teacher, tank mechanic, demining specialist,... anything they actually need? Do you speak at least rudimentary Ukrainian (or at least Russian)? Can you even read their alphabet? Because a war torn country doesn't have the resources to feed and house and babysit people who don't bring valuable skills to the table. The more secure western parts of the country have a housing crisis because so many people fled from the east, too. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but from your post it comes across as if you haven't really thought this through. If you don't speak the language and don't have any desperately needed skills, it's better if you organize a couple of fundraisers in your home country and send them the money. That may not sound as cool as "I went to volunteer in Ukraine", but will probably actually help them more. Good luck!

Don't waste your life on a manufactured war by the globalists. Instead ask yourself why there needs to be NATO expansion and who voted for it? Who voted for the WEF and WHO deciding policy around the world? How are Europeans better off paying higher prices for US oil/gas? Why does the US vote 'no' in UN security council resolutions against the majority of the world? If you want to volunteer, and make a difference, trying helping people in the US. If you want to have military action, just join the military or reservists in the US.

This is not just the President of Ukraine. For all Volodymyr Zelenskyy 's done : how he has led, sacrificed, and stood for from start till present, to lead his country through this awful war waged by a much bigger and more powerful country - this is a HERO, a statesman, a true leader, a sensitive gent, and a real man before us. He's not just talk. He gets things organised with his team and done to help and to protect, defend and lead. The difference between President Zelenskyy and Putin is the former will go down in history as a President who did not turn tail and hide / run when his country was attacked - he stood steadfast in his resolve and determination to stick with his people from principle - and to lead them in war strife; the latter on the other hand has tarnished his previously reputable name to be one of tyrant and murderer of hundreds of thousands of people on both ends - for what purpose exactly? One cares for his people and is earnest; the other is after all but a power-hungry bully. The premise from this particular journalist seems a little barbed from the way he's painted President Zelenskyy as an actor - but the President has been forthright, calm, earnest and open. Thank you Your Excellency President Zelenskyy for showing what a leader really does and is, in times of extreme strife and war. Thank you for showing to the world what loyalty to and compassion for your country and people are. Slava Ukraine and may Russia be led by a moderate but equally strong leader bent on championing the Russian people's real future - not belligerence, wars and past ideologies long gone - and working with other world leaders for equality, peace and mutual prosperity. The past remains there, in the past. There is no other way to peace for all, when we stay in the past.

I was watching Russian Foreign Minister Of UK the other day and he mentioned Ukraine was prepared to sign a peace deal in 2022 and Boris Johnson intervened, and he asked, where is Boris Johnson now? He’s totally out of the scene. 😂🤦‍♂️ Imagine taking someone’s word and then they completely BAILED OUT. 🤦‍♂️

If he pushed for peace, he would lose a lot of Ukranian territory (I guess close to 30 %). The Russians would seemingly accept the peace but they would just take time to regroup, gather more military resources and they would attack Ukraine again. When Hitler rose to power, other European leaders also tried to appease him and they were like, "alright, let's give him parts of Poland and the Czech Republic and he'll leave us alone" but see, it didn't work. A dictator's hunger cannot be satiated.
