promised support was held back by US republicans for nearly 3/4 of a year so eventually that shows when munitions run dry and it will take still some more time for the by now apporpriated support to reach the frontlines. Meanwhile russia adpated a war time economy and if the west does not account for that and therefor also keeps up support or rather increases that support, the war may get lost for Ukrain. Otherwise purely from production capabilities, the west is a deeper well, but to draw from it would also mean consequences for the populations in the west which of cause for a pampered populace may seem inconvenient. edit: grammar

The real news is: 47th mechanized brigade left its frontline positions because they werent rotated out for a year, Russians noticed the gaps on the frontline, and made a 6 km advance, capturing Ocheretine in a few hours, blocking any traffic towards the south. That made the 115th mechanized brigade's position untenable since they were surrounded, so they had to evacuate Berdichi. Ukraine has to retreat 10 kilometers towards the next potential natural barrier. North of that position in Krasnokhorivka two columns of tanks and troop carriers made a 4 km rush towards the town, and deployed assault squads on the southern outskirts, which almost instantly captured those positions. By seeing the success Russians sent a constant cycling of troop carriers and sent four tanks which rushed in the streets of the city and spotted the potential Ukrainian troop concentrations. Where they found some the troops were directed there, so they took 3/4 of the town by the end of the day.

The truth is that Mr Putin is not interested in liberating anyone in Ukraine, and he doesn't care how many people die. He just wants to be admired by millions of serfs as the next Tsar of all the Russias.

The implementation of a war of attrition against Russia has proven to be an ineffective strategy. Throughout history, numerous nations have attempted this approach, only to experience catastrophic failures.

@@asynchronicity Aye, perhaps the leadership back then didn't want to bleed out their good soldiers unlike Putin. Two different cultures and people as well though - definitely not a good idea to try and occupy Afghanistan. The US was successful in supporting a parallel Afghan society run by Afghans for 21 years, but as we unfortunately saw when the Roman Legions were unceremoniously called back in a disastrous move by Biden, the Taliban took over swiftly, conquering the corrupt Afghan army and propped up western led Afghan government in a matter of days.

Europe is stuck in this position because of a foreign policy led by the US arms industry, which NEEDED to continue making an enemy out of post-Soviet Russia. None of this would have happened if Ukraine had simply stayed neutral and refused to play that game.

@@paulert23 'Helping' Ukrainians destroy themselves has little support outside of the US / NATO political class. The fantasy of Russian expansion has no basis in reality. Russia is interested in finally ending its 2014-vintage war with Ukraine's CIA-installed government. Russia is also very interested in ensuring Ukrainian neutrality. But it has absolutely no interest - nor the material capability - to get involved in a wider war.

Russia has more casualties and running out of ammo.. most of their weapons are old soviet style and their military gains and missile attacks are all symbolic😂😂

Very interesting, if Ukraine have had enough men to fight. Maybe they wouldn't make new rules for all the Ukrainian men that are living abroad. On April 23, 2024 a new rule was put out on Ukrainian embassy website. Ukraine has stopped issuing new passports to some military-aged men living abroad as part of a bid to pressure them to return home to fight. The move is temporary and comes the day after the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry suspended consular services for men from 18 to 60 years old. Long queues formed at passport offices in European countries after Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba announced the measures. The limits come shortly after Ukraine adopted a new, stricter mobilization policy to shore up forces amid gains by Russia on the battlefield.

How about the destruction of Iraq, Afghanistan, Korea, Vietnam, Hungary (1956), Syria, Serbia and so on, most of the African countries, Sudan, Congo, Libya... The Ukrainians would have had the necessary arms in Novemember if the Republicans hadn't played politics with the aid package. It's hard to defend a position with no artillary. Ukraine also should have mobilized months ago.

Ukraine is not going to win in the mobilization aspect due to the fact that Russia has a population of about 144 million people while the population of Ukraine is about 38 million. In addition, many military age Ukrainians have fled the country.

I recalled that the defense minister of Ukraine was replaced. The motives were just that his staff did not believe of the Ukranian victory. However, I imagine this scenario. He wanted to retreat its forces near the capital to concentrate their defenses and to coordinate better the units, to which Zelinsky did not agree. Instead of studying the assessment, he replaced the minister of defense.

Dithered for several months!? The mobilization should have been started very early on and kept a steady pace moving conscripts into units *with* volunteers. Mixed together motivation can spread.

Oh man. When you see an ukrainian soldier wearing yellow armbands, that means he is a freshmeat, means he is less tha 3 month serving in the army. And I can tell you, I havent seen an Ukrainian trooper not wearing a yellow armband since the battle of Bakhmut. These are already untrained junkies, the professional Ukrainian military ceased to exist at year 1 of this war.

And for the 1st time I hear DW's tone is sobering up, hopefully they will start working for peace now rather than fueling war now that the prospect of sending their own kids to the meat grinder is growing.
