We Bought Used Bikes For Under $2000 | Which Was Best?
Спорт
If you were given $2,000 to buy any bike you want, what would you do? Here at GCN, we'd almost certainly go for a used bike.
Thanks to @buycycle Si, Alex, and special guest star from @gtn Mark Threlfall have done exactly that. Between them they've gone for a modern future-proof bike, a five year old superbike, and a time trial bike.
But most importantly, which is the best $2,000 used bike we could buy?

The blue Cannondale is not from 2019, it's from 2014! In 2019, the SuperSix had straight fork blades, that's why I looked up what year that frame colour is really from. Given it's a ten year old frame with 6800 Ultegra without the Ultegra crank set and not the high mod version of the frame, it's way overpriced even with the Enve wheels. For reference I had the exact same frame from 2015. I bought it new in January 2016 (in sale obviously) for 1900£. It had cheap Mavic wheels but an almost complete SRAM Red22 group set (Cannondale SI crank set and Force22 cassette). I loved that bike. But it had a total clearance of 29mm between the chain stays, so riding 23s with a measured width of 25mm, there was 2mm on each side between frame and tire. There was a lot of variance between frames in that regard looking at forum discussions from the time. A very nice bike, but not a superbike by any means. It's a ten year old mid range bike.

I recently picked up a used two-year-old gravel bike from my LBS. It has its share of paint dings; the previous owner obviously used it for purpose. It rides like a dream and is in good mechanical condition. Great investment for less than half the price of new.
When you are building a complete decent road bike for half of what DI--105 costs you have a massive problem with the bike industry.
Can't complain when you guys already made such videos for few hundred bucks as well. Great passion and cheers from India.
Awesome piece! I owned the Cannondale back in the day and now own a 2021 Trek SL 6 pro disk and love it. Not surprised it won by a mile. Live in Wichita Kansas and bought the bike new a year ago for $3600, the bike shop threw in a couple of carbon bottle cages and a garmin mount as a sweetener.

I mean not a pre-built bike. Ribble CGR carbon, Elite 35 deep gravel wheels. Specialized 45 mm tyres. Full 11sp GRX800 grupo. Restrap framebag. Shimano XTR spd pedals. PRO carbon bar, stem and bartape. Had no choice around covid first wave. Everything was sold out, had to build it myself… And ofcourse Fizik Argo gravel saddle.
Love the friendly competition and banter

Always fun filming with this lot 🙌
Really good fun! Second hand bikes and tech always super interesting for the general consumer
this is exactly what GCN needs to do more of. Top Gear meets bikes.
This was a feel good challenge. Do more of these.
For me the Trek looks the best. Matches the GCN styling too! Bang for buck is arguably the Cannodale though
I do love the banter.
I particularly like the TREK SL 6 because I purchased one in 2019. It has the Shimano R8000 group set. I've swapped the wheels for 50mm Mavic Elite and a 53-39 chain ring.
