I am so happy you guys are going to bring this gem back to the sturdy life it has lived. What a treasure! My heart breaks a little bit for the person who decided to let this go as surely there were blood, sweat, tears, hard work, and many good memories spent living in this house. I can't imagine how you swap out the floats from beneath it while the old ones are still in use, especially if the new ones are a different height...guess we won't have to wait too long to find out, and I am on the edge of my seat with anticipation.

💙💙 we hope to do its legacy justice! The man who owned it is in hospice, he’s just not in good health enough to make it out here anymore. Definitely sad. But the sweet part of the story is how he and Brandon have always had a special friendship, and he actually designated in his will that he wanted it to be sold to Brandon to fix up. So that means a lot, & again…we just hope we can do it justice! Swapping floats will definitely be interesting. We will get a little help for that part 😅 excited to share the process!

Swapping the floats: somehow get it to shallower water and prop it up for the seasonal drop in water level. Thwn just walk under it like an auto mechanic!

I bought my husband a Gibson Earl Scruggs banjo for Christmas one year. He's really good. Also, my ex! Another really good. Lol

I guess we make it work bc we got big goals! Each project is just a stepping stone towards our ultimate goal of saving enough $$ to sail around the world 🤩 I’m not sure we’d have the drive some days if it weren’t for us envisioning ourselves on some island in the caribbean hahah. KZread makes me wish I were young also so I could participate in living dreams instead of having to go to a place to work 40+ hours a week. My son is starting a family, and only has to go to the office two days a week, and works from home 3 days. On the other hand, this country is starting to crumble unless someone steps up to save it again, 🙄 so being old and having the Joneses to watch in retirement is great too... 😃

This will probably be a 3-4 month project but who knows! We aren’t going to rush as much on this one as we did our current house. Hope to sell by early next spring at the latest though. I knowwww, Iko’s reaction made my day haha. She’s the cutest. First or not, thanks for the sweet comment!!

I think this new project lacks curb appeal, but I an sure when you are done (with Mommy In-Laws help) that will be the biggest transformation of this property

According to the rules, yes! Structurally, I don’t think so. Our contractor friend said the drop ceiling joists are (somehow?) structural. When we go to tear out all the lauan I think we will know more!

Hmm hard to say because not all of them get posted online where we’d know. We probably see a dozen or so a year posted online. No doubt more are happening as word-of-mouth deals that we don’t hear about. There are only 20 cabins in our harbor and all the ones we have acquired were right here, but we aren’t particularly in-the-know about the other 445 properties throughout other harbors on the lake 🤔

I like the look of the new place but I am thinking and this is just an idea why not make it a really nice fisherman's cabin on the lake and then rent it out that way unless you going to sell it

Coming from a cabins in the woods...when you started taking the wall pannels down I was thinking for sure theres mice in there. Not thinking mice dont swim well. Lol

Hahah it is indeed possible, we found a couple dead mice in the walls of the 1st cabin we renovated! I think they scurry down the ropes that are attached to trees, probably when the ropes are above water in the wintertime. Anyways so far so good here, no mice yet! 🤞

I wish we would have done this on our house we live in! Not sure it would be to our benefit to do so for this particular one though, since we plan on selling it immediately. Folks tend to feel entitled to buying things for cheap if you can build them for cheap, but of course we will price it based on the fair market value, rather than on our investment in it haha. I really want to move to NC mountains and always wanted live by the water and this is best of both worlds... Any information in regards to housing on that lake I would have much gratitude! Unfortunately since no more floating cabins are allowed on this lake the only way to get one (or to build one) is to buy an existing one! I don’t know of any for sale right this second but they do come on the market periodically. There are a lot more of them over on Norris Lake in eastern TN if that’s an option for you. As far as property on land goes you’d be better off checking out other lakes, since this one is 92% surrounded by federal land. Lots of other gorgeous lakes in the mtns of NC that are residential on the surrounding land 😊

Just like normal houses, totally depends. size, location, condition (particularly of the floats), etc. for a fixer upper, could be less than $40k, could be more than $100k

Yeah!!!! New project! I can’t wait to follow along on the new adventure. And by the way…. I have a small getaway cabin that over looks a river about 30 miles from me. I’ve been remodeling it the last couple of years and couldn’t figure out a ladder system I liked to access my loft area…. until your last remodel. I am totally stealing your loft ladder idea. I love how you have made it a decorative piece/storage without making it “just a ladder”.
